25.01.2022 Urine spraying in cats can be one of the most frustrating bad behaviours we see, but why do they do it? There's a lot of reasons, and it can vary from cat to cat. For some cats it could be caused by stress or anxiety, in others it could have a physical cause such as renal failure or UTIs. If you're concerned about your cats spraying, make an appointment to come and chat to us.

23.01.2022 Greyhound adoption is becoming more and more popular, and for good reasons. While they love a good zoom around the park, the rest of the time you'll find them on the couch or napping. They make great cuddle buddies, but maybe not perfect excersise partners. Do you have one of these laid back pups in your life?

22.01.2022 Trips to the vet are a source of anxiety for a lot of pets, but cats in particular tend to have a hard time. So how do you make the experience a little more pleasant for everyone? You can start by making the carrier a more inviting space. Leave the carrier out in the open a few days before your appointment so they can get used to it. Add a few treats for some extra pawsitive association. We even stock calming pheromone sprays if you're still having a bit of trouble!

22.01.2022 It's starting to get colder, and this can cause a lot of pain and discomfort for pets with arthritis, but do you know the signs your friend may be developing the condition? In dogs, they may be reluctant to get up in the mornings or limp after excercise, while in cats it might display as aggressiveness, decreased activity and a decreased willingness to jump and climb. Luckily, there are a lot of treatment options and ways to make your pet more comfortable, so why not come in and have a chat to us if you have any concerns?

21.01.2022 Do you have any rescue pets? Tell us about them!

17.01.2022 Snake season is well and truly upon us, which is a worrisome time for a lot of pet owners. If you suspect your pet has been bitten, call us immediately. Warning signs may include: excessive salivating, vomiting, weakness in the legs, lethargy and blood in their urine. Even if they appear to have recovered, it's still important they're treated as soon as possible.

13.01.2022 Sometimes we require a urine sample from your pet, so here's a few tips: -All samples need to be clean of contaminants, so make sure anything you're using for collection has been washed beforehand -For dogs, a short leash, an ice cream container and patience is what you need. When your dog squats or cocks a leg, use the container to catch the urine -For cats, it's possible to buy non absorbant litter, or for more problem cats and outdoor cats, leave them inside for a few hour...s and make an appointment with us and we can get a sample for you If you have any questions or difficulties, don't hesitate to get in touch!

11.01.2022 As the weather heats up, fleas start to become more of an issue. While we should be treating our pets for fleas all year round, now is a good time to start getting on top of things. There are a lot of different types of treatment, from spot ons to collars or tablets, some will only target adult fleas while others will attack the eggs. Come in and have a chat to us about what's best for your pet.

08.01.2022 Winter is a time we all start doing less and eating more, including our pets. A few extra treats, longer naps by the fire and all that extra down time can start to add up. Thankfully, there's a lot of different ways to approach this and we can help you by weighing your pet, reccommending specialized diet plans and setting up a sustainable plan for getting your pal down to a healthy weight.

07.01.2022 Here's one for the cow lovers! Did you know cows have best friends? A study in 2011 measured the heart rates when they were alone, with a cow they didn't know, and with a cow from their herd. It was found that cows tended to be calmer around their preferred partners, and became stressed when around strangers, and even moreso when alone! Have any farmers out there noticed their gals hanging out with their preferred pals?

07.01.2022 We'll be closed tomorrow for the public holiday! But our 24/7 emergency service will function as normal.

07.01.2022 So, cold weather means more time inside, which means more pets and cuddles, so here's a weird question for you: How do your pets ears look? Cuddle time is a great opportunity to check on the ear health of your cat or dog (or even bunny, guinea pig, etc.!). Are they scratching more than usual? Are their ears looking particularly waxy, or is there black or waxy discharge? Red scratches, a yeasty or strong, unpleasant smell or pain on touching are all signs something could be wrong. If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to get in touch!

06.01.2022 I'm sure we all know how uncomfortable and even painful torn nails can be. Dogs are no different, with torn nails often causing a lot of pain and discomfort, as well as bleeding. Though it can quickly turn serious, as the exposed quick, a bundle of nerves and blood vessels at the base of their claws, can cause significant pain and even infection if left untreated. If this happens to your dog, the best thing to do is wrap the paw in a towel and give us a call ASAP.

02.01.2022 Yarram Vet will be closed from Christmas Day, Friday 25th December and will reopen on Tuesday 29th December. We will be closed on New Year’s Day, Friday 1st January. Emergency services are available. Javid, Zareena & family, along with the staff at YVC wish you all a very Merry Christmas & a healthy happy New Year

01.01.2022 Indoor plants are all the rage at the moment, and the envy of many a social media scroller. You might be looking to get some yourself! But a lot of loved plants are toxic to our pets, so here's a few examples of some toxic plants and safe alternatives. If you get a new plant, always research it first to see if its toxic. If all else fails, fake plants are always an option!
