20.01.2022 The air was warm from the golden December sun and filled with the fragrance of freshly harvested garden sweetpeas that lined the tables. The hall was bursting with abundant, seasonal botanicals that celebrate Christmas time in Australia. There was graduations of pistachio to olive coloured foliage harvested under the early morning light, together with bold, blush king proteas and cheery, vibrant pincushions. Each woman designed her own Christmas wreath. She gathered the blo...oms that inspired her most while enjoying sparkling wine and hearty, homemade sweets. 16.01.2022 YHFF is a micro flower farm that grows flowers sustainably to sell to the local Warrnambool and surrounding communities. YHFF is run by myself whilst I also juggle full time veterinary work. So yes, I do often have a bunch of flowers in one hand and a puppy, kitten or even horse lead rope in the other hand!! In addition to growing flowers ourselves, I regularly visit the Melbourne Flower Markets when extra stems are needed for a special event. I insist on sourcing flowers g...rown only in Victoria to use for our events including weddings, flower crown workshops and dinner parties. This means we only source what is in season while supporting other Victorian flower farmers. 16.01.2022 I’m inspired most when I design garden bridal bouquets that celebrate flowers that I’ve nurtured from seed. I’ve watched them slowly but faithfully grow sometimes over months and bloom to then be harvested often on the morning of a wedding day. I’ve carefully watered, transplanted, monitored and organically managed pests and harvested stems so that each is glorious and fragrant. I also work closely, often via many emails, with other growers and wholesalers so that I can sourc...e additional stems when a bouquet needs something special. Growing flowers is so good for my soul and when a bride takes the time the day after her wedding to say that she couldn’t put her bouquet down throughout her day as she thought it was ‘too beautiful to part with’ my heart just sings . 12.01.2022 Hello 2021! I must say I don’t think I’m quite ready for you. I’m still savouring some of my beautiful moments from 2020. Like everyone on this planet 2020 involved so many changes I didn’t expect but I feel so incredibly grateful to live where we do and be able to be surrounded by flowers, animals and loved ones.
