24.01.2022 What adults can learn from kids ? Plenty !

24.01.2022 One mat, endless possibilities...

24.01.2022 Working as a preschool teacher is the dream job for any kids yoga teacher ! except having fun while playing with the children it gives you the opportunity to discover new games. As every week before, we continued with our Wednesday's Yoga class .As soon as I arrived some of the children approached and asked if we are going to have yoga today ? "Sure !" I replied, "We are going to have a special lesson today".... So after lunch we went upstairs and started with some breathing exercises and a few poses that we have already learnt. Afterwards we played the joyful "yoga catch" and then I introduced a new game that I have just recently created - the "Yoga roulette". In this game the children spin the roulette and each number has a different yoga pose :-) See more

24.01.2022 Hi mates, So what's the story behind Yogi on a journey (the Kids Yoga book I’m working on) and how I met my first students ? I was working in the telecom industry for over a decade. My role relayed heavily on communication and I knew that at that stage it will be nearly impossible for me to do the same role in English. Basically, I realized that the universe is telling me in his own way that I would be better off to find a different career path before moving to Australia.... My journey to become a kids yoga teacher began Long story short, in order to get a formal certificate I had to run an actual Kids Yoga class. Luckily, my friend Hilla Malinovsky volunteered her gorgeous girls and her lovely home to what became my first Kids Yoga class. That was more than 6 years ago, and its funny looking at these photos cause I know exactly what I taught them ! The lesson was about the Sun salutation flow, through a story that years later will transform into Yogi on a journey. BTW: I’m thinking of ways to make the book a bit more fun and considering adding a page at the end with a Mandala that the children (or their parents) can color. Similar to the Mandala that Hila’s daughters are proudly presenting. Potentially the owner of the book should be able to photo-copy that page to have multiple copies but not sure if perhaps a link to a PDF download would be better ? What do you think ?

22.01.2022 Final class of the year - kids yoga graduation ;-)

21.01.2022 Sometimes, all you need is music & fabrics ! #Practicing breathing with the children

20.01.2022 The children practiced their breathing with a spinning wheel! In a Yoga practice, the art of controlling your breath is known as pranayama. Prana is your energy and life force. Ayama simply means control. Prana+Ayama=controlling our life force. This powerful practice promotes mental clarity and physical calm, plus awareness and presence. Pranayama is an incredibly effective, important tool to teach children so they can control their energy, their mood, and their impulses.

19.01.2022 Ginger man yogi ! Another way we can teach children the yoga way.. I just love the "warrior III" one ;-)

16.01.2022 Hi Yogis, What kind of yoga games do you play with the parachute? I usually prepare the parachute before the children enter the room, and I hid under every colour a yoga pose in advance.... When the children enter I ask them to pick one of the parachute's colors and sit next to it. We start the lesson as usual, with: - Namaste - Sharing time A short question such as: What is your favorite food, color, yoga pose, fruit, movie etc (where everyone get their chance to speak). - Breathing exercise - Circle warm up - Sun salutation through a story (I am in the process to transform this into a kids yoga book called "Yogi on a Journey" ) - For our Yoga game, I ask the children to reveal what yoga pose they have under their colour? Each do they pose, after that I play music and the children walk around the parachute. As the music stops, they reveal again their yoga pose and so on.. More games that we play with it are: "beach ball", "waves", "running under" etc.. - For relaxation we all get under the parachute (like a tent) and have a rest. - We end the lesson as usual with Namaste.

09.01.2022 Happy Saturday ! Today I would like to share some ideas to one of the most enjoyable yoga lessons... One that I usually set up for the last lesson of the term/year - The Yoga Obstacle Course !... Bear in mind that you need at least 10-15 min’ to prepare the studio in advance. I divide the children into pairs of two and the most important instruction for them is: Remember to organise each stop before you will continue to the next one. What do you add to your Obstacle course ? Check the first photo to see my list * For those of you who teach through Zoom: Have you think to send a list of stations so the children and their parents could play at home ?

09.01.2022 Hi friends! One mantra that I hear a lot as a preschool teacher is: "Sharing is caring" And with that in mind I started sharing some of my best kids Yoga game ideas a few weeks ago.... To my delight, other colleagues around the world were generous enough to share some of their best ideas with me And so, with their permission, I am happy to share two of their Yoga games ! These are the most fantastic, creative and fun Yoga games I came across: 1.) Kids Yoga Jenga By Oli Howker Super fun Yoga game that also takes a lot of mindful concentration. Check out this brilliant video Oli made and follow her instructions (in the first comment). * You can also find more brilliant yoga activities and easy to follow videos at Oli's Instagram page: @balancekids_yoga 2.) Jokega (yoga jokes) By Nicole Zimbler the founder of Yotism - Yoga for Autism training school. Jokega (yoga jokes) is a great combination of Yoga and sense of humor Sometimes they are just really silly but good for those that like jokes. Some examples are: - ‘What kind of sense of humor does the yogi need? Answer: ‘A flexible one’. Then they can all do something that is flexible. - Here is another one: ‘Knock knock’ said the yogi standing on one leg looking pink in the face. 'Who’s there?’ 'A flamingo' And they all do flamingo pose. - And one more: ‘What did the cow say when coming into headstand?’ Ooooooommmm You can ask the students to come up with a Jokega for the next lessons and share it. Many thanks again to Oli and Nicole for the willingness to share their experience and wisdom with us all And if you come up with any Jokega that you are happy to share that would be amazing!

08.01.2022 Hi Friends, So, guess what ? I’m writing a kid’s Yoga book called Yogi on a journey !!! It will tell the tale of a young Yogi setting up to go on a journey and the adventures, challenges and friends he meets along the way. Kinda similar to the journey I’ve set to 6 years ago before we moved to Australia, not knowing what the heck I’ll even do here and had to create my own destiny.... Inspired by my first Kids Yoga teacher (Osnat Israeli) I have started writing Yogi on a journey with two purposes in mind: - Teaching children, in a fun and playful way, the benefits of the Sun Salutation, also called Surya Namaskar ,the most important and beautiful sequence in any flow of yoga practice. - Reminding them that we all, like the Sun, can shine our uniqueness in our own way. I’ll share more in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, have a peek in our lovely Yogi (illustrated by the magnificent Moran Reudor) and feel free to suggest a name for him.

08.01.2022 We are so excited from our new addition to our preschool - Medi Teddy Thank you for your Teaching

07.01.2022 Fishing yoga poses at the preschool.. ;-)

06.01.2022 About 3 years ago I decided to learn how to teach yoga for children. Fortunately I had some great teachers who inspired and gave me the right motivation to take upon this dream and make it come true. Since then I was teaching yoga for kids, families and even at the preschool during weekdays or like yesterday during "The international kids yoga day" ;-)

05.01.2022 You are only have two choices: love or Fear..

05.01.2022 *First stop in the book publishing journey* So, I had this idea for a book, called Yogi on a journey. During the last few weeks I have been sharing my story of How, Why and When I began to write it. ... But how does someone that is clueless about the book industry goes about making his dream a reality ? How do you get from an idea to a physical book? Not to mention in English and in a country that is still a bit foreign to me. Well, I had no idea as well. All I knew is that I would need a professional editor to help me to take the book to the next level. Someone who can guide me how to grab hold of the great things in the text and extend them further. Luckily, I had my partner (Bat-el Stoler) and her net of mates by my side. After chatting to her beloved book lover friend Kathryn Ferguson, we got a few tips on where to start. How I eventually found the editors "Flaying Pants Editing" for my book is a different story for a different post. (I will just say that I can only admire the mysterious ways the universe chose to match between my needs and their truly magnificent skills). Anyway, here are some highlights from their first report about Yogi on a journey manuscript: - Gentle story, full of love for the natural world. - A fable-like tale which is highly appealing. - A lovely way to explain yoga poses to children. - Strong and evocative imagery, well-matched to text. - Shlomi’s passion for Yoga and love of both the natural world and humanity shine through. Next step will be to send them my final version (after all the corrections and changes) for a Copy Edit (an edit service that gets your work ready for publication). How exciting is that !?

04.01.2022 I found here some great questions to start my yoga classes with ;-) http://parent.co/30-questions-to-ask-your-kid-instead-of-h/

03.01.2022 When life gives you lemons, make a Limoncello right ? Today I thought I’d share how I started my own Kids Yoga business Yoga4Kids - Sydney 5 years ago, in a new country after spending most of my adult life as an employee, and how it all connects to Yogi on a journey the kids yoga book I am currently writing. First stop was - proper training. ... Aussies love their certificates and no one will hire you without a legit teachers training. In addition to: First-aid, police clearance and insurance. I've already done a Kids Yoga teachers course in Israel but I needed to get a local one. I was lucky enough to participate in a Rainbow Kids Yoga course - with the Master himself Gopala Amir Yaffa. I got such a BOOST of motivation and excitement that I felt I was walking on clouds. I also did a profound Hatha Yoga teachers course with the energetic Yogi Amanda Fuzes who also offered me my first kids yoga teaching job! Sydney was booming with Yoga teachers and I wanted to focus on Kids Yoga, but being a new immigrant that could barely understand a single sentence in an Aussie accent, where do you even start ?? Bat-el Stoler was the puppeteer behind the scenes, sending tons of emails and flyers. We even made a business card with balloon animals that I handed out, but nothing really happened. It seemed like we weren't making any progress and everything was just so slow. But that also made us realize that Aussies work in a different rhythm and we needed to adjust ourselves to how they do things. Slowly, slowly, like baby steps, we started getting a bit more action and my week were starting to become busy with Family Yoga classes, Kids Yoga classes, in schools, preschools, birthday parties, you name it. I was over the moon! The kids seem to have fun while getting familiar with Yoga, I was happy, even the parents seemed to enjoy themselves. Well maybe not all of them. One day a family of two boys and a mum came to one of my sessions and it was obvious she wasn't new to Yoga and has been practicing for a while. The next day I got an email. And it was the first time I got a negative feedback about my Yoga teachings. She said that ‘the class was fun but lacking some Yoga fundamentals’. That feedback made me realize that I might have been missing something in my classes. And I knew exactly what it was. I recalled the Sun salutation flow I taught Hila’s daughters a year before and it was a life changing moment. Since then it became an integral part of my lessons and the rest is history. So, what I have learned except of making a Limoncello? Some of the most beautiful gifts come in ugly wrapping paper... Happy holidays!
