25.01.2022 Many thanks to our 1st LIEUTENANT Peter Brimblecombe for a last minute request to attend Boolarra Primary School for the DO IT FOR DOLLY event.

25.01.2022 Hi to all our yinnar sth residents I hope you didn't sustain to much damage during the recent storm. I know some areas were hit harder than others. l know a lot of you and including me lost power for a number of days and some still have no power or even able to leave your home's etc due to trees down There are contractors working to clear roads to allow ausnet to get thru to reinstated power to your properties etc The community really have bonded together to help each ot...her out in clearing trees and even getting food and fuel to those still trapped by trees etc The true Aussie spirit at work Now your probably wondering why you haven't seen your own local brigade out helping and this has annoyed me when the brigade wasn't asked to help This decision comes back to the ICC in Traralgon who coordinate the use of crews including SES and CFA etc we can't just turn our selves out as a brigade to help it must be done via Firecom from the ICC and if we did turn out under our own accord we wouldn't be cover by insurance if a member was injured It's also annoyed me that some SES crews were out working on there own as one member clearing trees when our brigade members could have teamed up with them to make the job safer and quicker So to everyone please stay safe Kind regards Mark bruerton Yinnar sth Captain

17.01.2022 Today we mark one year since the start of the devastating bushfires which deeply affected Victorian communities across the state. On 21 November, 2019 the first... ‘code red’ fire danger rating in almost a decade was declared in the Mallee and Northern Country, and dry lightning strikes in East Gippsland that started three fires which grew to a widespread bushfire disaster that burned for months. Today we reflect on the devastation and challenges that followed 21 November and the incredible support from all emergency services who came together to aid the communities impacted by the unprecedented fire season. 16.01.2022 Important update for our community on brigade training for this upcoming fire season.

16.01.2022 Victoria 82 years ago today on Friday the 13th of January 1939 Victoria was devastated by the Black Friday bushfires which at the time were Australia’s wo...rst bushfire event on record. Tragically 71 lives, over 1,300 homes, 69 sawmills and 3,700 buildings were lost with almost 2,000,000 hectares of land burned and 5 entire towns completely wiped off the map with some never being rebuilt. The most damage was felt in the mountain and alpine areas in the northeast and around the southwest coast. The Acheron, Tanjil and Thomson Valleys and the Grampians, were also hit hard. Omeo, Pomonal, Warrandyte (which in 1939 was not part of Melbourne’s urban sprawl) and Yarra Glen were also badly damaged. It was calculated that three-quarters of the state was affected either directly or indirectly by the disaster with the resulting Royal Commission noting that it appeared the whole State of Victoria was alight on Friday, 13 January 1939. The Royal Commission attributed the cause of the fires to careless burning, campfires, graziers, sawmillers and land clearing, in addition to fires which existed prior to the 13th January that were either not able to be extinguished or left unattended and the fires were allowed to burn under control, as it was falsely and dangerously called at the time. As a result of the fires Forests Commission Victoria gained additional funding and took responsibility for fire protection on all public land including State forests, unoccupied Crown Lands and National Parks plus a buffer extending one mile beyond their boundaries on to private land. The practice of controlled burning to minimize future risk was officially sanctioned and encouraged and sweeping changes including stringent regulation of burning and fire safety measures for sawmills, grazing licensees and the general public were also introduced.

14.01.2022 We hope you have a safe New Year’s Eve Please don’t drink and drive and remember the fire restrictions in place.

13.01.2022 No De Brie today the demo has been delayed.

12.01.2022 FIRE PUMP MAINTENANCE / CHECKS Hi everyone hands up if you own a fire pump or fire fighting equipment / trailer unit When was the last time you started it DONT GET CAUGHT when you have a fire at your property and the pump won't start regular checks are needed starting your pump once a month is a good check ... FYI pumps must have water in them or damage will occur to the pump shaft seal At our station we check our pumps once a week as we don't have a lot of fire calls so our equipment is regularly checked If you have any questions about fire pump maintenance please give me ring on 0428223361 Cheers Mark bruerton Yinnar sth captain
