24.01.2022 Hello all! Maeta here (steering group member- I will be hosting our next event!). A big thank you all the counsellors who congregated from across Yorkshire (and beyond) to make our second YCN meeting such a great success on Saturday! It was lovely to see plenty of new faces amidst many of the friendly crowd from last time. Big thanks to Matt Verguson for being a great host (and our founder of course) and special thanks to Anthony Burnett Woods for sharing his brilliant Hearts... Flow Diagram for working with couples with us- a great workshop and discussion and a lot of *positive strokes* permeating the room afterwards, it was fab! We can't wait for our next event in which we are lucky enough to have Rich Sutcliffe talking to us who runs an ethical digital marketing agency (voted one of Yorkshires 42 entrepreneurs under 42 this year). He's going to be exploring some fundamentals of marketing and how you can market yourself without compromising your principles. We also have the wonderful counsellor, writer and YCN member Erin Stevens facilitating an important discussion on ScoPed. Saturday the 1st of June folks at The City Hub in Bradford, get it in your diaries! See more

21.01.2022 Hello lovely YCN-ers, Were excited to announce that tickets for our third Yorkshire Counsellors Network event in June are now live on Eventbrite! As always, there will be opportunity to connect with other counsellors from the area and find out whats been happening at YCN alongside this months exciting talk and discussion. Rich Sutcliffe and ethical marketing: Many of us as counsellors (particularly those entering private practice) can find it difficult to navigate the see...mingly incongruous worlds of counselling and marketing. But do these fields have to be incompatible? We are lucky enough to have Rich Sutcliffe coming to speak to us, who owns an ethical digital marketing agency and was voted one of Yorkshires 42 entrepreneurs under 42 this year. He works to help people with social purpose communicate their message better to their stakeholders. In this session, Rich will explore some fundamentals of marketing and how we can market ourselves without compromising our principles. Erin Stevens and ScoPEd: YCN will also be hosting a discussion looking at the Scope of Practice and Education framework (SCoPEd). The controversial framework, developed by BACP, UKCP and BPC is said to map competencies for training and practice in counselling and psychotherapy. Critics say the project unfairly denigrates counselling, is biased towards psychoanalysis and politically-motivated. So what is SCoPEd and what does it mean for the future of our profession? Our discussion will be facilitated by Erin Stevens, YCN member and prominent critic of SCoPEd. Erin aims to offer a space for lively and inclusive debate, welcoming all viewpoints and constructively examining the issues it raises for the profession. This event is free but we do ask for a couple of pounds on the day to cover room hire. Tickets are available through the link below: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ycn-3-summer-tickets-6047146 We look forward to seeing you there! Maeta & the YCN team

19.01.2022 Hi folks, YCN is hoping to feedback on our last event and launch our next one layer this week, as part of that we would like your help. Our next Meetup will also be our first birthday! And some lovely feedback from someone who has attended several of our meetups got us thinking - many counsellors and therapists have attended and been involved over the last year. We've done 5 events, had 8 speakers, and, with a conservative estimate, had 20 counsellors attending more than once... and around 50 attending at least once. This is where you come in- we'd love to hear what you think, good or bad! We want to hear what you've liked, and what you'd like more of. We want to know what've you got out of being part of YCN. We are always try to respond to criticism and will happily do so now. However our aim with this request is to bring together the experiences of all the counsellors and therapists who have participated. If we get enough we would like to use them at our birthday session the last weekend of January and possibly in any future promotional posts or emails. We will use your comment, first name and how you describe your role (counsellor, therapist, coach etc.) If you have anything to share email us at [email protected] with your name, role and comment. Thanks for your time and many thanks for being part of YCN! Matt and the YCN steering group!
