23.01.2022 Those who come to see me in clinic know that I talk a lot about qi. Qi, prana, life force different terms describing the same thing. But what actually is this qi, and where do we get it from? If we had no life force nothing that animates us would we be here? Qi is an invisible substance that animates all life through the eternal dance of the two polarities of yin and yang. We feel its movement through a wave sensation of warmth or heat, buzzing or tingling, rather tha...n a pulse. I have recently learned that it can also feel like a sting at a point. Qi flow is like water: unobstructed flow through the body creates health, and blockage and stagnation lead to problems. That is when we go to see a practitioner who can help return our qi to flow as Nature intended. It might be worth noting that the balance we all strive for is a dynamic dance between those two forces, and that the only times they are truly in balance is at birth and at death. So where does this qi come from? There is only one qi, but it comes from different sources. Our initial qi we inherit from our parents. The quality of that is very much dependent on the level of health of both at the time of our conception, and then specifically the health of the mother throughout her pregnancy. We also draw external qi in from our environment through the act of breathing and absorbing qi from sunlight. Since qi is present in all life it makes sense that we breathe the best qi when we are out in Nature somewhere. It is no surprise then that approaches like yoga, tai chi, meditation and qi gong focus on breathing techniques to help us boost our life force. I used to have a colleague who didnt go to lunch but went to make some qi. Yet another source of qi is in the food we consume. The more in harmony with Nature our food is grown and produced, the better its nutritional qualities and its qi. Puts a slightly different slant on the old May the Force be with you, doesnt it.

18.01.2022 Hello everyone How are you all coping with the current restrictions? I hope you have all been able to find your very own personal and meaningful strategies to navigate through this unprecedented upheaval. Here are some of mine:... - Change is the only constant in life. Every energy will start to change into its opposite once it has reached its peak and passed the sacred pause between the changeover. - Finding things, ideas, flowers, landscapes, anything of beauty helps me hold the light. Finding or rediscovering a hobby keeps us occupied. Occupied, not busy. Busy is one way to avoid engaging with ourselves. - Breathing deeply is important as oxygen is involved in driving our bodily functions and, I speculate, impacts on our emotions and mental wellbeing. Superficial and shallow breathing increases the stress response and impacts on feelings of anxiety and depression. - I meditate every day, meaning I take the time to sit somewhere quietly and simply let my thoughts come and go. I don't suppress them, just let them flow. If you live in the suburbs and experience distractions, it might be really helpful to imagine yourself sitting at a beach, or in the forest, or by a river, or anywhere in Nature that appeals to you. Science tells us that the brain doesn't differentiate between fake and real. So use your mind to find your favourite spot and simply be. If you have pets they will likely join you. - My telly isn't working, and I stay away from anything that could even be potentially divisive or polarising. Social media can be very draining, so it is helpful to be aware of how what I engage with, if I do, makes me feel. If it pulls me down, I withdraw. Or stay away altogether to preserve my energy. We are in the 4th week of stage 4 lockdown. If there is anything you feel I can help you with please get in touch. Eastern approaches to health and wellbeing tell us that these emotions affect our kidneys and with that our life force (energy levels) and our lower back. Let's support our kidney universe. We can do so with warmth, warming foods and also ... ... ... working with our ears. Ears like teeth are ruled by kidney energy, and we can stimulate kidney energy by tapping our ears.... To do so fold your outer ear over towards your face so that it cups the ear canal. See whether you can keep it in place with your thumb, index and ring fingers. Then use your middle finger to tap gently a few times. I tap 8 x 2 = 16 times as 8 is considered a lucky number in the East. Observe warmth slowly spreading through your lower back. I have also found this approach helpful for dispersing ear wax buildup. Or if you prefer to come and see me in clinic, I am available on Wednesdays from 2 to 7.

Whether we turn face coverings into fashion statements is completely up to inclination, creativity, time and whether or not we have a (working) sewing machine. 15.01.2022 Are we "conscious" or "aware"? Or both? There is a profound difference between "consciousness" and "awareness" according to my Tibetan master healer mentor who defined "consciousness" as knowing to have a feeling (let's take the example of a breeze. If we weren't conscious we wouldn't know there is a breeze);... "awareness" as the ability to identify this feeling (in our example knowing the direction the breeze comes from); "focus" then as understanding the reason for the feeling (as in what the breeze is, how it feels - warm or cold etc., how it is scented, when it occurs). Food for thought to keep us engaged in matters other than what currently dominates the headlines.

13.01.2022 Your personality is made up of how you think, act, and feel, creating your personal reality. In order to create a new reality, you must change your personality.... To transform from the old self to a new self, requires us to become conscious of all our unconscious thoughts, behaviors, and emotional reactions that weve been conditioned into; this the first initiation to change. I have a simple exercise that I often do when I am struggling. I write down a few thoughts, behaviors, or emotions I want to change. In my meditation, I review and memorize each one until I become fully conscious of them. Now, I am able to take note of how I am thinking, acting, and feeling about those negative thoughts and behaviors that keep me in the same personality. Next, I write down a few thoughts, behaviors, or emotions I want to practice becoming. In my meditation, I review them with firm intention and attention. I mentally rehearse how I am going to act in different situations in my life, so I can align my behaviors to those intentions. Finally, I practice opening my heart until I can bring up those feelings on command. Throughout the day, via awareness and repetition, I fire and wire these new thoughts and behaviors into the fabric of my nervous system, conditioning my body into a new future. The more I practice, the more I systematically install new circuitry into my brain, while chemically and genetically conditioning my body to become that new personality. Now, the new thought in my head says, I can rather than I cant. As you rehearse these new ways of being with your children, work, relationships, food intake, they become an automatic neurological network creating a new level of mind. Youre priming your brain to a new future. These actions change your bodys biology. Why? Because the environment signals the gene, so if an experience in your environment creates an emotion, you are signaling new genes ahead of the environment. Your body does not know the difference between emotions created in real life from those created mentally. Proteins, made by genes, are responsible for the structure and function of the body, and the expression of proteins is the expression of lifeyou are becoming your future. By doing this properly, you begin to think, act, and feel differently; you are connecting to a new personal reality. Dont wait for a person or event to take away feelings of emptiness. Instead, begin to experience the positive emotions of your future in the present moment.

07.01.2022 This is important ... quantum science tells us that what we focus on we enhance and that our thoughts create our reality ... as above so below ... as within so without. It is all a matter of perspective, and of Energy. I am reading a book on Oriental diagnosis at the moment that encourages the student to "look larger", to "see the light in every dark". This is traditionally a very Eastern approach, yet imagine if everyone thought and lived like that ... without light we woul...dn't have dark, without weeds we wouldn't know the beauty of a rose, without cold we wouldn't know warmth ... and ultimately: without opposites we wouldn't have choice. A-ha? Both opposites are eternally present as long as duality lasts. In times like this it is vital that we find that positive in the overwhelming negative. We may not be able to avoid what life is throwing at us, but we have the power to choose how to interact with it, and what we want to focus on and perpetuate. So where do we want to be? What do we want to feed and see grow? How can we change to make a difference? Let's dare to magine ... visualise ... . Staying at home in practical terms may mean we finally finish painting that ceiling that has been waiting for two years. Or spend more time basking in the love of our pets ... they have come to us for a reason, and their love and support is endless. Let's engage with them, they are great healers. Staying at home may bring the philosopher out in us. Or we may begin to look at how we can change our lifestyles to better adapt to changing circumstances. The possibilities are endless. 01.01.2022 Good news on the horizon - step 1 for people on endorsed care plans (as in endorsed by a medical professional) According to a letter dated September 17 by the Victorian Chief Allied Health Officer to the allied health sector and professional associations, from September 28 people on endorsed care plans (as in endorsed by a medical professional) will be able to see "other" healthcare providers like me only on referral by a medical professional and only to "prevent a significan...t deterioration in functional independence resulting in an escalation of care needs (such as increased frequency in treatment, significant increase in pain, specialist input, or substantial increase in recovery time as a result of delayed care) ...". This was the ruling for AHPRA-registered providers such as osteos, chiropractors, physios and acupuncturists throughout the stage 4 weeks. AHPRA is the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Authority. Step 2 - Assuming that metro Melbourne will reach the threshold for step 3 restrictions around October 26. as modelling currently suggests, people will from then on in be able to again see me, or their primary health care provider, for all health care needs.
