22.01.2022 Good afternoon, This most likely goes without saying, but due to the recent announcement that we will be returning to a Stage 3 lockdown for 6 weeks as of 11.59pm tomorrow night, all current plans on returning to domestic basketball have been postponed. We will continue to update you on what our return to sport will look like as soon as we receive more information from DVBA and Basketball Victoria. ... Stay safe.
21.01.2022 Evening Phantoms, We've received some feedback recently that a number of families missed the announcement about how to sort out the fees from this season. From what we heard, this was due to people not having social media accounts and therefore missing the information on Facebook (which is perfectly understandable!) If you know someone who doesn't have the ability to check our Facebook page, we HIGHLY recommend you encourage them to download 'TeamApp'. It's where you can pay ...registration fees, find information about the club, secure club merchandise and best of all, any major announcements will be sent directly to your phone. You can download the app here: iPhone: https://tinyurl.com/y63edcpv Android: https://tinyurl.com/y5wtmslv Simply search for Yarrambat Phantoms and that's it! You can also visit us outside of the app at www.yarrambatphantoms.com.au Any questions, feel free to reach out. - AJ
20.01.2022 The announcement on Sunday 18 October by the Victorian Government has eased restrictions in several areas across Victoria. Unfortunately, due to basketball being classified as a contact sport (i.e. a sport that is unable to be played at a social distancing length of 1.5m between each participant) by the Victorian Government, basketball is subject to being part of the Last Step of the COVID Roadmap. Follow the link below for the full update from Basketball Victoria:

17.01.2022 Hi all, We've had some queries regarding the $100 payable to register for the Autumn 2021 season and we wanted to help clarify a few things: ---------------------------------------------- - Firstly, this fee is payable for all players, regardless whether you paid fees last year or not. If your fees for the 2020 season were paid in full, then no further fees are required once you have registered and paid the $100.... ---------------------------------------------- - We've also had queries regarding the $100 deduction from any refunds requested for those that may not want to play next year. For clarity if you paid full fees of $260 for the season (1st child) you will receive a $160 refund (less for 2nd and 3rd players in the same family as $100 will be deducted for all players). ---------------------------------------------- - You may be asking why this is the case. Whilst it does seem a long time ago, the Autumn 2020 season commenced in late January with five games played and 6 weeks of training conducted. For this to occur, the club incurred the costs for those 5 games including: - Basketball Victoria registration fees (not refunded to the club) - DVBA registration fees (not refunded to the club) - Game fees (not refunded to the club) - Training venue hire (not refunded to the club) All up, these costs equate to $100 per player. The club is simply allowing for these costs when working out the registration fee for the next season or refunds mentioned above. We believe this to be very fair for all. ---------------------------------------------- - For those that may have received a full refund earlier in the year, the club did this in absolute good faith for the individuals concerned that may have been suffering financial hardship - no questions asked. A very small number of families took this up and we do hope it helped in some way to get through such extraordinary times. In August, we also offered refunds with a $50 deduction only. This was also done in good faith to support families who may have been struggling at that time. This $50 deduction was based on the best information we had at the time regarding refunds etc. the club may receive. Again, a small number of families took up this option and again we hope it helped them get through. ---------------------------------------------- - The costs of the full or subsidised refunds will be absorbed by the club for now using historical funds available and will have to be recovered in the future through fundraising or otherwise to maintain a strong club into the future. The club is so very appreciative of the small number of families who donated their fees to help this cause, it absolutely makes a huge difference and we are so grateful. If you have any further queries please contact the Treasurer at [email protected]. Thank you. Yarrambat Phantoms Executive Team.

15.01.2022 Hello Phantoms families, We hope you are all keeping safe during this very challenging time. We are fielding a number of enquiries regarding what is happening with junior basketball for 2020 and thought we would try and update you as best we can.... Frustratingly, both Basketball Victoria and the Diamond Valley Basketball Association are yet to make any decisions regarding the future of junior basketball for the 2020 season. This continues to make it very difficult for our club to make its own decisions regarding fees paid and planning for future costs we may incur if games were to recommence in some form or another. With stage 4 restrictions due to end mid September and the anticipated phasing back of restrictions from then on, the executive is of the opinion that it is unlikely games will recommence this year. While this is a very disappointing situation we must be realistic about the situation. We would therefore like to offer a number of options for families in relation to fees paid for the 2020 season. ---------------- Option 1 (and the clubs most preferred): Fees rolled forward to the next season whenever that may be. Please be assured any fees paid will be credited against the next season. This will automatically occur unless you advise of one of the other options. ---------------- Option 2: Request a refund of fees. A deduction of $50 per player will be made to cover the cost of the games played earlier in the season and Basketball Victoria registration fees. Both BV and DVBA have confirmed they will not be refunding clubs for any of these fees and the club has also incurred training venue costs. All up this is over $20,000 and cannot be carried by the club. If you are requesting a refund please send your request to the treasurer at [email protected] and include all players names and bank account details for refunds to be made. Please allow up to 10 days for the refund to be made as these will be done in batches. ---------------- Option 3: Donate fees paid to the club. This would assist greatly in the significant increase on costs to the club when we do get back playing including: Cleaning costs for training venues, sanitisers, cleaning products etc. and help absorb some of the costs already paid this year. Please email me at [email protected] if this is your decision and thank you in advance! Thanks for your support and understanding. Please stay safe and keep positive about basketball coming back in 2021. Scott Buckland Treasurer Yarrambat Basketball Club

08.01.2022 Afternoon Phantoms, You may have seen some announcements from the state government around the changes to contact & non-contact sport today and we wanted to make sure this was clarified in relation to basketball. From 11:59pm on the 8th November, indoor community, non-contact sport for 18 years and under will resume. The definition of non-contact is "a sport capable of being done at a distance of 1.5 meters, with spectators limited to one parent, guardian or carer only." Shor...t of playing only zone defense and shooting 3-pointers, this means that basketball doesn't fit into this category and unfortunately won't see a restart on the 8th of November. There is a chance that outdoor sessions like training can resume and we will keep you up to date on this as we move forward. The current date for indoor contact sport to resume is still planned as the 28th of November and again, we will advise you of any announcements from either the club or the competition as the date moves closer. If you have any questions, please reach out. Stay strong!

03.01.2022 Afternoon Phantoms, The Victorian Governments announcement on Tuesday 30 June for particular postcodes to revert back to Stage 3 restrictions has an impact on domestic basketball in those areas. Fortunately this doesn't affect any of our postcodes and for us, we're still under full contact training and competition for both indoor and outdoor rules. We're presently still awaiting DVBA's decision on this. For those with children who play in the VJBL, at this stage due to the im...pacts of the lockdown zones, Basketball Victoria have decided that the VJBL season cannot commence from July 17 and aim to provide more certainty about the VJBL in the coming days. Thanks, have a great day.
