24.01.2022 Place a poppy for Anzac Day. It was a YMCA volunteer who started the tradition of wearing a red poppy for remembrance, and this year we want to be able to continue this tradition. While we may not be able to attend a service or march, we can still show our gratitude and respect to Australians and New Zealanders who sacrificed so much for us. Follow the instructions in the link and display a poppy on your fence, window or mailbox on Saturday. https://bit.ly/2KACh77 #AnzacAtHome

13.01.2022 Michelle Bridges was 22 when she quit her bank job in Newcastle and headed to central Australia - to work for the Y in Alice Springs, because it was the cooles...t place.. It was a real hub for bringing people together for fitness, recreation and fun! I was there for 4 1/2 years and I loved my time at the Y - it was everything Id dreamed of. Her first class as a fitness instructor was with a group of Indigenous women. Joining Olympic Swimmer Mack Horton as keynotes at a forum of 180 YMCA recreation industry leaders in Melbourne today, Michelle recalled how she was empowered by her manager at the Y to bring an idea to life - to provide seated aerobics classes to residents in a nursing care facility. Thats the Y still - providing opportunities for young people to become leaders. CEO of YMCA Victoria Carolyn Morris outlined earlier that part of her vision for the Y was to create the future leaders of Australia. Who might our next Michelle Bridges or Mack Horton be? #OnlyWithTheY #YMCAVic See more

07.01.2022 Happy 175th birthday YMCA The YMCA was founded in on 6 June, 1844 during the Industrial Revolution in England, a time of great despair and poverty. George Wi...lliams, a truly inspired 22 year old, decided that something had to be done. He gathered together a few friends to form a society that met regularly to support each other and gain renewed strength in body, mind and spirit. The group called itself the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA). From its inception, through to the early 1900s, the focus was on the welfare of young men, and related social concerns. YMCA is now an iconic global youth movement, operating on every continent, in 120 countries, reaching more than 65 million people regardless of gender, race, religion or socio-economic background. #YMCA World YMCA See more

04.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day to all our Amazing mums xo

04.01.2022 At a time when the whole world is facing a crisis, today we are pausing to remember all those who have served, and are currently serving, in our armed forces. The YMCA was proud to play a small but important role supporting our ANZAC men and women during WW1, providing our diggers recreation opportunities, postal services, and home comforts. Our social centres were initially setup in military camps in Australia, before being stationed at every camp in every country where our ...troops served. We were privileged to bring them arts and crafts, games, sports, film screenings, and everything in between. Serving those who serve is a great honour, and it is important we remember the great sacrifice they made. Please take a moment today to reflect and pay tribute to the extraordinary people who risked everything to give us everything. Lest we forget.

01.01.2022 YMCA history of the Red Poppy - 101 years ago, Moina Michael, who worked for the American YMCA, read Lieutenant Colonel McCrae's poem just before the Armstice, ...and was so moved by it that she wrote a poem in reply and decided to wear a red poppy. At a meeting of YMCA secretaries, held in November 1918, she talked about the poem and her poppies, and Anna Guérin, the French YMCA secretary, started selling poppies to raise money for widows, orphans, and needy veterans and their families. We Shall Keep the Faith by Moina Michael, November 1918 Moina Michael Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields, Sleep sweet - to rise anew! We caught the torch you threw And holding high, we keep the Faith With All who died. We cherish, too, the poppy red That grows on fields where valor led; It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies, But lends a lustre to the red Of the flower that blooms above the dead In Flanders Fields. And now the Torch and Poppy Red We wear in honor of our dead. Fear not that ye have died for naught; We'll teach the lesson that ye wrought In Flanders Fields. #LestWeForget
