25.01.2022 Didnt listen when your mum nagged you to sit or stand up straight? You should have! If youre a serial sloucher, you can probably trace your neck and shoulder pain, stiffness, and aching back rightttt back to your posture. Don't pretend you can't, we know you can! Ignoring advice on good posture can affect your health overall, and set you up for not only neck and shoulder strain, but significant back pain and even joint damage. You may dismiss the discomfort for a while,... but its your bodys way of getting your attention, so be sure to take notice So today we have 3 TIPS to focus on to help you improve your posture: 1 Pay attention to your desk setup (as poor workplace posture is a major cause of back pain!) 2 Improve your core strength (the abdominal and low back muscles that connect to your spine and pelvis) 3 Keep moving and be active regularly (as our bodies need to keep moving to avoid fatigue and the nasty effects of being too sedentary) Having good posture can take time, and often there is so much advice out there to follow! If 2020 is your year for finally fixing your poor posture and sorting our your spinal health, you better get chatting to Dr Aidan when you're next in the clinic!

25.01.2022 We put a lot of impact on our joints over the years. Eventually they start to show the signs of wear and tear. With age, arthritis can cause the joints in our knees, hands, wrists, and feet to become stiff and sore. Arthritis also affects the vertebrae in our neck, which get worn down from years of supporting our head. Read on for 5 simple exercises to help effectively manage arthritis in the neck

23.01.2022 6 great years in our first practice! It’s been an absolute pleasure and thank you all for your support. We’ll see you at the new digs! 46 Shottery St, Yeronga. Same number: 38921440 :)

23.01.2022 Some people love the feeling of cracking their knuckles, while others cringe at the sound. But what causes that trademark pop?

22.01.2022 We know what youre wondering... and yes this is a real thing The fact is that we are sitting so long that our butts are literally falling asleep! Dead butt syndrome, or gluteal amnesia, is a condition that occurs when your gluteus medius gets inflamed and forgets to function normally.... Sitting too long can restrict the blood flow, causing gluteal amnesia, which can lead to hip pain, lower backache and problems with your ankles. The glutes will fail to fire properly even when performing exercises targeting the glutes Pretty much, our glutes arent designed to bear weight for long periods. Spending so much time on our backsides decreases our bodys ability to use our incredibly powerful gluteus muscles when theyre needed. How do you prevent dead butt syndrome occurring? The best way to prevent dead butt syndrome is to keep yourself active and healthy. If you sit for prolonged periods of time, Bell recommends taking frequent breaks to stand up, stretch and walk around as a means of keeping the posterior muscles active throughout the day. Have hip tightness or muscular pain? Get in touch with us!

22.01.2022 Movember fundraising is all wrapped up and I’m back to a, somewhat, clean shaven mugshot. A total of $826 was raised including $256 in donations from patients and members of Indigo Soul left in a jar on the reception desk. I’m stoked! Thanks again ... 7 years down. 5 more and I’ll make a calendar! Some beauty in these pics. Just follow the link https://au.movember.com/mospace/308060

20.01.2022 In the light of everything going on in our world right now, let's talk about something that's of HUGE importance... our amazing immune systems! What does our immune system do for us? The immune system protects us from diseases caused by bacteria, viruses and toxins, and helps remove foreign bodies and malignant cells from our system. ... What's important for our immune systems? FUELLING our gut! 70-80% of our immune cells live in the gastrointestinal tract along with the 100 trillion gut bacteria that make up the gut microbiota. The gut is a major entrance for pathogens, toxins and allergens and one of the major roles of the immune system in the gastrointestinal tract is to distinguish between harmless antigens, such as food, and health hazards. How the immune system fights viruses and the nasties Your skin and saliva are key barriers to infection and form part of your immune system, along with cells in every tissue of your body, including your blood and your brain. Some of these cells migrate around to fight infection at specific sites, such as a wound graze. Other cells reside in one tissue and regulate your bodys natural state of health by monitoring and helping with the healing process. Want more information on boosting your immune system? 13.01.2022 Ok. This might not be the greatest look - not even black and white improves it. But it’s about the Movember cause and if it grabs attention, morbidly or not, it’s worth it. If you haven’t already committed to sponsoring anyone else’s facial pubes, please please help by contributing to men’s physical and mental health (just follow the link to my Movember page). By contributing you may also make this thing worthwhile, thereby contributing to my wellbeing. It’s my wedding anniversary at the end of this month and someone is less than impressed. No idea why! After six years of shaving down I’ve decided to see how big and beautiful I can get this one that was once a beard. https://movember.com/m/aidanmcguigan?mc=1

10.01.2022 Good posture helps your back sleep.. and the posture we all sleep in plays a part in how we feel waking up in the morning! Most everyone knows that good posture is important, but good posture doesn't apply just to sitting and standing. Here are some tips to help you sleep better:... 1 Choose a mattress that provides support for the natural curves of your spine and is comfortable. 2 Choose the right pillows, to support your head and neck, as well as your spine (head pillows should support the natural curve of your neck and be comfortable) 3 Don't forget to replace your pillow every 1-2 years to ensure you have the very best support! (Pillows too have a shelf life ) 4 Regardless of your sleeping position, try to keep your ears, shoulders, and hips aligned 5 DON'T sleep on your stomach! 6 When turning in bed, remember not to twist or bend at the waist but to move your entire body as one unit. Keep your belly pulled in and tightened, and bend your knees toward the chest when you roll Happy, healthy sleeping everybody!

02.01.2022 Migraines and magnesium... 2 topics we often talk about in the YC clinic - but not often in one conversation! Migraines can be challenging to treat using traditional painkillers, so many people look for alternative ways to help prevent them. We're excited today to inform you all that one potential remedy in fact is... MAGNESIUM! ... Magnesium is a natural mineral that helps keep blood pressure stable, promotes heart health, regulates nerve and muscle function, and builds bone, DNA, and protein. A lack of magnesium may also contribute to headaches and migraines. Some people use magnesium to treat and prevent migraine symptoms, including a severe headache, visual disturbances, sensitivity to light and sound, and nausea and vomiting The American Migraine Foundation suggest taking a 400500 milligram (mg) supplement of magnesium oxide daily to prevent migraines. Some other research has indicated that taking a magnesium supplement could be an effective way to prevent headaches. Other studies have also suggested that the magnesium levels in a persons brain may be low during a migraine! We stock the Bioceutical's range in the clinic, and have always stocked magnesium as our go-to supplement for muscular cramps and for migraine relief. Talk to Dr Aidan in the clinic at your next appointment for a personal recommendation on magnesium supplementing and appropriate quantities!

01.01.2022 Day to day we face stresses of varying degrees which have varying effects on us as individuals. With the current global pandemic it could be easy to become complacent; finding ourselves stuck in a rut. Now more than ever it is important to keep connected, proactive and appreciate the positives. There are many things to be positive about and a number of ways we can keep ourselves mentally strong. Now is the perfect time to grow, maintain or improve your health, and strengthen ...your connections to family and friends. Here are just a few suggestions:- *Meditation: Meditation, among other things, assists mindfulness and a healthy sense of perspective. Its a great exercise that helps to bolster resilience and to feel grounded in times of stress. This can be done whilst sitting in the comfort of your own home or, to some extent, whilst out for a walk. *Three good things Gratitude: During your day to day or if you find yourself going through a difficult time, attending to what is good in your life can shift your perspective and decrease negative emotions. *Get active in mind and body: We all know the benefits to physical exercise like Stronger bones, Lower risk of heart attack, More energy, better mood just name a few. There are also many other ways to keep your mind and body active such as: Gardening, Learning something new, music and many more. *United in strength: At a time like this it is more important now than ever to stay connected and support one another. We are fortunate to live in a time where there are multiple platforms available that make it easier to stay connected. Whatever you are feeling, you are not alone. Without your usual routines, you may be wondering what to do while social distancing or quarantining. And as nice as it is to connect with people who you are not able to see in person, there is also the other side and spending too much time with the people who are in your household and it is important to maintain healthy relationships. Having the forced physical closeness can sometimes be a little overwhelming so it is important to give each other space. Create a little space somewhere in your home you can go to when you need some you time and spend it doing something that makes you happy and can then re-join the family refreshed. For a more information on these topics, why not visit our blog at https://www.yerongachiropractic.com.au/stay-mentally-stron/ Are problems with pain or mobility hampering your strength?? Ph: 38921440. We are here to help!
