23.01.2022 If you have an existing appointment with Dr John this side of Christmas consider yourself lucky you have one locked in the system, otherwise we're now booking 2021.

23.01.2022 The June/July school holidays are fast-approaching. If you plan to be away (fingers and toes crossed for you) and you need to reschedule yours or your child's appointment during this time, do let us know so we can secure another spot for you asap.

23.01.2022 Highly recommend our followers listen to the 2 November ABC Radio Health Report podcast with Dr Norman Swan regarding a discussion about regular dental check-ups along with some other interesting topics. Go to: http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au//podc/2020/11/hrt_20201102.mp3

20.01.2022 The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) aims to make it easier for people who receive Federal Government benefits, such as Family Tax Benefit A payments, to keep their kids’ teeth in great shape by providing you with up to $1000 that you can use over a two calendar year period on a range of dental services including examinations, routine cleaning, fillings, and root canals. To discover more about the CDBS program, and whether your child is eligible, call Medicare on 132 011 or visit the Department of Health and Human Services website. Appointments available for 2021.

19.01.2022 This Christmas take care when munching on pork crackle, nuts and hard confectionary. The clinic will be closed Wednesday 23 December until we reopen on Monday 4 January. For emergencies call the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne: 9341-1000. We suggest you store the number in your phone directory.

18.01.2022 Anybody catch an article in The Age newspaper, 'The wellness industry is coming for your teeth,' May 22, 2021? Apparently some wellness gurus don't like daggy toothpaste tubes on their bathroom vanity so they prefer to part with upwards of $10 and even as much as $130 for an "oral health product" that complements their interior design palate. Don't fall for it people.

17.01.2022 Not a weird question, just a weird question mark.

16.01.2022 The clinic will be CLOSED Tuesday 26 January as we observe the "gazetted" public holiday.

16.01.2022 Before you leave the house for Christmas shopping today remember Santa's tip for the day.

15.01.2022 School's back and that means it's time for parents/carers to book April holiday check up appointments. Be quick as spots are filling fast.

15.01.2022 Trivia time: whenever you chew food there are forces of up to 30kg exerted on your teeth. That is roughly the weight of four (4) bowling balls, according to an article in 'Australian Dentist' (No.87 Mar-Apr 2021). The article recommends soft brushing of your teeth for more effective results, gentle brushing doesn't hurt and it protects your gums because you're more likely to brush regularly rather than avoid the areas that hurt. Gentle brushing leaves your mouth feeling refreshed, rough brushing equals pain.

13.01.2022 What to do with disposable face masks? Artist Ai Weiwei has printed thought-provoking images on 20 of them and now they are displayed at the National Gallery of Victoria's Triennial exhibition. Go see for yourself.

13.01.2022 Just a random survey of our followers. Tell us, in comments, what toothpaste you're currently using and remember we continue to collect used oral care waste through TerraCycle. You're welcome.

13.01.2022 We'll just keep the Christmas theme going till we close on Tuesday 22 December.

13.01.2022 During the circuit breaker lockdown our phone will be remotely monitored for emergency calls at 10am and 3pm daily. Please leave your name and phone number and state the reason for your call if you want us to call you back. Thank you and stay safe.

11.01.2022 Remember to wear your mask before you enter the clinic.

11.01.2022 Here's a bit of trivia for you: Dr John has clocked up close to 40 years of experience in private dental practice. That makes him one of the longest practising dentists in the western suburbs. Limited appointments available Monday 4 January-Friday 29 January 2021. From Monday 1 February 2021 clinic hours are: Monday 2:00pm-5:30pm, Tuesday: 9:30am-3:00pm, Wednesday 9:30am-5:00pm, Thursday CLOSED, Friday 9:30am-5:00pm and every third Saturday (from 13 February onwards) 8:30am-2:00pm.

11.01.2022 A huge "well done and thank you" to those of you who have dropped off your used oral care products into our TerraCycle collection bin. We've just posted another 7.7kg of product to TerraCyle - that's almost 8kg of waste that has not gone to landfill - instead it will be recycled into something useful. FYI: we are now accepting appointment inquiries (for existing and new patients) for March 2021 and beyond. Our priority in the lead up to Christmas is urgent and emergency care and COVID-19 suspended appointments. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

09.01.2022 Tip of the day: tie up your climbing plants, such as tomatoes and vines, to a trellis with floss; mint-flavoured floss is "supposed" to help to repel bugs. We can't verify this but we can recommend using floss for its intended purpose - flossing your teeth.
