22.01.2022 I spent an interesting day learning about how I can communicate more effectively with businesses I choose to work with. One thing I have taken away is the idea that video is a good tool to utilise and give out useful information. So watch this space, I am gearing myself up to share my knowledge.

22.01.2022 JobKeeper is not easy to navigate and errors will become costly, now is the time to make a sure your claim is right and as bullet proof as possible. Lots of questions have been asked about the payment, who can apply, who is eligible, what does eligibility look like, what are the ongoing requirements, how to calculate the turnover of a business and what happens if you fall outside the basic standard rules. It is all very new to both the ATO and the taxpayer.... We have put together our support package to get you through the next six months, it will cover the application, eligibility and ongoing reporting requirements. 21.01.2022 Just a quick JobKeeper update, the requirement to pay employees has been extended: per the ATO website For the first two fortnights (30 March 12 April, 13 April 26 April), we will accept the minimum $1,500 payment for each fortnight has been paid by you even if it has been paid late, provided it is paid by you by 8 May. If you do not pay your staff by this date, you will not be able to claim JobKeeper for the first two fortnights. This is now timed after the first payout on 4th May which eases cashflow a little.

20.01.2022 This is a measure which will help businesses and landlords through this time give them a fighting chance to be around when we can all start returning to our pre COVID-19 lives. 19.01.2022 The eligibility criteria for JobKeeper payments is constantly being tweaked and updated by the ATO. A lot of people we are speaking with are struggling to keep ahead of these changes, which is why we are focused on doing this for you. If you need any assistance, we are rolling out support in this area. What we have found is that the claim form itself is not too complicated, but having everything in place to justify the figures and back up eligilbity is the part we are worki...ng on to make sure it is as watertight as possible. The last thing we want is the ATO to come knocking in the future and reclaiming the money it has paid out. This is the latest update relating to the alternative test, details are not yet released on the ATO website but more information is coming soon. 15.01.2022 This is a real positive for me, I have been named as a nominee for an award in "Women in Accounting". As part of my submission I have been asked what I bring back to the accounting industry. One of the areas I participate in, is getting the ACCA name out into the public domain. My qualification which is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants has opened so many doors to me and given me the knowledge and skills to help so lots of people and businesse...s to reach their potential. I like to give back to the ACCA and help raise awareness Next week I will be at UWA for their careers fair to talk to students about the opportunities they will have when they choose to take the leap into attaining a professional accounting qualification. For those of you with the qualificaiton here in Perth, I am thinking of putting myself up for panel member. 14.01.2022 Lots of businesses are worrying about how they can pay their staff in advance of receiving funds from the ATO. The biggest burden will be the necessity to make two payments in April for those businesses who are eligible for that period. Cashflow is an issue for businesses who want to support their staff but also keep the business alive for the benefit of all after the pandemic restrictions have been removed. The banks have been asked to provide short term support to brid...ge this gap. On the ATO website on 24 April 2020, it is stated that with regards to the funding of jobkeepers "This will be paid to the employer in arrears each month by us". So be prepared that the cash flow imbalance will continue each month. We are here to remove the stress of assessing whether you are eligible, looking at whether you should claim or providing reassurance around the question; "Will it all come back to haunt and will the ATO will demand their money back in the future?" We have set up systems to ensure we are doing everything possible to support all the claims we make and allow you to access funds which you will need at this time to keep your business safe. 07.01.2022 The announcement that the Government have introduced new hardship provisions which allow early-release of funds has sparked interest for those needing additional support during the current times. The scheme does not come into effect until mid April but I wanted to share this story in case anyone is looking into this. The ATO is managing the new early-release process though its myGov website. There is no need to involve a third party and there are no fees involved.

02.01.2022 Legislation has now been passed for JobKeepers. The next step is for the ATO to give better guidance on the practical application of the new measures. I will keep you informed and post the updates as I know more. Enjoy the Easter weekend - looks like it will be hot again tomorrow. Of course I hear the easter bunny is not high risk and will be active.... My intention is to take the Government advice to "stay home and eat chocolate". It is not all bad afterall. I wonder whether a glass of red wine is also considered the healthy option.
