23.01.2022 Championship 1 & 2 results 17 Oct. 2020 A total of 27 boats faced the starter on a long northwesterly triangular course. A healthy shifty breeze from 12 to 18 knots with some gusts to 25 knots saw some exhilarating rides & a few swims. A few showers didn't detract from the enjoyment and there were lots of tired smiles at the end of the day. We canned the sausage sizzle due to the rain that was falling & the very strong breeze. Lots of fun. 21.01.2022 ACT Dinghy Championships Day 2 - 1 November 2020 photos
21.01.2022 ACT Dinghy Championships - Final Results Today was a much better day than yesterday, no rain, warmer & a more wind. The day warmed to 21 C & the wind was mainly from the southeast, swinging south, ranging from 8 to 16 knots with some solid gusts of 25 knots at times. Three races back to back with lots of hard work from all sailors. The start line had a port bias & a few brave sailors made the most of a pin end port start when they could get away with it. A bit of drama at ti...mes. After one race yesterday, a total of four races meant all races count and there are no drops. The free sausage sizzle was warmly received by all sailors at the end of the racing & that was followed shortly after by the presentation. An early finish had all sailors away early after a tiring day. Lots of tired smiles. Final results Division 1 - Lightweight Sharpies 1st "Smoke" Michael Forster (1,1,2,2), 2nd "Bangin' Sheets" Noah Taylor (4,2,1,1), 3rd "Every Frog Has its Day" Chris Ablett (2,4,4,3) Division 2 - Dinghy yardstick <117 1st "Midnight Hour" Monty Lang (2,1,1,1), 2nd "Smashing Pumpkins" Michael Hitchens (4,2,2,2), 3rd "Raptor" Rohan Armstrong (1,6,5,3) Division 3 - Dinghy yardstick >117 1st "Southern Aurora" Geoff Comfort (1,1,1,1), 2nd "Jonquil" Ron Thompson (dnf, 2,2,2), 3rd "Pacer" Angus McLaughlin (3,3,4,3) Division 4 - Hansa 303 1st "Ability" Gerda Lambeck (dns,1,1,1) 2nd "George" Bronwyn Ponder (dns,2,2,4), 3rd "Hypatia" Deborah Paton (dns,4,3,2) Division 5 - Small Dinghy 1st "Hike" Edward Alexander (dns,dnf,1,1) 2.4mR Class 1st "Morna VII" (1,2,1,1), 2nd "Meaning of Life" Peter Ottesen (5,5,2,2), 3rd "Advance Australia" Peter Warren (2,4,3,ret) Heron Class 1st "Lost in our Reflection" Hugh Tait (1,1,2,1), 2nd "O for Awesome" Paul Armstrong (dnf, 2,1,2), 3rd "Non Sequitur" Chris Sant (2.5,5,3,3) Spiral Class 1st "Sirocco" Tim Vandervoort (2,2,1,4), 2nd "Dangerous W'en Wet" Wendy Berlecky (3,4,3,1), 3rd "Ruff Stuff" John Franklin (5,3,5,2) Laser Class (full rig) 1st "Dash" Richard Longbottom (1,2,4,1), 2nd "Gladiator" Shane Gaddes (3,1,2,4), 3rd "Misties Fool" Tony Ryan (5,5,1,2) Laser Class (small rig) 1st "Interceptor" Dillon McGrath (1,1,2,1), 2nd "Moss-quito" Alex Moss (2,3,6,3), 3rd "ADFA 1" Alexis Chabrol (3,2,3,6) Flying Fifteen Class 1st "Up Ship Creek" Mark Holmes, 2nd "Super Snabb" Matthew Mitchell (2,1,2,3), 3rd "ffirsty work" Mark Horton (4,3,3,2) Full results are on our website here https://canberra.ymca.org.au//the-sailing/events-regattas/

18.01.2022 Tuesday Twilight Sailing has been CANCELLED for tonight due to high winds and dust storms.
18.01.2022 Results - Pointscore A - Races 11 & 12 Saturday 21 November A light northeasterly of zero to 5 knots swinging north made for an interesting sail with the start near Weston Park & the 1st mark near Spinnaker Island. The first race took a long time for some as the wind dropped out at inopportune times. The second race had the legs shortened with overall race times around the same with an extra leg with the breeze in most of the race. There were lots of close finishes in Race... 2 with the 2.4mRs & the sharpies having particularly close finishes. Division 1 - Multihulls 1st "Cut/Copy" Rohan Nicol (2,2), 2nd "Bad Attitude" Peter Wood (1,3), 3rd "Scratchy" Leigh Nielsen (5,1) Division 2 - small dinghy yardstick >114 1st "Serenity Now" Bronwyn Ponder (1,1) Division 3 - 2.4mR 1st "Fab Babs" Colin Brown (1,5), 2nd "Blue Gum" Mark Durnan (4,3), 3rd "Tumbleweed" Simon Dunstone (7,1) Division 4 - large dinghy yardstick <114 1st "Smoke" Michael Forster (4,1), 2nd ""Deep Sea Racing Prawn" Kevin Rosenbaum (2,3), 3rd "The Chilli Factor" Grant Warner (5,2) Full results are available on our website https://cdn.revolutionise.com.au//fil/lanlcbsvvyu5w2dw.pdf

17.01.2022 ACT Multihull Championships - Day 1 - Results (Provisional) so far For a change there was plenty of wind this afternoon with 20 knots building to 25 knots with a few bigger gusts. The 18 boats entered had lots of thrills and exhilaration with a little heartache for some with capsizes and one broken mast. The safety boats were kept busy. Then the storm front came through, luckily all boats ashore and most boats had finished unrigging. Paper Tigers... 1st "Shockwave Supernova" Tony Hastings (1,1,2), 2nd "People Eater" Neil Waterman (2,2,1), 3rd "Scotch Mist" Paul Scotland (3,3,dnc) 14ft cats 1st "Cat-a-Clysm" Nick Ward (2,1), "Pointed Reply" Rodney Anderson (1, dnc) Large cats 1st "My Lady" Mick Colecliffe (1,2,1) 2nd "Godzilla III" Glen Seeley (5,3,2), 3rd "Kiss" Mark Colecliffe (ret,1,dnc) More fun and excitement tomorrow with forecasts of more of the same.

07.01.2022 ACT Dinghy Championships - day 1 A very wet & overcast day greeted the 71 boats entered, however, enthusiasm abounded and a lot of boats were rigged & on the water for the 12.30 start. There were three back to back races scheduled and after lots of changing wind directions & threats of storms the racing got underway in a light northeast breeze. The rain commenced not long after the start & the wind slowly changed direction to the southeast, lightening off. The race was sho...rtened and racing for the rest of the day abandoned. Lots of wet & cold sailors were happy with that decision. The forecast for tomorrow's racing is looking a lot more promising.
