21.01.2022 Yarra Yarra CMG Field Day held yesterday looking at trial sites carried out over the past 12 months. Developing small pockets of year round grazing on areas which have become unsustainable cropping sites. #droughtproofing #feedgaps . A big thank you to Geoff King, Jason King and Ashley Sutherland for assisting with their sites yesterday. Acknowledgement of our project finders National Landcare Program through the Small Farms Small Grants Program. 15.01.2022 Community Tree Day, if you have a spare hour from 8.45am, Monday morning 10th August come along to the Lyal Kuhne Arboretum just west of Fogarty’s property on the Carnamah-Perenjori Rd, Perenjori. Let’s hope it’s raining and we can quickly put these 120 trees in the ground before we head back to the Wheatbean for a coffee. Please bring a shovel with you!! 14.01.2022 This year we joined with the Community and the Perenjori Primary School to celebrate National Tree Day. This is just the beginning of our project which will revitalise the Lyal Kuhne Arboretum. The students enjoyed getting their hands dirty in the mud and learning about the importance of planting trees for all of the animals and the benefits to the community. 10.01.2022 Create a Living Haystack Project We have just finished our Winter trials today, thank you to our 8 Landholders who have been involved, turned up with tractors, given their valuable time and worked with me. Now all we need is some rain to wash it in and get it out of the ground. We’ve trialled the following winter grazing crops on a selection of soil types: 5 x Clovers Serradella... 10.01.2022 Invertebrate trapping taking place in the Yarra Yarra Catchment with ECU’s Eddie Van Etten doing vegetation surveys and Dr Jonathon Majer from Biomonitoring International in charge of the invertebrate traps, monitoring will take place over the next 2 weeks.Thanks to National Landcare Program and State Natural Resource Management Program WA
07.01.2022 Another Yarra Yarra Project funded by the State Natural Resource Management Program WA is underway with plantings by the crew from Greenoil Tree Nursery, led by Ian Pulbrook. This project is identifying the benefits of pollinators in our broad-acre cropping programs. Without these little critters our crops would not yield well. We are planting a diverse range of plants to attract the pollinators all year round and give them a place to call home Lizzie King
