25.01.2022 Each week we would love the community to get to know our local stall holders more intimately and know their history and how they come to arrive at The Valley Market each week selling their sensational produce from behind a simple trestle table! There is plenty more to it and to these incredible people! Check out the story of Silvertine Farm below! Make sure you come down to The Valley Market from 3-5pm tomorrow Friday 13th Nov. at Yarra Valley ECOSS-711 Old Warburton Rd Wesbu...rn, to say hi to them and grab some of this goodness. You won't want to miss out on what they have on offer this week! Since Silvertine Farm instigated the creation of what is now 'The Valley Market' they are a perfect place to start. This market began back in March 2020, directly following the end of the Warburton Summer Produce Market and the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown time. Silvertine Farm started back in August 2016 when Tobias wanted to begin a small market garden and Josh said "I"ll do that with you". YV ECOSS became the site of their farm which has been a great move considering all that has come from this place. These passionate men started with an old tractor and a rusty single tine ripper on its back in order to prepare the soil of their first 20 hand dug beds! After running it through the soil they were surprised to see it emerge from the earth all shiny and silver once again - hence the name Silvertine Farm was born. Within a short 4 years they have expanded to a massive 300 beds. They also have another farm nearby the river which has given them flexibility for their system. To manage all of this, Tobias and Josh now also have the great help of Ishaa and Josh's Dad (Allan). They grow a big range of seasonal veggies using organic / biodynamic methods, along with other small scale market garden techniques. They are particularly interested in disturbing the soil less and using more mulches and compost to grow this amazing produce. Tobias and Josh are so grateful to have so many people in the community supporting them through buying vegetables and say a HUGE THANKS to all you out there! They see it as an honour to have the role of being local farmers in this community. They simply LOVE growing vegetables, so there's plenty more to come.

23.01.2022 Our feature story for The Valley Twilight Market this week is a super special one so do check it out. We are getting the personal story behind 'The Valley Market' from Leanne Arvanitakis-Hall, the lady who brings events and markets in our community into thriving successes and has kept us all safe and nourished throughout the turbulence of 2020! We are so grateful for ALL she continues to do. Here you go....... It was Friday the 13th of March 2020 at the Warburton Summer Produ...ce Market when it felt like everything just started crashing down around me. I was running the market and there was a big storm coming in. Marquees were blowing over and we were trying to get everything covered before the rain hit. Chelsea was calling me to say we need to decide whether to cancel Ecotopia, the news came out that the River Folk Festival was cancelled that night, and I watched a whole stream of Festivals, Events and Gigs all cancel indefinitely. I literally ended up in tears. It was the last Summer Produce Market for 2020. People wanted to know where to buy their produce now The WSPM had finished... so, the following week Silvertine BD Farm started selling produce from their Market gate at ECOSS. It all happened organically. A few other stalls asked if they could come along, and from there the seeds of The Valley Market were born. I then started to come along each Friday to support the stallholders to comply to Covid Restrictions, putting out hand sanitiser and marking out social distancing on the ground. (I became known as the social distancing police:) Simultaneously there was a global panic buying frenzy! The Market became very popular as the need to support local became more and more evident. The toilet paper isles were bare, and the shelves were basically empty. It felt more important than ever to support our local food producers and businesses. It was an ideal time to focus on localising our economy. The Market has been a lifeline for our community during this time of isolation, for so many it was the highlight of their week. As restrictions tightened it was the one place people could go out and do their shopping in a safe open air environment. As the Event Coordinator at ECOSS and The Warburton Summer Produce Market Coordinator, it worked perfectly to marry the two. Hence The Valley Market at ECOSS was born. The Valley Market has successfully run weekly at ECOSS, and in addition we will run a monthly 'The Valley Market Warburton' instead of the Warburton Summer Produce Market. As things open up and we go back to our busy lives, I hope the community continue to support our local food producers. It feels so important for so many reasons. I am really looking forward to 'The Valley Twilight Market' this Friday 3.30pm-8pm where we will can now be a little more relaxed, hang out in a socially distant safe way & once again have live entertainment with 40 fantastic stalls! 14.01.2022 Today is World Environment Day, celebrated every year on the 5th June since 1974. This year's theme is REIMAGINE. RECREATE. RESTORE. Engaging governments, businesses and citizens in an effort to address pressing environmental issues.... For too long, we have been exploiting and destroying our planet’s ecosystems. Every three seconds, the world loses enough forest to cover a football pitch and over the last century we have destroyed half of our wetlands. As much as 50% of our coral reefs have already been lost and up to 90% of coral reefs could be lost by 2050, even if global warming is limited to an increase of 1.5C. Ecosystem restoration means preventing, halting and reversing this damage to go from exploiting nature to healing it. This World Environment Day will kick off the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of mountains to the depth of the sea. Only with healthy ecosystems can we enhance people’s livelihoods, counteract climate change and stop the collapse of biodiversity. This World Environment Day, join #GenerationRestoration to revive and protect our ecosystems. ECOSS endorses Yarra Rangers Council Climate Emergency Declaration. We also have another very warming feature story for you this week, from one of our cherished local women of the valley, Mim Morley. Fortunately we are able to welcome back all of our regular stallholders this week so you can visit Mim with all of he...r gorgeous creations. Mim has been making and selling crochet hats for over 20 years now and to accompany her hats she also sells a range of Eco-Friendly products, all of which just happened to be birthed due to Covid lockdown in 2020. Even though Mim doesn’t have an official business name she is currently playing with the name Bee Eco Products. Mim is the main face at her market stall but sometimes her lovely daughter helps her run the bigger events and markets she attends at times. Mims passion for her Eco range comes for a need to share this knowledge with the Community. Her belief that the Earth so badly needs our love & devotion lead Mim and her daughter to start making Masks for their friends, family and neighbours. This quickly grew to wholesaling to seven different outlets, which further led to sourcing some great Eco-Friendly items to add to her table of goodies. These are some of the treasures you will find when you visit Mim’s stall her wide variety of handmade crochet hats for all sizes, blankets and various other items, as well as her more recent additions in the Eco-Friendly range like; Shampoo Bars , Bamboo Toothbrushes, Bamboo Bottle Cleaners, Biodegradable Tooth Floss, metal lunch boxes & water bottles and her newest products for this week are Bamboo Bandaids, Baby Toothbrushes, Shaving Soap, reusable Bamboo Towels and washing up pads. Mim deeply loves serving the community and it brings her great joy to belong and feel so many beautiful connections. She loves providing warm heads for little bubs and folks of all ages. SOMETHING SUPER SPECIAL - this week Mim will be giving away a pen made from paper with every purchase from her stall, so come and see her stock up on some of these amazing products!
