14.01.2022 Its the first week of January. New year resolutions are in full swing and off to a strong start! But its easy to lose momentum as the year progresses. I know this firsthand. When I was thinking about what I wanted out of 2020, I realised that I first need to create space for it. I cant simply add more goals to a list. I need to drop some things so that I can welcome in others. Last year felt like a blur, and as the year progressed I felt more and more unorganised. I...d leave the house in the morning and have to go back 2-3 times because Id forget something. Id pack more and more into my schedule and then have a breakdown about feeling overwhelmed. So one thing Im committed to this year is having 1 weeknight each week where I do absolutely nothing! No gym, no yoga, no teaching, n o t h i n g (except maybe a massage). This past Christmas break revealed just how tired I am, because Im always doing something, and I need to chill. I need to create space to breathe, veg out, potter around the house, be inspired, get organised and reset. Im curious, what are some of your resolutions this year? 10.01.2022 It begins... the slow and painful closure of local businesses that Ive supported and loved over the years. Another one posted this morning, and my heart just dropped . This pandemic hit them like a train. They tried to pivot and adapt, or conserve and ride it out, but could only hold on for so long. Its heartbreaking to see someones dreams end through no fault of their own. To see them quietly close the door on something that meant so much to them and was indeed a part of... them. I wonder what life will look like on the other side of this, when those local businesses that once felt so familiar to us are gone. There has never been a more important time to #supportlocalbusiness ! With QLD lifting more restrictions today, allowing for statewide travel, make the effort to get out and about and support independent cafes, restaurants, retail stores, accommodation providers and tourism companies that are just barely scraping by. If we want life to go back to normal, we need these businesses to not only survive, but thrive. . 07.01.2022 It took me years to appreciate the body/mind connection of yoga and to speak to myself in a kind and constructive way. In my restorative class this week, I spoke about the importance of embodying #satya, or truthfulness, in our yoga practice. Our yoga mat is a special place for internal reflection; to recognise and understand our habits, our feelings, our fears and so much more! But its also a very tempting place for the ego. Its far too easy to push past our physical... limitations or ignore our better judgement in pursuit of a pose. But when we do this, were no longer practicing truthfully. So, in essence, were no longer practicing yoga. Were just performing shapes on a mat. Practicing mindfully requires us to silence the ego and truly listen to what we need in that very moment. Sometimes its a sweaty vinyasa. Sometimes its child pose for as long as you damn well please! Nothing thrills me more than knowing I will have time alone to indulge in the things that I like, whether thats practicing yoga, reading, going for a walk, or pottering around the house cleaning. I have always been comfortable in my own company. The times I feel the most stressed, anxious or annoyed are the times when I havent had enough alone time. This I know about myself and accept 100%. Introversion can be misunderstood. Its not selfish to n...eed alone time, it is NECESSARY for some of us.
