20.01.2022 Are your children feeling anxious about being back at school? Are they tired of not being able to spend time with their friends? Do they have a million questions about this strange time we are living in? ... Are they worried about their health and the health of their loved ones? It is a time of so many unknowns, so many questions, so much anxiety and so much sad news. Now, more than ever children need yoga and mindfulness. They need to learn breathing techniques and self care. They need to be reminded that looking after their own well-being and their mental state is within the realms of what they can control. With this in mind, Yoga Play will be starting our zoom sessions on Saturday 9th May at 9.30am. And watch this space....tomorrow, the details of a super special first session for the term will be released!

16.01.2022 I am certain I am not the only parent to have experience a techo-tantrum! It's often easy to take the path of least resistance and allow too much technology. It can be a handy babsitter and certainly has some pro's but when we realise (often to late) that we need to take action as things are getting out of control... It can lead to a massive melt down. The wonderful Maggie Dent shares some useful tips!

07.01.2022 Emotional independence, this was the theme of our class on Saturday. We learnt that we are in charge of our own happiness and that we should not take on the emotions of those around us! We learnt skills and techniques to prevent this from happening. Positive mantras, observing our thoughts and presence. ... How we choose to respond to negative events lies within solely within ourselves. The power and freedom is ours and ours alone!

01.01.2022 So often our minds are our own worst enemy. A small insignificant event, glance, comment or action can be turned into something "catastrophic" that we lie awake at night worrying about as we create our own version of events. We put thoughts and words into the offending persons mind and mouth. We tell people this "story" and stew over the events and continue to perpetuate our assumed version, causing more worry, anxiety and stress for ourselves. While the person or people r...esponsible for these actions are none the wiser and happily carry on with their life, not realising the error of their ways. Yes, often their actions are intentional and hurtful, but often they arent. It is our own perceptions that take over. Has this happened to you? Have you created your own story and perpetuated it by reliving it over and over in your head? I know I have! I have also been on the other side of this story and have caused the hurt unintentionally and sometimes intentionally (no-one is perfect!!) So, how does mindfulness help us in these situations? By practicing mindfulness, we re-train our minds to shut out the busy, the self doubt, the negativity, the words and actions of others and allow ourselves to be truly focused on the present, the here and now, the positive affirmations that we need to hear and the things that we are grateful for. Thus changing the way we view our circumstances, ourselves and the actions of others. Being able to control our minds and our thoughts is a powerful tool. Learning how to do so is the first step to improving your mental health. So the next time you find your mind dwelling on a situation and you feel your stress levels rising, your heart beating faster, a lump in your throat and anger at the pit of your stomach. Try to find a quiet place to be and practice mindfulness. It might take some time and your mind will almost certainly keep racing back to the damaging thoughts you had before but with regular practice you will be well on your way to controlling your mind. Dont be too hard on yourself. If you new to this, it will take time before you can get through a session without a 100 random thoughts popping into your head. Eventually it will happen less (but youll possibly never get through a session without thoughts - we are human after all!) until you are able to drop into a mindful moment and enjoy the peace and tranquility you get to experience there.
