24.01.2022 The No Paid Parking Group do not support violence under any circumstance; there can be no excuses or justifications for violence. The individual charged by the police is not, and was not, a member of the No Paid Parking Group nor a trader in Yarraville. Inadvertent comparisons made by one of our members are regretted, and are completely withdrawn.... We commit to working with Council to resolve this matter to the satisfaction of the traders and residents. This would be made easier if there was a consistent, transparent approach and rationale from Councillors, opening all evidence to public scrutiny. We invite Council to engage in meaningful dialogue; dialogue that seeks a solution, while being accepting of the different perspectives on this matter. We will defend and reserve the right of people to stand up for their rights, in a democratic way, using every skill and political avenue they have to overturn the paid parking decision
23.01.2022 Today my call was returned respectfully by Mr. Foti Beratis from the MCC as he promised. He advised me that he passed on my concerns in regard to residential pa...rking for residents and the implication of this. I advised him of my belief being that if residents are granted permit only parks in the surrounding streets of Yarraville then that it's once again going to push visitors to park further out again. This in turn with cause problems for the residents in those streets. In effect take further business from the traders in the village! He acknowledged that my points were valid and I am going to receive another call either today or early next week from Mr. Malcolm McDonald. Coordinator of the Implementation of Permits in MCC. (Chief engineer and planner). Mr Beratis advised me that Mr McDonald's plans on sending out surveys to residents to find a solution. I let Mr. Beratis know that it's in my opinion that the only solution is to remove all the meters due to the 'snow-balling' effect it is having and will continue to have. ie: - Meters in Yarraville. - Causes a need for Permits to residents only outside their homes. -Forcing visitors to Yarraville to park much further away from the Village. - Then causing a parking problem for the homes further out. -Traders business dropping in $ further. It's a catch 22. I URGE ALL RESIDENTS TO CONTACT THE CONCIL TO ENSUREC THAT THEY BE INCLUDED IN THE PROCESS OF PARKING FOR THE RESIDENTS SURVEY THAT WILL BE ARRANGED BY MR. MALCOLM MCDONALD. Also contact the council and ask to discuss this with Malcolm McDonald or Foti Beratis. It's important to keep trying for a contacting MCC. Once again, I'll keep you posted once I'm contacted within a few business days by Mr. Malcolm McDonald.

23.01.2022 Not very good at hiding Wally! But WAIT!.. there’s MORE!
22.01.2022 We thought that there was clarity as to why paid parking was introduced when Councillor Grant Miles spoke yesterday - To make the rail crossing safer (if only there was community consultation to address that problem). And some guidance as to how paid parking 300m from the railway helps improve safety would be helpful as well. Now another councillor has provided their input (see video). How often do decision makers start with the solution - Paid Parking - and then back solve for the issue?
20.01.2022 The No Paid Parking Group acknowledges Council’s decision last night to maintain the moratorium on paid parking in Yarraville (and Footscray) until the adoption of the Destination Parking Management Policy based on the principles provided in the consultant’s report. The NPP Group stepped back since the moratorium was announced to give Council breathing space to review its earlier decisions against world’s best practice and apply what Cr Sarah Carter had asked for when this ma...tter was originally debated: ‘an evidence based policy framework rather than policy on the run’. The time has allowed the staff space to begin the process of integrated planning and good governance bringing the economic, social and environmental policies of Council together rather than treating them as silos. We look forward to being widely consulted on the policy using world’s best practice community consultation processes rather than the sham that led to the debacle of Paid Parking.

19.01.2022 Councillor Cumming, how would you propose to improve the safety around the level crossing?
19.01.2022 September 23 3aw report - Parking fight: Yarraville fruit store considering closure, lay offs (http://www.3aw.com.au//parking-fight-yarraville-fruit-stor) Councillor Grant Miles, how can you say on radio - 'I would like some evidence (of trade decline). Nobody has shown us any evidence to prove anything like that.' ..and further evidence - What about when yourself, Councillor MacDonald, Councillor Quach and the CEO were shown trading figures across a range of traders showi...ng a decline in trade? Interesting that the Council or other Councillors have not released a correction / clarification regarding your statement. Why is the council making it easier to shop at Coles than to support small businesses?
19.01.2022 Extracts from the original paid parking proposal (21 Oct 2014): * NO MENTION OF SAFETY AT THE YARRAVILLE CROSSING * NO MENTION OF RETROSPECtIVELY MAKING THE COMMUNITY PAY FOR THE POP UP PARK OR GETTING PAVEMENTS FIXED * There was extensive community awareness of the proposal, with more than1,700 submissions received (approximately 10% of respondents were positive and 90% were negative). * Paid parking is one of the successful tools employed to ensure that the maximum number o...f customers have access to the shops at their retail destination of choice. (Seems a bit of a long bow) * Here is the paper - http://www.maribyrnong.vic.gov.au//OCT14_SP_CCL_REV_Pay_Pa. Note the lack of a problem definition section, a lack of options that may address the problem and the lack of a business case. Oh and community consultation around how paid parking is to be implemented and not about solving an identified problem. See more
15.01.2022 Things to ponder this afternoon - If the safety of the Yarraville rail crossing is the underlying issue (as has been stated): * Why was the council looking to put parking meters into Seddon? * Why have none of the councillors moved a motion to lobby the state government to have that crossing's safety improved as part of the state government's initiative?
10.01.2022 The recording of Cr Miles interview is online here. It was around 9.05am mark, after the news. https://radio.abc.net.au/programitem/pe40QWWPZQ?play=true
08.01.2022 Good Morning Gorgeous Yarraville! Free parking today! Boom!!
08.01.2022 If you listen to the 774 ABC Melbourne interview by Jon Faine yesterday, at the 7 minute mark, you'll hear Cr Miles state clearly that he did not oppose parking meters in Footscray.
04.01.2022 Amazing listening to Councillor Grant Miles on 774am this morning. Firstly he said that he hadn't seen any data about the impact that paid parking is having on traders. That is just not correct. He has had regular updates from the traders with their revenue figures and he knows that they are well down. Secondly he said that the reason that paid parking has been introduced is to make the level crossing on Anderson street safer. paid parking is such an inappropriate solution to that problem. There are numerous other, more appropriate solution to that problem. The way this council makes decisions is bordering on being reckless. It is pleasing that a wider audience is now placing this council under the scrutiny that is required.
02.01.2022 PLEASE ASK YOUR LOCAL WARD CANDIDATES THE FOLLOWING QUESTION A contentious issue for the last Council was paid parking in Yarraville. The Council was presented with a proposed Destination Parking Policy (http://www.maribyrnong.vic.gov.au/Page/Page.aspx) by the CEO as a resolution through rational planning of parking across the city. That proposal was lost on the casting vote of the chair of the meeting. If you are presented at an early meeting with a similar or same recomm...endation for rational planning through a Destination Parking Policy, will you support the recommendation to adopt this policy? YES / NO Please advise whether it is still your intent to bring back the Destination Parking Policy and whether this proposed action will cut across your intent or support it? Ask them to post their answers to this page.

01.01.2022 We are very pleased with the decision taken today by all Maribyrnong City Councillors for the cessa- tion of paid parking in the small Yarraville Shopping Precinct for the Christmas 2015/16 peak trading period. We support this decision, and commend them for placing the needs of traders and the community at the fore. We look forward to supporting their further consideration of a sensible and appropriate, long term parking solution for Yarraville. We hope that this gesture will,... in some way, mitigate some of the pain that has been so readily felt by small businesses in Yarraville. We see this as a most positive step in the right direction for Councillors of Maribyrnong City, and hope that this and other sensible decisions in the future will serve to restore some of the trust of their constituents. Ultimately, we hope that that the vibrance and uniqueness of Yarraville can be restored. Yarraville Village Says No to Paid Parking
