25.01.2022 Here we go again With regret Yessica Myotherapy will be closing from midnight tonight to keep both her family and clients safe from COVID-19 transmission. Geelong cases have risen this last week and we will only know in a couple of weeks how well it has been managed. If everyone is doing the right thing we should be able to reopen soon but only time will tell. Please all stay safe wear a mask when you go out, the more we comply the faster we will have this pandemic under... control. As offered previously I am available for telephone consultations. 25.01.2022 Why a bare foot clinic? Well in this day in age we wear shoes everywhere, often even inside. Our feet are full of proprioceptors, which are part of the nervous system telling your brain where you are in space. Communicating to the brain which then in turn activate muscles, ligaments, tendons to produce movement, stability and balance. When we put shoes on we dampen our feet proprioceptors. ... Walking bare foot activates these proprioceptors waking up the nervous system producing better movement, balance and muscular control. When your are not wearing shoes you have to stabilise so much more, activating all the intrinsic muscles and you are getting a free foot massage especially when walking on uneven surface like the lawn or the on the beach. Spring is here. Kick those shoes off and enjoy all the information you feel through your feet. In the clinic we have been using pilates socks all winter, some of us feel the cold more and when our feet get cold so do we, but with summer approaching we should be able to go full bare foot in the clinic and enjoy all the benefits it will bring us. Why not start today. Find a grassy or sandy area to practice on. Experiment with different surfaces. See more

24.01.2022 Proprioception What is you therapist talking about when they say proprioception and why is it important Proprioception is the sense that tells your brain where your body is in space. It plays a big role in self-regulation, coordination and body awareness Have you ever tried to drink your drink and forgotten to open your mouth or poured too early? Or tripped over your own feet? Because you were busy talking or watching tv? This is something we normally do naturally but some...times this sense glitches. Why? Injuries or medical conditions can affect proprioception sometimes short term but it can be long term too. It mostly affect conditions of the brain and nervous system I.e. Brain injuries Herniated disc Multiple sclerosis Stroke Peripheral neuropathy Alcohol, drugs and some medications Ageing Parkinson / Huntingtons disease What to look out for: Balance issues, such as having trouble standing on one foot, falls Uncoordinated movement Clumsiness dropping or bumping into things Proprioception plays a role in every move you make, walking , eating, driving etc. Your GP, physiotherapist can perform tests to determine if you have a problem. A proprioception program can help improve your motor skill, muscle strength and balance. Yoga, pilates, swinging your ams while walking, running are just a few things you can do to improve strength, balance and proprioception

24.01.2022 Hi all In these challenging times that Im sure we all find a little weird. I wanted to reach out to you. Im sure some of you may not be able to see friends and family.... Jessica has been more or less in isolation since her return from Denmark, only recently going out for essentials or to walk the dogs. Jessica is fortunate to live on a big property and have access to a home gym For those who are feeling isolated and finding it difficult to exercise Jessica would like to extend this offer: Yessica Myotherapy has been trialing Telehealth/Physio Track. Its not at all as scary as Jessica thought , on top of that its very user friendly for both clinic and clients, even for those with little computer knowledge. While hands on treatment is on hold during this crises until its deemed safe, this service is a good option for Jessica to assist in treating clients niggles and offer advice from afar. As an added bonus we get to keep in touch, as you know I miss you guys. Physio track allows us the option to video chat so Jessica will be able to assess which exercises to prescribe, and even suggest how to self massage if necessary. The exercise prescription is small videos. The program will be customised to you. You will have to download an app to your device. From the app we can chat/video chat record your exercises and Jessica will be able to track how you are traveling. The exercises can be adjusted at any time. Yessica Myotherapy will be offering this for free until 30 of April 2020. At this point Telehealth is not supported for Myotherapists on private health insurance. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you up to date. Please let me know if this service would assist you during this time. Cheers Jessica Andersen Yessica Myotherapy 0419612745 https://www.physitrack.com/?lang=en-AU

20.01.2022 Yessica Myotherapy has regrettably made the decision not to reopen the clinic due to the outbreak of the corona virus, COVID-19 we will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed. Firstly its impossible for Jessica to keep social distancing as a hands on therapist. Secondly Jessica is not a good cleaner (but a very good therapist) the coronavirus, COVID-19 can live on surfaces for up to or longer than 42 hours ... We dont know how long this pandemic will last. What we know is that it spreads fast and has already in the short while we have know of it, taken many lives. I am heart broken for my clients that I know depend on treatment. Keep your immune system strong stay active Jessica is going to miss you so much

16.01.2022 Nordic Walking I found when I ran classes a few years ago that walking with nordic walking poles gave people a sense of feeling safer, especially when rehabbing from any sort of injury. Another thing people commented on was that they could walk further and a little faster without realising it. Also many felt that their knees hurt less both during and after the walk. It can take a little time to get the hang of the technique but when you get it you got it. ... Often we forget to swing our arms when walking; using the poles re-educates us in doing so. Research has found that swinging our arms when we walk increase our coordination and balance, which help prevent falls as we get older. What is it? It is a fun social and effective way to be active Walking with poles Cross country skiing without the snow or skis An all body workout Why Nordic Walking? Simple and less intensive Provides better value for the same perceived rate of exertion Fun social activity Low impact workout Benefits of Nordic Walking Provides increased stability, security and confidence with walking Develops co-ordination and integrates major muscle groups Effective in rehabilitation Nordic Walking energy expenditure averages 20%greater than normal walking at same speed Lower rate of perceived exertion for a given workload Now taking enrolments for September 5 week course Equipment provided Sessions approximately 60 minutes (private sessions can be shorter to suit individuals) Starting Wednesday 7 PM 18/9/2019 at least 4 people max 6 in a class Please enquires Jessica Andersen 0419612745 Member of Nordic walking Australia & Nordic Academy Want to know more Call Jessica Andersen 0419612745 Or have a look @theese websites https://www.nordicwalkingaustralia.com.au / http://www.nordicacademy.com.au

15.01.2022 Week 4 (Sorry I missed last week I still need to do a photo shoot for that one) People ask me all kinds of questions, the next few weeks I will expand on a few of them. You are welcome to come with suggestions on what you would like me to cover. So who do you see and what do you do to look after yourself? Well that actually depends; I have an amazing Physiotherapist and a beautiful chiropractor. My go to myotherapist had the cheek to move away. But tonight I had a therapeuti...c massage and absolutely loved it, but my hip is still sore so I still have to see the Physio :) For muscular pain I see the Physiotherapist or myotherapist, if I think its more skeletal/spinal then I see the chiropractor At the moment I do a pilates and a yoga class a week. I also do my own pilates practice, but find classes very rewarding as the teacher can watch me and guide me toward better practice and push me a little harder than I would push myself. I do try to walk at least 5 times a week but have found that a little challenging over winter. But I have joined a hiking group on face book and that gets me to You Yangs once or twice a week. The other days I walk Rosie along Howells creek I just love watching her bounce. I try to eat mostly healthy but that can be a little challenging too, but at least I follow the recommendations of a high fibre diet so lots of grains; veggies and at least a piece of fruit a day. I do also take a few supplements that have been recommended by the GP or naturopath when needed. I think that is enough about me :)

15.01.2022 AMT advised our members to discontinue treating one week ago. The State and Federal Government messaging around attending massage has become extraordinarily confusing. Here are some things to consider before booking or attending a massage.

14.01.2022 Hi all Yessica Myotherapy is ready to increase hours and start taking new clients What is Myotherapy ? It’s actually not an easy question to answer; ... Our association definition is: Myotherapy is a client-centred healthcare profession focusing on the assessment, treatment and management of the whole person, applying a range of modalities and evidence-informed knowledge to support client outcomes. What kind of treatment you get from each myotherapist depends where they studied Myotherapy and what further education they have taken on. Some courses are more practical and others are more academic. Similar to other professions we are all different in our own way. Sometimes it takes awhile to find one that suit your needs. Who is Jessica and what does she do? Jessica’s course was practical and as her background is remedial massage. She tends to lean more toward a hands on approach. She is a big believer in movement as the best medicine for pain relief and pain management and science supports this . Therefore she will always encourage exercise and often prescribe it too. Jessica has also done training in KLT ‘Kinetic link training’ and Pilates. Yessica Myotherapy has set up a little gym in the clinic to support her clients the best she can. Please feel free to contactc Yessica Myotherapy via text / email / or phone 0419612745 [email protected] to make an appointment or answer questions. Enjoy the . 05.01.2022 https://www.washingtonpost.com//strokes-coronavirus-young/ I know I have been quiet for a while... and sharing news on this page is not my thing BUT I was so confused yesterday as I received a message from my association that they had negotiated with the government to make Myotherapy essential wow I thought but then I thought again, how can I keep you all safe and then this article in Washington times this morning I know we have very low numbers in Australia. But I... still feel I as a therapist and a person has to adhere to government guidelines stay home as much as possible; keep distance; hygiene ( for me to stay open I would have to disinfect the clinic after each client and how do I keep 1.5m distance and massage you at the same time . Even without hands on treatment it would be impossible for me to keep that distance at all times) Im dont know how long this will take but please stay safe and healthy If you have any issues I do telehealth consults. See more

05.01.2022 Sorry Yessica has been a little quiet the last few weeks. But quiet doesnt mean Im not thinking about you or am too busy, it just mean Im not all that great at keeping up with social media . Oh and we have got a new family member ... if you can please ignore her, if the kids happen to let her free roam, when you attend your appointment. She needs to learn manners as we think she may get to 30kg and then it may not be that cute when she jumps on you, but right now she is absolutely adorable Here are a few photos of what been going on at our little sanctuary

04.01.2022 To all you beautiful people out there. I hope you are all coping and staying sane, especially you with the kids at home If you are stuck at home take this time to reflect and maybe be brave and learn something new. With everything closing down we have to be creative and find new ways of normal. A lot of businesses are being innovative, finding new ways of staying open i.e. online. Jessica is not confident of running Yessica Myotherapy like that but you are all welcome to... call me. Ill be happy to prescribe exercises over the phone or face time. Or answer any questions you may have. Refer you to someone that may run sessions on line. Physiotherapy Australia is setting up an online forum called Telehealth, this way we can stay safe and follow the governments guide lines. Dont know how to stay active and sane at home, our very own Inner Balance studio is going to run online classes please head over to their web side https://ibpilates.com.au
