24.01.2022 Im so excited about my very first mushroom harvest I wanted to share it with you Growing your own food at home adds an extra layer of nourishment I do love growing food - no doubt I've been inspired by my dad who is a talented gardener - a real green thumb ... As kids our backyard was a food forest - I remember picking the juiciest nectarines, enjoying eating them whilst still warm from the sun and theres absolutely nothing like the flavour of a home grown tomato Do you grow some of your own food? what do you have in your garden? Although eating fresh wholesome food plays a big part in our health & wellbeing, its important to remember that we can receive nourishment not only from the food we eat, but also the environment we spend time in, the people in our lives and even our own thoughts - the inner self talk has the potential to nourish or poison us When youre on the mat this week include some nourishing thoughts to self CLASS THIS WEEK Tuesday 6:00pm YANG (In Studio & Online) Tuesday 7:30pm YIN (In Studio) Wednesday 4:30pm QUICK TUNE UP (Online) Thursday 6am SUNRISE (Online) Thursday 9am YIN (In Studio & Online) Friday 10:30am GENTLE (Online) Saturday 7:30am ASHTANGA (In Studio & Online) Saturday 10:30am FLOW (In Studio)

20.01.2022 Yoga practice has the potential to go way beyond the shapes we make, the strengthening and lengthening ....... Its a way of connecting to self and others, nature and the world around us To remind us to be kind, grateful, content, to connect to the sweet nectar of playful joyfulness without the shackles of preconceived ideas or expectations and then taking the essence of that off the mat and into our lives, the interactions we have with others and the world around us The ...Eight Limbs of yoga are a roadmap for when we step on the mat and also to guide us through daily life We have been exploring the eight limbs in class this week and for those of you curious to know a little more and delve into some self study here's a little more information.... #1 YAMA The 5 Yamas are social observances * Ahimsa / non harm * Satya / truthfulness * Asteya / Non stealing * Brahmacharya / Moderation * Aparigraha / Non greed #2 NIYAMA The 5 Niyamas are personal observances * Saucha / Self Purification * Santosha / Contentment * Tapas / Self - Discipline * Svadhyaya / Self Study * Ishvara Pranidhana / Surrender #3 ASANA Yoga Postures #4 PRANAYAMA Regulation of life force energy via the breath #5 PRATYAHARA Withdrawal of the senses #6 DHARANA Concentration #7 DHYANA Meditation #8 SAMADHI Union with the true self A very short description of Patanjalis 8 limbs (Ash - Tanga) Here are some links that delve a little deeper https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashtanga_(eight_limbs_of_yoga) https://www.yogajournal.com/practice/the-eight-limbs

15.01.2022 I have fond memories of Sunday morning Ashtanga practices with my teacher and yoga community. When I started teaching, I only taught Ashtanga half primary series, as at the time it was my choice for self practice. With the passing of time, my curiosity and changing needs has taken my personal practice in lots of different directions.... My personal practice now takes the shape of what I need on the day, it might be a Yoga Nidra, a Tantric Hatha practice, some delicious Yin Yoga nourishment or an Ashtanga practice. Ashtanga yoga still feels like coming home, the rhythm is so soothing for mind, washing away stress, worries and concerns and firmly planting me in the here and now Now at YOGA GARAGE I only offer one Ashtanga yoga session each week, our Saturday 7:30am Primary series class is a joy, and the community that gathers each week to join me feel like family Although this isn't a practice I would recommend for beginners, if you have a regular yoga practice and would like to build some heat and strength through mindful movement - consider coming along tomorrow! We will focus on Finishing postures this week which include urdhva dhanurasana (upward bow pose), salamba sarvangasana (shoulderstand), sirsasana (headstand) and utpluthih (uplifting pose) Along the way I will offer variations so you can work at a level thats appropriate for your needs See you on the mat yogis

14.01.2022 One of the big things that has changed for me as a teacher since going online with classes is the scheduling for our YOGA GARAGE online classes group The day before each class I do a little post letting students know what our focus will be and my intention for the practice. In the past you have all just rocked up to class - from your perspective I suppose it's been a lucky dip scenario - you never know what we'll get up to......... Tonight whilst scheduling tomorrow mornings yin practice I thought perhaps you might like to know what r tomorrows yin class will look like Yin Yoga: HEALTHY RHYTHMS (9am - 10am Thursday 23rd July) In this delicious practice we will work along the back lines of the body, supporting our body/mind process of digesting life experiences and encouraging healthy rhythms Postures will include cuddle, cat tail twist, half butterfly, banana & supported bridge Handy Props Bolster Blanket Block If you'd like to join us in the studio for this one, there are still a couple of spots open - BOOKINGS essential (hit the BOOK NOW button right here in FaceBook) See you on the mat x Karen

13.01.2022 Having spent last weekend with my teacher, my cup is full and I am overflowing with gratitude for my teacher, this practice, all the teachers that have come before us to carry on the tradition and teachings, for the community that sits with me as a teacher and a student <3 How will what I learned over the weekend filter into classes this week? To be honest I don't know yet...... walk with me and we shall discover together... 13.01.2022 What do you like about yourself? Could you write a list of qualities, skills, attributes that you are grateful for? That you are proud of? OK, how did you go?... What I have noticed is that often we find it much easier to think about the things we DONT like about ourselves. LETS FLIP THIS!!! Treat yourself with thoughts and actions that are nourishing, kind and loving - in the same way you would treat someone you love and care for x Keep in mind that, when you practice yoga, youre not practicing to improve yourself. You are perfect. The practice is there to help you know that. - Maty Ezraty OM SHANTI, peace, peace, perfect peace XX Karen YOGA GARAGE SCHEDULE THIS WEEK (21st - 27th September) Tuesday 7:00am ASHTANGA SHORT PRACTICE (Online) Tuesday 6:00pm YANG FLOW (In Studio & Online) Tuesday 7:30pm YIN (In Studio) Thursday 6am SUNRISE (Online) Thursday 9am YIN (In Studio & Online) Friday 10:30am GENTLE (Online) Saturday 7:30am ASHTANGA (In Studio & Online) Saturday 10:30am FLOW (In Studio)

12.01.2022 Straight after last Saturdays class we hooked up our faithful old camper trailer (we bought it second hand back in 1994) and headed off for the Yorke Peninsula for a short winter camping adventure The days were sunny (even if it was pretty chilly at night and early morning) and many an hour was spent #beach combing with Lily Much fun was had with only a few minor setbacks, like the time Lily tripped on her way through the tent door and put a hole in the canvas.... Checking out the various bush #camping sites on both sides of #Yorkes, so much sitting in the car left my hips feeling like they were a bit stiff SO This weeks classes will focus on #hips and #legs I look forward to seeing you on the mat in the studio or through the screen for a whole lot of leg love - well strengthen and lengthen! 11.01.2022 How often do you just sit? Without looking at your phone Quiet time to observe nature, to reflect, to be, is more than a gift, it is essential to maintaining our physical and mental wellbeing.... Im too busy theres too many things I need to do are something Im sure weve all felt or said more than once. BUT, can we afford not to take precious time to restore a sense of calm to our nervous system? I dont think so. Give yourself permission to take a short break (3 - 5 minutes if possible) twice a day to breathe consciously. Sit somewhere quiet, preferably in the fresh air, and focus on creating smooth even breathing. This short pause will help to regulate your nervous system towards calm We may not be able to control the swirling chaos around us, but this will help to create a calm stillness within # PHOTO of Lily, our yoga dog extraordinaire, doing just that on our weekend wanderings to the Yorke Peninsula (where there is an abundance of quiet and calm) YOGA GARAGE SCHEDULE THIS WEEK (1st - 6th September) Tuesday 6:00pm YANG FLOW (In Studio & Online) Tuesday 7:30pm YIN (In Studio) Thursday 6am SUNRISE (Online) Thursday 9am YIN (In Studio & Online) Friday 10:30am GENTLE (Online) Friday 11:20am GUIDED RELAXATION (Online) Saturday 7:30am ASHTANGA (In Studio & Online) Saturday 10:30am FLOW (In Studio)

03.01.2022 Yoga tradition tells us Yoga is the ability to rest in our own nature In this state we are complete How do we get to this state? The foundation is PEACE There are obstacles in our path.but the many practices of yoga, asana, pranayama, meditation to name a few, help to slow the spinning, the busyness of thoughts (monkey mind) so that we might catch a glimpse of quiet, of peace (also known as the no spin zone)... Our Spring yoga retreat last weekend offered just that, an environment that welcomed quiet, practices to tame the monkey mind, and we came away feeling restored Im so grateful for all of the elements that came together to create a perfect environment for peace.
