25.01.2022 FMG APPEAL TO THE HIGH COURT The Federal Court ruled against an FMG appeal in October this year in opposition to a 2017 ruling by judge Steven Rares that gave Yindjibarndi exclusive native title rights and today they have appealed that decision again.
25.01.2022 A letter from YAC was read today at the protest in Perth that was sparked after the desecration of sacred sites at Juakan Gorge in the Pilbara. We must continue to raise our voices so this tragedy does not happen again.

20.01.2022 YINDJIBARNDI HOPEFUL ABOUT HIGH COURT DECISION TOMORROW Its been a long road for Yindjibarndi since being granted exclusive native title rights in 2017. Fort...escue Metals Group, who mine iron ore at the Solomon Hub on Yindjibarndi land, have not reached out to YAC to negotiate a reasonable payout. Tomorrow, the High Court will decide on FMGs appeal against the exclusive native title ruling for Yindjibarndi. CEO, Michael Woodley says that he is optimistic about the outcome and is in no hurry to put a price on compensation. "We can only be as confident as six judges ruling in our favour. We are not going to put a price on this. Firstly, we will be getting a forensic analysis done on FMGs operation to date and see what that stacks up to be," he said. " If we are taking the Timber Creek standards of compensation, then its three bites of the cherry in what we can apply for."

16.01.2022 The Yindjibarndi people have always stated they prefer that their traditional lands be left alone, and to stay as it always has since Ngurra Nyjunggamu (when the world was soft). This was the legacy left by the old people and the way it was always supposed to be. The current populations of Yindjibarndi people have always wanted the opportunity to manage that land in the same way. However, that has not been possible The Yindjibarndi people would much prefer to be living on country in peace rather than fighting to protect it through the courts ...
16.01.2022 Under the new restrictions, we can now have 30 people attend.

13.01.2022 YINDJIBARDNI ON COUNTRY It was a true privilege to spend the day on country across the Pilbara region learning about the Yindjibarndi peoples connection t...o land and their stories. This was such a spiritual experience that our team are extremely grateful to share and something we will never forget. These learnings will support that our program continues its Indigenous focus in supporting the community and collaborating with local TOs & Elders. Special thank to our host Hayden, Emma and elder Middleton for your insights, knowledge and trust. Biggest thank you to our partners at The Global Roaming Pilbara Foundation and Fiona White-Hartig for all your support. #Yindjibarndi #Indigenous #MoreThanJustAGame

10.01.2022 The Federal Inquiry into the destruction of Juukan Gorge is revealing the true extent of the one-sided relationships between Traditional Owners and mining bodie...s. Yesterday, the Committee was exposed to shocking details that FMG had refused to pay almost $2,000,000 AUD owed to the Wintawari Guruma Aboriginal Corporation (WGAC) in royalties since February. Let me make this very clear, such behavior from mining companies is nothing new. They will take whatever they can with as little thought given to the needs of Indigenous communities as is permissible. In the words of the Director of WGAC Jocelyn Hicks "In our experience, FMG comply with their agreement when it suits them" Absolutely disgraceful.
10.01.2022 GANALILI OPENING FEATURED ON ORIC WEBSITE Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC has transformed Roebournes old Victoria Hotel into an impressive community ...hub and cultural centre. Roebourne, Western Australia: Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC purchased Roebournes Victoria Hotel in 2013 and set about transforming it into a dynamic hub for community and collaboration. The hotel had closed in 2005 due in large part to its role in facilitating alcohol abuse in the town. So its redevelopment heralds a new era for Roebourne. 09.01.2022 The Yindjibarndi people have renamed Roebourne’s refurbished Victoria Hotel, the Ganalili Centre, which is the Yindjibarndi word for the light in the morning before the sun comes over the horizon. An alcohol-free premises, the Ganalili Centre represents a new dawn for a positive, inclusive, culturally significant location for the whole community. The public transformation of the old hotel is an allegory of the statement being made by the Yindjibarndi people that they continue... to shape the future by building upon their foundation of an extensive and priceless cultural archive, ongoing unique Birdarra law, compelling identity and the effective advocacy for their Indigenous and human rights. This stunning centre is the expression of a resilient, honest and culturally innovative community that has much to more to say to a national and global audience than the stereotypical narratives sometimes portrayed. The Yindjibarndi’s Ganalili Centre offers a window into Western Australia’s history, heritage and dynamic present, created by an inclusive, thoughtful, but fiercely independent group, who are not easily dismissed or denied. We look forward to describing this feature of the Yindjibarndi journey.

02.01.2022 JUBILEE DOWNS SALE The opportunity to purchase Jubilee Downs cattle station recently was regarded as a huge opportunity for self-determination and closing the g...ap for young Yi-Martuwarra people, and for ownership rights not bestowed by Native Title, according to Yi-Martuwarra spokesperson Mr Anthony McLarty. Us traditional owners, weve been here from beyond time, we want to be able to do good business and contribute to the wealth of this company. The Yi-Martuwarra wanted to own the station land, which contains the Qaunbun lease, that is within their native title determination, and felt keenly the disappointment of missing out on the purchase, especially given the long relationship with the vendors, the Anderson family. My family used to work with them and for them, and had great history with that family. We had hopes that hed come and sit down with us first, as family I suppose. My old girls, they raised Karen, they were part of her life ever since she was a young girl, and Keith came along and my uncles and my brothers worked really close with him and formed that family kind of relationship where youd think theyd come and see us and give us first chance, even have a discussion around it. But that didnt take place. The Yi-Martuwarra represented by KAPCO, Yanunijarra Aboriginal Corporation and the Nature Conservancy, bid unsuccessfully in stage one of the sale process and have since contended that the bidding process should be reviewed. Mr McLarty told Ngaarda Media the bid could have been upped but there was no opportunity to do so. We could have upped the bid if needed. To me it sounds like a done deal before we even knocked at the door. Comments made by the successful bidder, Andrew Forrest, on ABCs Country Hour recently that he would not at this stage rule out using water from the Fitzroy River for irrigation, have alarmed the TOs. The Minister for Lands, Ben Wyatt, said last week he had not received any communication from the Yi-Martuwarra traditional owners nor a request to transfer land for Jubilee Downs, but the legislation sets out a range of things that the Minister for Lands can do. 02.01.2022 One of the biggest native title compensation claims is set to be launched in the federal court on Thursday. Clan leader Galarrwuy Yunupingu is seeking up to $700 million in compensation from the commonwealth over the Gove mine in the Northern Territory. The government allowed the mine to go ahead in 1968, against the wishes of the Gumatj people of northeast Arnhem Land.
