25.01.2022 Look at how this father normalises the big feeling of being in front of an audience. He calls it for what it is and then prompts her by singing her first lines for her. So sweet...so honouring.
25.01.2022 Best rant ever! In our online public speaking class yesterday, one of our young speakers asked me ‘what is conviction’? This one is for you (you know who you are)...
23.01.2022 This is a great summary for how to think about sharing yourself and your message with the world. Go back to Jack Black basics!!!!
21.01.2022 We love this list! Just reading it can make you happy...
20.01.2022 In our experience, children begin censoring themselves at around age 6. By the time they are 8 years old, they can be fairly self-conscious. So the question becomes, how do you help your child keep their unique spark alive, even in the full presence of others? Speaking & performance clubs are a good way to do this. Kids learn the importance of being self-aware and ALSO spontaneous. When delivering a speech, the YL approach is about strong delivery AND developing an uncensore...d practice that makes things fun! The thing is, an audience is always waiting for those moments when you let your uncensored self shine through. It calls our attention. It snaps us awake. Being YOU is always unique & interesting. Feel it - Speak it - Own it www.lanternleague.com #publicspeaking #shineyourlight
17.01.2022 During this global shift toward increasing understanding and respect of different cultures and #blacklivesmatter some may be looking for resources to teach our kids about racism. If you are interested here is a great link to some excellent resources... https://itstopswithme.humanrights.gov.au/education-resource
17.01.2022 Never give up! Look at the focus and determination here. So inspiring.
15.01.2022 For all of our Lantern League club members who want to learn how to SLAM or RAP...check this out! The best way to start is with a children's book that rhyme. You can search up your own rap backing rack on YouTube. Super fun activity...it just takes some attitude and a bit of rehearsing! Lantern League Global
14.01.2022 Language to teach our kids so they can have new and needed conversations:
11.01.2022 Anyone got kids graduating from high school this year? One of our facilitators, Lyndall, has a son that has just graduated from Yr 12. It was all live-streamed due to Covid restrictions and she used one of our Yellow Lantern graduation activities and tweaked it to make this occassion really meaningful for her son. She sent messages to all his close family and friends, asking for them to write something to him - words of wisdom, well wishes, what his strengths are or even a ...prayer. (Be very specific when asking what you want!) She then wrote them out onto colour paper and rolled them up to make each one look like a graduation scroll. She then filled 13 balloons (to represent each school year) with confetti and some scrolls and then helium. The physical act of popping them allows him to recognise that these school days are over and released - a fun celebration as the confetti fills the air! And then he gets the stunning surprise of being able to read all the heartfelt messages. Congratulations to all the graduates of 2020!!!! What a year and you have developed grit, determination and resilience from it all. Well done! See comments section for pictures of the scrolls. See more
09.01.2022 An indigenous look at the stars! Watch this short video for kids...you will never look at the Southern Cross in the same way again!
08.01.2022 Kathy Buckley is one of our favourite public speakers. As a deaf women she has learnt to inflect her voice to match what her soul wants to say. She has overcome disability, a car accident, attempted suicide and even cancer. What a hero and what a powerful message she has for us all. #shineyourlight
