13.01.2022 "Yes, yes" , I know I need to exercise. The GP, Chiropractor, Physio they all tell me I need to and it will help, but there are so many reasons why I don't. Read this article and appreciate that exercise means moving more, exploring the world and having fun.

13.01.2022 "Use it or lose it" we have all heard this but what does it actually mean? Well a recent study has shown that neurological health depends as much on signals sent by the body’s large, leg muscles to the brain as it does on directives from the brain to the muscles. Limiting physical activity decreased the number of neural stem cells by 70 percent compared to a control group. Using your legs, particularly in weight-bearing exercise, sends signals to the brain that are vital for the production of healthy brain cells. Reducing exercise makes it difficult for the body to produce new brain cells. It is no accident that we are meant to be active: to walk, run, crouch to sit, and use our leg muscles to lift things

13.01.2022 Regular walking produces many health benefits, including reducing our risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and depression. We often hear 10,000 is the number of steps to strive for in a day but there is no direct evidence to support this actual number. Many studies do find taking more steps is associated with better health outcomes. 1. 10 per cent reduction in the occurrence of metabolic syndrome (a collection of conditions that increase your risk of diabetes, heart disea...se and stroke) 2. An Australian study demonstrated that each 1000-step increase per day reduced the risk of dying prematurely of any cause by 6 per cent, with those taking 10,000 or more steps having a 46 per cent lower risk of early death. 3. Australian study from 2017 showed people with increasingly higher step counts spent less time in hospital. The bottom line is the more steps, the better.

09.01.2022 The brain is the most important organ in the body and it needs exercise. Current thinking says the brain is "motor-centric". It developed and functions better in an environment of constant movement. If your brain is healthy then all other brain functions will work better. 08.01.2022 We hear it all the time sitting is bad for us. It places increased loads upon our spine, peripheral joints and may cause other health issues. Moving regularly and being active offers great protection against its harm. So in summary think about the following: 1. Reduce the total amount of time you spend sitting. Never sit longer than 30-60mins.... 2. Break up long periods of sitting with movement, (take a short walk) 3. Vary your sitting posture. Remember there is no one good posture. Our bodies are meant to move regularly. If you are experiencing spinal pain or difficultly with movement talk to a professional who is university trained to assess and offer the best spine health advice. 01.01.2022 Myth 3: The doctor didn't find anything wrong, so the pain must be all in my head Pain is always real. Sometimes however medicine is unable to identify the cause of your pain with standard tests, such as x-rays, MRI, ultrasounds etc. A health professional should only order these tests if they believe it will either confirm or form the basis of the treatment that you require. A skillful clinical exam is often all that is required for spinal pain presentations. A chiropractor is university trained to assess, advise and manage spinal pain conditions. If you suffer from acute or persistent spinal pain or are concerned about your spinal health, you can book an appointment to see us at: www.yassspinecentre.com.au
