22.01.2022 At a time when the whole world is facing a crisis, today we are pausing to remember all those who have served, and are currently serving, in our armed forces. The YMCA was proud to play a small but important role supporting our ANZAC men and women during WW1, providing our diggers recreation opportunities, postal services, and home comforts. Our social centres were initially setup in military camps in Australia, before being stationed at every camp in every country where our ...troops served. We were privileged to bring them arts and crafts, games, sports, film screenings, and everything in between. Serving those who serve is a great honour, and it is important we remember the great sacrifice they made. Please take a moment today to reflect and pay tribute to the extraordinary people who risked everything to give us everything. Lest we forget.

22.01.2022 On Saturday we will honour those who served in wars and military operations. Leave a message for fallen soldiers, veterans and others who serve during wartime. Using chalk write Lest we forget or We will remember them on your driveway. You can also draw a poppy to commemorate the Anzacs. Show us your message in the comments. #AnzacAtHome

08.01.2022 At the Y, we always want children and young people to feel safe and be safe. We are so grateful to our staff for the important work they are doing during this pandemic in keeping all children and young people safe, including teaching our children and young people about good hygiene. To help our communities, we have developed this short animation

08.01.2022 Place a poppy for Anzac Day. It was a YMCA volunteer who started the tradition of wearing a red poppy for remembrance, and this year we want to be able to continue this tradition. While we may not be able to attend a service or march, we can still show our gratitude and respect to Australians and New Zealanders who sacrificed so much for us. Follow the instructions in the link and display a poppy on your fence, window or mailbox on Saturday. https://bit.ly/2KACh77 #AnzacAtHome

04.01.2022 YMCA history of the Red Poppy - 101 years ago, Moina Michael, who worked for the American YMCA, read Lieutenant Colonel McCrae's poem just before the Armstice, ...and was so moved by it that she wrote a poem in reply and decided to wear a red poppy. At a meeting of YMCA secretaries, held in November 1918, she talked about the poem and her poppies, and Anna Guérin, the French YMCA secretary, started selling poppies to raise money for widows, orphans, and needy veterans and their families. We Shall Keep the Faith by Moina Michael, November 1918 Moina Michael Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields, Sleep sweet - to rise anew! We caught the torch you threw And holding high, we keep the Faith With All who died. We cherish, too, the poppy red That grows on fields where valor led; It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies, But lends a lustre to the red Of the flower that blooms above the dead In Flanders Fields. And now the Torch and Poppy Red We wear in honor of our dead. Fear not that ye have died for naught; We'll teach the lesson that ye wrought In Flanders Fields. #LestWeForget
