25.01.2022 #MeetMeMonday Hi, My name is Jamie and I am the Lead Educator in the Coolibah (3-4 year old) space. I often think back to a common question I was asked growing... up, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" Often my answers would differ each time, but one always remained the same, "A Teacher". Although I am not a Teacher I consider my job in this profession as an Early Childhood Educator as just as important. My journey in Early Childhood Education and Care began in 2015 working at a small Pre-school of 40 children in my home town - Murrumbateman. After working casually at Murrumbateman Early Childhood for 7 months I discovered a passion that I had not yet known, I surprised myself and knew that It was where I needed to be in life. In February 2016 I began my journey with YMCA Gungahlin ELC where I became immersed in my role and had a goal to make a positive impact on each child's life in some way, shape or form. I studied toward my Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care as I assisted in the Coolibah and Waratah space. On occasion, I covered Lead Educator roles across the centre and knew that it was something I would strive toward and hope to achieve in the near future. Once completing my Cert III I went on to further my growth and development and study my Diploma in ECEC. In September 2018 I was pleased to hear that I had reached a huge milestone in my career and was successful in becoming the Lead Educator in the Bottlebrush space. I have broadened my knowledge immensely throughout my journey so far and I will continue to do so as I am now completing the Early Childhood Australia Leadership Program. My personal philosophy is based highly around my forming and maintaining trusting and respectful relationships with children and creating strong partnerships with families to provide a high quality of education and care within our learning environments. Tarni and I work as a team to ensure we are providing each child with the individual support they need to grow and develop to their full potential during their time with us. I am greateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many amazing children so far and I look forward to what the future holds for me at YMCA Canberra. Thank you to Zoe and Camila who have provided me with constant support throughout my journey. You have assisted me in my continued growth in this wonderful profession and are leaders that I aspire to be one day. YMCA Canberra Children's Services YMCA Canberra YMCA Australia

17.01.2022 #MeetMeMonday Hello! My name is Mollie and I am the Lead Educator in the Bottlebrush (1-2 year old) space! I was born in the UK, in England and moved to Austral...ia with my mum in 2009, where we began a completely new life! My career with children began late 2015, I applied for a traineeship position at YMCA Gungahlin as soon as I finished my year 12 studies. At the time I didn’t realise just how much I would love my job and new career, and after a few months working in the sector I became so passionate about early education! I completed my Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and then went on to study my Diploma of ECEC! My first role within the centre was in the toddler space and have now had the opportunity to work within both infant spaces. I have a particular passion for infant care and education and have had the privilege of working alongside some highly talented and knowledgeable educators throughout my journey. I was beyond pleased when I was successful for my first Lead Educator position at the end of 2018 and I continue to learn and grow along with my team. My personal philosophy is based highly around relationships with children and families, as well as the freedom for children to explore and learn in an uninterrupted and self paced manner. I am grateful to Zoe and Camila for continuing to share their philosophies, ideas and knowledge with all of us at YMCA Gungahlin and I am exciting to further my professional knowledge and capacity within the Early Childhood profession! 17.01.2022 This week YMCA Gungahlin ELC celebrated and engaged with National Reconciliation Week. Throughout the week we recognised and reflected on how our Values of Hone...sty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility and Safety align with the vision and purpose of Reconciliation here in Australia. This Year’s National Reconciliation Week theme ‘Grounded in Truth: Walk Together with Courage’ saw us partner in a collaborative event with the ACT Government, Libraries ACT and other community organisations, members and families on a Tracks to Reconciliation walk throughout Ngunawal Land here in Gungahlin. The children and educators walked from our service to the Child and Family centre for the Acknowledgement of Country and a variety of experiences, to the Gungahlin Library for story time, over to Communities at Work for clay sculptures, back to the Child and Family Centre for a sausage sizzle and a visit form ACT police before heading back to the centre. An understanding of Reconciliation was strengthened for the children and educators as we gained a deeper knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culturual perspectives, both historical and contemporary being incorporated into our walk. We are continuing our journey and making a commitment to further embed indigenous culture within our day-to-day practices and decision making here at YMCA Gungahlin. We plan on continuing to build on our professional knowledge so that we can pass this knowledge on to the children with authenticity, respect and meaning. #NRW2019 #GroundedinTruth Libraries ACT YMCA Canberra YMCA Canberra Children's Services

07.01.2022 The children in one of our infant rooms learnt the etiquette on how to make a pot of tea, what herbs to collect, and the art of sitting down together. For the ...past month they have been incorporating this new found ritual into their day by having ‘Tea Time’. They have embraced this moment in their day, and the educators are seeing the benefits. The children are more relaxed and there is a sense of harmony around the table, not to mention herbal tea helps to maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit. (YMCA Canberra Mission) A ritual is a type of expressive, symbolic experience constructed of multiple behaviours occurring in a fixed, episodic sequence and that tends to be repeated over time
