24.01.2022 And so we draw to the end of Term 2.....what a term it has been! There is some uncertainty around what restrictions may return, how COVID 19 may continue to affect our community, and just how we can keep those most vulnerable amongst us safe.... In light of that, all Term 3 yoga sessions will continue online. ... General yoga sessions on Tuesday evening (7.15pm) and Friday morning Restorative sessions (10.15am) will commence as 5 week courses on July 14th. All TSY sessions (Monday, Tuesday and Friday) will be offered online through the term. If you would like details of how to register for any of these Zoom sessions (or if you have any questions or comments) please don't hesitate to get in contact. Thank you for your ongoing support and your commitment to the practice (and more importantly to yourself!)

23.01.2022 Well......with the latest "Road Map" announcements here in Victoria it looks like our yoga practice together will stay online for a while yet! All Term 4 YRY sessions will continue via Zoom with details to follow shortly. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions, would like to check in on Term 4 details, or if you just need a little extra support right now......

23.01.2022 In response to survey feedback (thank you so much to those of you who responded!), Trauma Sensitive Yoga sessions, along with all other YRY yoga classes, will continue to be offered online as we begin Term 3. Details are below : please contact me for links to register for all or any of these Zoom courses.

22.01.2022 One of my favourite things about online yoga sessions has been meeting the various pets who join in when we are practicing! There is so much curiosity about their humans and the yoga.... Please feel free to share a photo of your yogi animal.....Maggie (and I) will be delighted!

20.01.2022 With permission, I wanted to share with you some reflections from one of the participants in our TSY program this year. I am so grateful to her for sharing these insights - her insights - and wisdom - her wisdom - with me, and for generously inviting me to share them with you. "I believe i have started to integrate the message of TSY internally.... That is * to create and trust a safe space * remember to breathe and ground yourself - this is where the best and most resourceful decisions are made and the space to allow to heal (breathe) * consistency in weekly sessions acts as proof that life goes on and we can always stop, and rest and restore * that "stretching" comes in all forms in life - such as tragic and sudden loss and daily stresses, but we can all stop and take note what is not serving us and what makes us uncomfortable vs what makes / puts us in painful situations. " Gabz Trauma sensitive yoga is different for every person and every experience is honoured and valuable. Sometimes the practice presents challenges that are painful or experiences that feel insurmountable. But the practice does, I think, offer an opportunity to heal. One way or another, and in a timeframe which is unique to each person who practices. It may provide an opportunity to complete those incomplete cycles of stress that trap us. To arrive here in the present. And to step, as quickly or as slowly as it takes, towards our power.

20.01.2022 Wishing you a peaceful Christmas, a new year full of hope and growth, and many moments of stillness amidst it all. I look forward to practising together in 2021

18.01.2022 Many of us are sitting with the news of further lockdown this evening - Stage 4 restrictions where life is almost certainly going to be filled with more challenges. At this time i want to remind you that you are NOT ALONE. I believe that every person is faced with challenges and struggles right now, some familiar and likely some brand new or unexpected. ... Go slowly. Remember to breathe. Reach out wherever and whenever you can. If you believe that your yoga can help you, roll out your mat. There is no "right" way to practice. Just see if you can gift yourself a moment in the here and now, the present. And then take the next breath. YRY sessions continue online. Please know that this is a safe space where you are ALWAYS welcome, just as you are, to practice in a way that feels useful to you. "This too shall pass".

17.01.2022 it was so great to be back online and practicing with the wonderful YRY community again last week..... it's not too late to jump on board! Just get in touch if you'd like to register for any courses or classes this term...... Go gently. Stay safe. Breathe.

15.01.2022 Many of us are in lockdown again..... Some feel anxious at the return to isolation. Some feel hopeful that this time we know what we're doing and we'll nail it. Some are grateful for more time to retreat. Some feel dread at being at home, no space from others in their house, and pressures of parenting, partnering, working. Some are fearful for their health, or for the health of someone they care about. Reach out, if and when you can, and find the support you need through th...is time. None of us really know what is going on! But we can help one another to weather the storm. All yoga sessions, general yoga and trauma sensitive yoga, will return next week. If your practice is a source of strength and comfort, please join us online. If connection with your fellow yogis is a way out of feeling alone, please join us online. If spending some time in a present moment mindful practice helps you take a break from the overwhelm, please join us online.

15.01.2022 The final Trauma Sensitive Yoga sessions for this term (and for the year!) will be running this week : Monday 1.45pm and Friday 12pm. I look forward to our practice together. If you are not already registered but would like to join, please just get in contact and I'll send the link to register. ... Stay tuned for 2021 dates and times......

13.01.2022 It is NAIDOC week, an opportunity for ALL of us to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia. This week is a great reminder to actively acknowledge the lands upon which we live, work, learn and play. Yarra Ranges Yoga studio is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people, in Monbulk. The name of this town derives from it's indigenous name Monbolac which means "hiding place, or sanctuary, in the hills". ... We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we meet and practice, and pay our respects to Indigenous Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal land. There is plenty to watch, read and get involved in for NAIDOC week. Perhaps you will find something to inspire you here: https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/naidoc-week-events Or perhaps you can organise something very special of your own.

12.01.2022 What an exciting publication - edited by the wonderful Jenn Turner who is a colleague, mentor and inspiration to me in the Trauma Sensitive Yoga space. "Each essay centers the voices, wisdom, and experiences of survivors and practitioners who work directly with trauma-sensitive embodiment therapies." This book comes not a moment too soon. ... I can't wait to read it! See more

12.01.2022 Term 4 YRY Online Yoga sessions begin next week! Monday 1.45pm TCTSY (Trauma Sensitive Yoga) Tuesday 7.15pm General Yoga Friday 10.15am Restorative Yoga... Please email [email protected] if you'd like further details a link to register for any of these courses!

10.01.2022 This is a wonderful conversation with Sonya Renee Taylor about her book "The Body Is Not an Apology"..... it is a great critique of systemic oppression, and human bodies as a site of that oppression. If you feel inclined to listen I'd love to hear what you think of this podcast. Dismantling the hierarchy of this system we swim in through Radical Self Love. Wow!!! How yoga can be a tool for social change....right there folks!! Our bodies are NOT an apology, nor are they the enemy. Imagine if they were the greatest resource we have!!

07.01.2022 Another 5 week Friday Trauma Sensitive Yoga course begins this week..... Not too late to register if you, or someone you know, could benefit from the practice at this time https://us02web.zoom.us//tZIlcu2vrDMvEtagIZ8Gn8MjC1FNdKaC7 After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting

06.01.2022 These are unprecedented times. It is almost impossible not to feel the weight of isolation, the unknowing, the sense of holding it all together as the ship goes down. This week has been a particularly difficult one - for me personally, and for so many people I have spoken with. Who knows why this week, of all the weeks? But if you've felt it too, please know that you are not alone. Even more importantly perhaps, please know that you DO have all the strength within that you r...equire. When you feel like retreating and disconnecting and curling up with eyes closed tight, when you feel like shouting and raging and stomping your feet, when you feel like crying.....it is OK. This too shall pass. Know this : your yoga will wait for you, and will be available for you whenever you choose to meet it. Your yoga practice doesn't judge or cringe or turn away. Your yoga practice patiently offers you an opportunity - whenever you feel it might be useful - to be here and now, nothing more than the present moment to respond to, meeting your body exactly where it is today. Go gently. Reach out. Or reach in. But know that the sun will rise again tomorrow, on a new day.

04.01.2022 Chai time while working. That makes me smile. What are you doing to nourish your soul in 2021? See you soon for some yoga

03.01.2022 Go gently. Very very gently.

01.01.2022 The soup we are swimming in feels unknowable right now, and it can be difficult to stay steady and grounded in that uncertainty. This is an invitation to recognise the impact of this and mindfully take time to look after YOU. Is there some small thing you can commit to every single day to find a steadiness within the storm?
