With COVID restrictio...ns, we have been unable to hold our regular fundraising events and the consequences have been dire: we are quickly running out of money to keep our school and services operational. So we are trying something different and hoping you will get on board. It is a 24 hours fast on 14th October. All you have to do is pay 20 to participate (or US$25, AUZ $30, and CAD $30) - you don't need to ask others for sponsorship and there is no pressure for you to fundraise; it's simply a 20 donation and 24 hours of hunger. Well because for many of our students, 24 hours without food is a grim reality. Our 1000 kids live in extreme poverty and for many, the only nutritious meal they eat each day is that which is provided at school as part of our School Meals Program. The Cambodian Government has closed all schools since April and while we have tried to deliver emergency food packages to the slums, we simply cannot keep up with the demand. Over the years our kids were gradually becoming stronger and healthier but are now are again suffering from malnutrition. The weight loss is visible and we are seriously concerned for many of our younger kids. Thankfully, schools are hoping to reopen on the 1st of November (which is coincidentally our 8th anniversary of opening Feeding Dreams) but with no fundraising events happening for the last 7 months, we are struggling to cover our rent, pay for our teachers wages and food & support programs. The aim is for 1000 people around the world to take part in this 24 hour fast which would raise us 20,000. This is an ambitious target, especially as people living here are also feeling the financial effects of COVID. That's why we are asking for 20 which is what most of us might spend on food for a day.
