With the 1st Battalion in France, Tom Richards once wrote about the importance of Rugby to men at the front, Rugby football matches have now become common amongst the Australian troops while resting after a spell in the trenches. For tomorrow they will be en route to the Somme again and the greatest hell ever thought of. But what care they for the morrow, let’s find out who are the best footballers while th...ere is time still in hand. At first these matches were informal encounters between different military groups, but their significance was soon recognised by the military authorities and encouraged as a means of keeping soldiers fit and their mind away from what was happening in the trenches. With the arrival of soldiers from Australian and New Zealand on the Western Front, international wartime Rugby events really took off and by 1917 official matches were being held in Paris and other major towns. 13.01.2022 Nothing gets done in Rugby union without TEAM work!! It was a privilege to host the GCDRU Junior finals this past weekend. We would like to congratulate all the teams on making the finals! You all played with so much heart Thanks to our competition managers, the board, the district clubs junior coordinator’s for pushing through what has been a taxing time for not only the rugby community but everyone as a whole. ... Last of all our amazing dedicated committee.....Our mums, dads, aunties, uncles, grandparents and our wonderful kids and non playing siblings even who came down and rallied to care for our guests!! It was their day and we wanted to make them feel special for reaching their goal of a grand final!! At Yatala Rams - Rugby Union is not just a game... it is a vehicle for community.
