25.01.2022 Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, GIANT HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN21033.shtml

24.01.2022 Remembrance Day Each year on this day we observe one minute’s silence at 11am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. 1 minute... 11 am 11 November #WeRememberThem

22.01.2022 Weather Situation: Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Canberra, Goulburn, Yass, Wagga Wagga, Griffith and Narrandera. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: ... * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. If severe thunderstorms develop in Sydney Newcastle Wollongong or surrounding areas or Canberra and Queanbeyan, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in these areas. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

10.01.2022 Here is the Thunderstorm Forecast for our area today.

08.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Thunderstorm warning for our area. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN21033.shtml With the rain forecast for the weekend, those with low lying pumps may want to consider moving them higher

06.01.2022 Over the last week the Yass-Hilltops Units have responded to 40 requests for assistance. These requests included help with trees on houses, structures and roads, leaking roofs, water inundation, sandbagging and one to support a communications provider. We would like to thank the community for listening to the Tag Line IF IT’s FLOODED FORGET IT as we did not need to attend any flood rescues during this wet period. If you are interested in joining the NSW SES go to ses.nsw.gov.au/get-involved/volunteer/

06.01.2022 Yass unit had a busy weekend with some members deployed to assist in a land search in the Taralga region (thankfully with a positive outcome). One member is cu...rrently on deployment with a NSW SES strike team assisting QLD SES with the large number of storm jobs from the recent hailstorms in the Ipswich region. Other members from the unit participated in practical training while working at heights for the Storm and Water Damage Operations course; flood rescue training at Penrith and also flood rescue/boat operations training at Gundagai. Well done to all members that participated. See more
