22.01.2022 Earlier tonight our brigade responded to an MVA on the Hume Highway, this has been a large incident and affected the southbound lanes just passed Lachlan Valley Way. Please monitor Live Traffic and avoid the area as the highway will remained closed for some time. NSW RFS Southern Tablelands Zone

20.01.2022 While we normally don't do this on our Facebook page, we do like to celebrate milestones!!! HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY to our youngest member Ezekiel!!! Best of luck with your year 12 exams, and thank you for your contributions to our brigade during this time. We hope you enjoy your day at school and are able to celebrate it tonight without interruptions... Ezekiel came to our brigade in 2018 after carrying out the Cadets program at Yass High School, and since then has honed his skills and progressed to more intense training. He has attended over 50 training events, and 26 emergency call outs including MVA's, Grass Fires and Structure Fires. (Photo credit to Jo-Anne)

19.01.2022 Fire Season Prep Tip Planning to defend your property is more involved than thinking what you are going to do, you also need to plan HOW you will do it. You also need to know when it is unlikely you can successfully defend your home and your life is now at critical risk, you may unfortunately have to leave your property undefended. See the below Tip #1 on how you can make a start, and as always more information can be found on the NSW RFS website. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare #beprepared #fireready

15.01.2022 At the last training our brigade members were able to practice and hone their skills in putting out vehicle fires. Live fire training when available is the best way to advance our skills beyond books, power points and videos. We are able to see the way fire reacts when we start to suppress these types of fires, we can also see the smoke and the way this also reacts to these atmospheric pressures. Thank you to the members that came down and experienced this in our controlled environment and our trainers for the great night!!

15.01.2022 Fire Season Prep - Tip 1 Pre Season Burning While many are taking the opportunity to carry out hazard reductions in these great conditions, it is paramount that they are continuously inspected even after they have been put out. Hollow trees, stumps can continue burning months after the burn and all it takes is a bit of wind to start a fire. Roots underground from stumps can burn for many months and start fires metres away from the original burn area, again all it takes is for... the root to break the surface and the wind can start a fire in the surrounding area. Notify your neighbours and hit the below link to notify the RFS of your burn. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-inform//burn-notifications

13.01.2022 Planning on doing some burning? You don't need a permit until the Bushfire Danger Period but you still need to let us know. It's now as simple as filling out yo...ur details online @ www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify Jump online now and Notify! Also don’t forget to let your immediate neighbours know of your intentions to burn at least 24 hours in advance!

09.01.2022 A year on from the start of Black Summer, we start the Bushfire Danger Period for 2020/2021. How fireproof is your plan?

08.01.2022 A great training last night putting some of our new members on the radios, and learning how to broadcast messages and SITREPS including the importance of organizing these into an ITASC. A great little break while it was raining.

04.01.2022 Fire Season Prep - Tip 2 Continued One of the most important things you can do is not only making a plan but to practice this plan. Having your family and friends practice their Fire Plans can help put their plan to the test, and find out if it is practical and achievable. See the below picture of a discussion one of our members had with their colleague. Next week will have some handy hints to help prepare your property and how to make it safer for RFS crews to protect your property.
