I've lived in Bacchus Marsh for over 26 years and I'm participating in the Heart Foundation 42k MyMarathon 2020. This challenge is something I would normally just walk away from truly believing that I would be wasting my time, I would embarrass myself and no one would support me, but for some reason I thought what the hell. Heart Disease has a really deep meaning to me and my family, my father was diagnosed with Heart Disease at the age of 52, I was 15 at the time and didn't really understand why he was kept in hospital for such a long time. The prognosis was not promising and it didn't give dad much hope, but they didn't know dad, he was no pushover and showed what determination, strength and stubbornness can do. At 44 it hit me; gone from invincible to vulnerable within minutes, it was a normal day that's the way it began, and it hit me the pain and a heavy weight in my chest. I went to the local doctor just to find out what it was, within 24 hours I was in hospital and recovering from a heart attack. I thought it would never happen to me I was overweight, a smoker and lived in denial, then came the lessons and the battle to lose weight give up smoking and try to stay healthy. Knowing your body is the key to fighting Heart Disease, at 52 I didn't feel right getting angina pain and breaking out in cold sweats just sitting in my office chair, I was getting close to having another Heart Attack, this time it was building. Even though you're a survivor from your first attack you really believe this will never happen to you again but no, I spent 5 weeks in hospital waiting to have bypass surgery in total lock down "that's what it felt like" I would get visits from the best people in the world my loved ones, being told that I was lucky by the Surgeon I caught it when I did but it didn't feel that way. The Surgeon explained my Heart was building up for a fatal Heart Attack, one I would never walk away from. After waiting 5 weeks in the hospital for my quintuple bypass surgery, and waking up with all these tubes and wires sticking out of my chest, I had to spend another 7 days in the hospital in lock down, it took a further 6 weeks at home to recover and begin my road map of build up my strength back up. So 2020 Lock down reminded me of that time of being vulnerable, scared and wondering if anything will ever be normal again. So Yeah I'm Doing the Heart Foundation 42k Marathon, hope you can support me.
