23.01.2022 Meet our team! Joyce is the Paralegal Coordinator at the Youth Law Centre ACT and our Community Legal Education paralegal. On a daily basis, Joyce supervises tw...enty paralegals from the Australian National University and the University of Canberra and ensures the smooth running of the legal service by overseeing the flow of client work. Joyce loves working at the Youth Law Centre because she believes it is incredibly rewarding to assist young people through what is often a difficult and stressful time. She is inspired by her work colleagues and the Youth Law Centre paralegals who genuinely care about empowering young people as they navigate their legal issues. In her capacity as the Community Legal Education paralegal, Joyce also plays a very active role in educating our community. Every week she goes out to schools, shopping centres, community houses and detention centres around Canberra to speak about areas of law that commonly affect young people. One of her favourite things about her role is having the valuable opportunity to be proactive in the community and interact with young people to help them understand the law. When she is not conducting outreach around Canberra, Joyce is involved in organising and contributing to Legal Aid’s publications, promotional content and online events, such as our Youth Law Matters Handbook and our recent Racism & The Law Panel. Joyce also creates content for and co-manages all of Legal Aid’s social media accounts with the aim of ensuring that legal information is accessible online. If you are a young person with a legal issue, it’s a good idea to get legal advice as soon as possible. You can reach our Youth Law Centre by calling us on 6173 5410, or emailing us at [email protected], and one of our friendly paralegals can chat to you about your concerns and your options. Alternatively, if you are an organisation interested in Legal Aid offering free training or legal information sessions, email [email protected] or send our Facebook Page a direct message, and Joyce or one of her colleagues will get back to you.
