18.01.2022 Rainy Day Yoga! Breathe ~ Stretch ~ Re-energize Come & Join us tonight @ 6pm

18.01.2022 When we practice yoga, we start to realise many things about ourselves and in ourselves, including the obstacles that distract our minds. The Yoga sutra explains: vydhi styna saaya pramda-lasya-avirati bhrntidarana-alabdha-bhmikatva-anavasthitatvni citta-vikep te antary 30 It translates as: ... Disease; mental inaction/laziness; doubt; carelessness (making the same mistakes over and over); laziness/heaviness of the body; inability to withdraw, compose, and rest from sense pleasures; hallucination; inability to reach, grasp, or comprehend the goal; and inability to remain grounded are the obstaclesthese are distractions to the mind. When we start a daily morning practice, these are the obstacles that often appear On many mornings, these obstacles used to arise in me and I also used to find myself trapped in them- heaviness in the body, thinking, I dont think I am feeling the best..., (mental laziness... when nothing was wrong with my health), I dont think this posture is suited to me, I dont think I will ever be able to do this posture (doubts), etc... The hardest challenge that many people face in practicing Ashtanga yoga is not the asana (postures) practice itself. In fact, the asana practice of Ashtanga yoga asanas are accessible to all the levels of practitioners who learn them gradually over time. The hardest part, especially in the beginning, is to change your lifestyle to put yourself on the mat every morning (6 days a week). In order to get up early in the morning, we will obviously need to go to bed earlier. We will need to choose better food to eat as you will feel everything you ate on that day when you stand on the mat next morning. We also start to realise how our emotions are affecting us because when we hold stress, anger and all the emotions, they will also emerge on the mat. This, I believe, is the biggest part of the practice. At the beginning, you may be able to be on the mat for 20 minutes. You may be able to come to the class and maybe complete some Suriyanamaskar, or do some breathing. Thats fine! Thats great because yes, postures have wonderful benefit to your body and mind, but the bigger and more meaningful practice here is that you are putting effort to change your life-style at your will and face the reality of yourself. It takes a long time to make the changes, but when you continue to put in effort, it will happen. This is tapas. It creates the internal fire/heat in us and purifies us. Then we can start our deeper practice and walk on our yoga path. Lets begin the journey
