25.01.2022 Gotta give this a go the next time that I have the camp oven hot...

22.01.2022 Easters coming.... Actually its still a long ways away, however weve only 2 vans unbooked for the Easter long weekend. If you planning that chocolate fuelled getaway then youll need to get in contact soon to avoid disappointment.

21.01.2022 The most common question that we get from people with large cars and utes is "Do I need to use tow mirrors?" The below is a quote from a recent article that talks about roadside safety inspections.... "If tow mirrors arent fitted, then during an inspection we will open your two front windows and measure to the outside of both side mirrors, and then we measure at the widest point of the trailer, and as long as the measurement at the mirrors is greater than the widest point of... the trailer, youre compliant." Full details can be found here.... https://www.gorv.com.au/3381-2/

21.01.2022 Woke up to the wilds of Melbournes winter snap this morning to receive a photo of my Freedom enjoying the wonderful weather in Mackay. Definitely know where I would rather be. https://yarravalleyvans.com.au/2019/08/08/wish-i-was-there/

21.01.2022 Set up our caravan at Pine Hill Caravan Park in Lilydale. A home away for home for some fruit pickers for a few weeks.

20.01.2022 Woke up to the wilds of Melbourne's winter snap this morning to receive a photo of my Freedom enjoying the wonderful weather in Mackay. Definitely know where I would rather be. https://yarravalleyvans.com.au/2019/08/08/wish-i-was-there/

20.01.2022 Last weekend was the first running of the Melbourne City Race, which was an orienteering course taking in the highlights of the Melbourne CBD & Docklands areas. An excellent day by all measures. The highlight for me was running down Southbank and leaving a wake of confused tourists behind me. How does this relate to caravan hire you ask? Well YVV are proud to be a sponsor of the event by donating the Most Improved Junior Awards. Congratulations to Joel and Lydia!

20.01.2022 Welcome to the newest on our fleet - a new little swift. Brought her back from Sydney this week. Looking for a name for her (just not Taylor!)

20.01.2022 Everyone should be aware by now that if a emergency vehicle has its lights flashing then the speed limit is reduced to 40km/h. Youre probably not aware that this is 25km/h if you are in SA. Make sure that you do your research before you travel as even though we live in one big country, laws vary from state to state. Our state pollies have to do something to pass their time, I guess it might as well be making up laws that are almost but not exactly like those of their neighbors. https://au.news.yahoo.com//victoria-and-western-australia/

18.01.2022 Its not often when work, sport, the kids sport and a chance to get away from it all, all come together. Recently we were lucky enough to be asked to provide support in the form of infrastructure and overnight security for the Victorian Orienteering 3-day weekend at Creswick. Not only did we get to run some great courses but we also had some great nights free camping and swapping tall tales around the campfire. Needless to say, far too many mashmallows were eaten by all! https://yarravalleyvans.com.au//06/27/when-the-planets-al/

18.01.2022 Camping at Dromkeen after Orienteering Victoria Sprint into Spring Race 3. Wonderful location, wonderful hosts, great cafe. Found this site through Youcamp.

18.01.2022 Living the dream... Weekend away with the kids at BIG4 Bendigo Park Lane Holiday Park. Nothing beats bacon, eggs and fried bread on the weber!

16.01.2022 I cant stress how useful WikiCamps is when it comes to planning your next trip. After enduring holiday hell at our last caravan park, where we were cheek to cheek with what seemed a thousand other caravans, weve moved on and found the gem that is the Eden Valley Oval / Camping Ground. Our nearest neighbour is about 20m away. We have all the facilities of a normal park, all for the princely sum of $16. Living the dream... Dont want to head home.

16.01.2022 Winter, Caravanning and Victoria- these three dont typically come to mind when thinking about what to do in the winter, and especially the school holidays. With sub zero nights and wet days forecast, we wondered if we were crazy to go caravanning? With no plans as we drove out of our driveway, we headed north, but not to the warm weather. Our first stop - Glenrowan. Despite the cold and the wet we stayed warm and dry by opting for a powered site at Glenrowan Tourist and Cara...van Park. With powered sites only $28/night and relaxed departure times, it was the perfect location from which to explore the area. The facilities were clean and the owners very friendly. While the rain meant no bike riding and it was too cold to go swimming, the games room with the table tennis and air hockey table was a hit with our kids. Did the wet and cold weather put a dampener on site-seeing? Not at all, there is still so much that you can do even in the wet weather. If Ned Kelly and gold mining history are not your thing, you could easily fill your day with wine, beer, cider, cordial, cheese and honey tasting. The verdict..... Winter holidays in a caravan in Victoria - dont let the weather put you off. Everything was open, but no crowds or queues meant the locals had the time to chat.

15.01.2022 Saying farewell to our Starcraft Sadly our Starcraft left our place for the last time today. She was towed away after being declared unrepairable due to smoke damage from Christmas fires. Thankfully the family that had her on their holidays are safe.... Onwards and upwards, watch this space later in the year for a new van.

13.01.2022 We recently had cause to stay at the BIG4 Bendigo Park Lane Holiday Park and I must say its a place we will definitely be returning to. On top of the regular stuff that you expect from a modern park, there is a huge activity centre that the kids get free access to. Even better, despite it being the middle of winter, the outdoor spa was open and heated. A welcome find after a long cold Orienteering run!

12.01.2022 {Ripper advice} Have you ever been faced with this? I came across a black cow on a dark night...everything in my body told me to panic and swerve...instead, I d...id exactly what this photo says!! My headlights gently nudged the cow as I had a mini heart attack and I didnt roll or wrap my car around a tree off the side of the road...PHEW!! #safety #roadsafety #sorryroo See more

12.01.2022 Some great tips from the guys and gals at Hema. The only thing that I would add is to make sure that all your electrics are gremlin free, especially your trailer connection. Many people dont tow often and their trailer connections get neglected and full of rubbish and corrosion. Having a good connection the trailer is essential for safe towing, especially when using electric brakes.

11.01.2022 Cant say that I agree with this approach, seems to be a bit of a coffer filler as opposed to any real desire to stop the spread of fruit fly. Regardless... The SA government have done away with the free amnesty at the quarantine station at Yamba. If you do not dispose of your fruit & veg BEFORE you get to the station you will be now fined.

10.01.2022 Welcome to the newest addition to our van family - Freedom This van is the best of both worlds. All the Freedom of a caravan with next to no set up yet is light and short to tow like a camper trailer. If you are just looking for holiday away from it all with no hassle - then this is the caravan. With a double bed and set of bunks it makes a great family getaway. ... And did we mention huge amounts of easily accessible storage!

10.01.2022 It's not often when work, sport, the kid's sport and a chance to get away from it all, all come together. 09.01.2022 We get a lot of people who are new to caravanning and are very nervous about their first outing. For those of you who fall into this category, have a read of the stories posted on the CIL website (http://www.cilinsurance.com.au//cils-funniest-caravanning-) and rest assured that even the "seasoned professionals" can still make mistakes! :-)

09.01.2022 Caravan parks are fantastic places but at times they can also be crowded and expensive. Most people dont realise that there are a number of other alternative places to camp a night or two, from bush camps to show grounds to local parks to the back yard of the local pub. Some are free to stay at, some ask for a donation, at some you are encouraged to buy a meal. Our number 1 tip to anyone travelling this great country of ours is to get a copy of WikiCamps for your smartphone or tablet. This app will show you all the places that you can stop and camp Australia wide, give you an insight to other travellers thoughts on each and an indication of price.

09.01.2022 Travelling with kids can be a challenge. Some great tips from the guys and gals at Hema on how relax and get away from it all with the tribe in tow.

08.01.2022 What did you get up to on the long weekend? Our family took a road trip to Wagga with our Jayco Expanda Outback 14.44 and stayed at the BIG4 Wagga Wagga Holiday Park. Why? Well like the majority of the people in this caravan park over the weekend we were here for one of many local events.... As a family when we go away with a van we have 2 sorts of holidays, the exploring holidays where we go to out of the way places and the short breaks where we are catching up with friends and/or going to an event. This weekend fell into the latter and this is where we find that caravan parks tick all the boxes. Wagga Big 4 is a fairly typical Big 4, although a little more basic than others, with only a pool and playground. It was however very clean with very spacious camp sites and a good camp kitchen. Loved the patio heater so the adults were able to sit and wind down after a busy day in comfort, while all the children played an assortment of games on the surrounding large grassed area. What I love about caravan parks is that when you are going to an event like we were (2017 Australian 3 Days Orienteering, Wagga Wagga) everyone can have their own space, can come and go as they want but there is also the option to get together in the large well equipped communal areas. The children have lots of space to play in a safe environment and burn off some of their endless energy and make new friends while they are at it.

08.01.2022 #1 thing to take on your next winter caravanning trip.... a hot water bottle. Nothing beats climbing into a toasty warm bed when its cold wet and windy outside.

08.01.2022 Heres a useful site for all of you with kids. In particular check out the caravan parks section for a list of parks that will allow kids to stay free (membership required). http://www.travellingaustraliawithkids.com

08.01.2022 Currently at Berri Riverside Holiday Park for the orienteering nationals. Must say that despite the park being fully booked there is a surprising amount of privacy here due to the size of the sites. And best of all... They have a on premise coffee shop! Definately no hesitation in recommending that you stop here it you happen to be passing through this way.

06.01.2022 Welcome to the latest van on our fleet. We picked up our brand new Jayco 17.58-1 today. This van is just so easy! Want to go camping but dont want all the hassle of remembering to pack everything or spending ages setting up? Then this van is for you. Set up simple, park up, unhitch, drop the jacks, pop up the roof and youre done! No beds to fold out, no tent to set up, youll be drinking that beverage of choice whilst youre friends are still banging in tent pegs.... The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need so you just need to pop your food in the fridge and cupboards, your clothes in the wardrobe. The biggest challenge will be which of the large numbers of cupboards to choose from. Not to mention the absolutely huge storage area under the main bed. We have already found that 3 children can hide in here! Check out our website for more details and availability. http://yarravalleyvans.com.au

06.01.2022 Prepping for that big Christmas getaway? The folks over at Australia On Track have a great article about storing meat safely for long periods when camping. http://australiaontrack.com.au//camping-with-food-traveli/

05.01.2022 Spring is here, the sun is shining, out with the old in with the new. Just in time for the warmer weather, we have replaced our Jayco Expanda 16.49-4 with a much newer one. Just like the old one our new 16.49-4 sleeps 6 in comfort, without even having to put the main table down. During the day there are 2 sitting areas, giving the kids room to play a board game and the adults space for a civilized, well-earned coffee. In addition, the new van comes with an upgraded & larger... fridge, roof top air conditioning so you have more storage, TV with DVD player & stereo system. This is glamping at its best. This weekend I will be setting up the interior ready for its first adventure. I have my list of essentials, plus a couple of little extras to make everyones holidays just that bit easier. What are your must haves for a great camping holiday?

03.01.2022 Anyone looking for cheap caravan hire over the Easter school holidays? Weve got a crazy deal on our Starcraft van, hire for 18 days for only $1,200! (conditions apply) The only catch is that the hire period must cover from 7th April to 23rd April.

02.01.2022 A must place to visit for our family when we are heading SA way is the Mount Bryan Hotel. In fact, if you ask our kids where they want to go for a caravanning holiday, theres an even chance that they will both shout "Mount Bryan" Across from the hotel is a huge well maintained grassed area, kids playground and public toilet block. This is all built on and around an old railway siding. The kids love it as they can ride their bikes, kick a ball around or play on the equipm...ent as they choose. We like it as it is a nice quiet spot to stay, there is a pub selling excellent food just across the road and there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area, just ask Simon or Kym at the pub for tips. And to top this all off, the camping is free! Well happily stay a couple of nights here just to recharge our batteries before pushing on to see more of this great country of ours.

02.01.2022 Watch this space. Hopefully our new baby will be ready for pick up when we get back from our current trip....

01.01.2022 Just did a pop quiz with our kids and asked them 4 questions. 1. What is the best thing about a caravan holiday? 2. What is the worst thing about a caravan holiday? 3. What is the best place that weve been to?... 4. What do you do on long car trips? Number 1 sons answers were ... Seeing new places, not being at home, Maralinga Tours & read. You can tell by the answers to the first 2 questions that he already has a complex personality! :-) Our little princess responses were ... Seeing new places, missing out on gymnastics, Dalhousie Springs, reading, sleeping and drawing.
