23.01.2022 Yoga Teacher Training really is one of those life-defining experiences, where you create deep friendships, learn incredible new skills, dive deep into your body, your mind and your soul. We’ve been teaching teachers for 10 years now, and as our process evolves, the personal transformation is always the same. If you have had the chance to practice in a community class with a new teacher (a while ago now!) you may be infected by the passion and energy these new teachers ooze. Anyway, head to our website to find out more, and come chat to us in the studio!
23.01.2022 At the same time that we practice gratitude and contentment, like we mentioned last week, we also exert effort and dedication in all actions we make. We want to grow, we want to change, we want to evolve. So there is a beautiful dance happening between gratitude and growth, between contentment and effort. This stra reminds us of the importance of being proactive in life. We need to be doing something to change, to transform, to gradually let go of our cocoons so we can fly a...nd experience freedom. And we do this day after day, moment after moment. In anything we decide to do, there will be that which gives us pleasure and that which we want to avoid as much as possible. The concept of tapas tells us to commit to our practices, whatever they may be, even when our minds are screaming for us to do something else instead. The mention of supernatural powers also reminds us that these texts were written thousands of years ago, so to take their wisdom with an understanding of how the world works today
23.01.2022 Learning through presence today.

22.01.2022 The very first limb and first observance in you philosophy and often thought of as the most important is ‘Ahimsa’, which means ‘Non-violence’ or ‘non-harming’. (‘Himsa’ = ‘hurt’ and ‘a’ = ‘not’) In this sense, we’re talking about non-violence in all aspects of life. When we act with ‘Ahimsa’ in mind, this means not physically harming others, ourselves, or nature; not thinking negative thoughts about others or ourselves; and making sure that what we do and how we do it is ...done in harmony, rather than harm. Real transformation happens when we begin to practise yoga in all aspects of our being, so here are three ways to incorporate more Ahimsa in to your life: - we can all feel frustrated when our physical yoga practice doesn’t progress as quickly as we’d like. Remembering Ahimsa throughout our yoga practice guides us to let go of thinking negatively about body; accepting ourselves completely no matter how strong or flexible we are at this moment - A question a lot of people often ask is; ‘Do I have to be vegetarian or vegan now I’m practising yoga?’. While the guidance of Ahimsa advises not harming another living thing, and therefore suggesting abstaining from eating animals, there has to be a balance If cutting out certain things from your diet causes you harm, then it’s important to consider what works best. Can you change things a little so you’re supporting environmentally friendly companies? Eat organically? Maybe eat vegan or vegetarian at least a couple of times a week? Buy fairtrade? - finally Ahimsa means being mindful of our thoughts. When we think negatively, we send messages through our body that cause the fight or flight response, secreting cortisol (the ‘stress hormone’) in to the body. This lowers the immune system, making us more susceptible to illness and physical pain. It’s not just thoughts about ourselves we should be mindful of; Jealousy, judgement, anger and resentment while directed at someone else just come back to bite us by making us feel bad too.

19.01.2022 In a yoga class, first there is the experience of learning: awkwardness, self-consciousness, maybe jealousy, comparison. At some point there is a feeling of process, of flow, of mastery and calm. Of course this occurs in varying different physical and mental stages, according to the yogi, but it generally awakes a deep curiosity, something that is not generally touched on in a normal yoga class. What is this practice? Where did it come from? Who did it come from? We go deep i...nto philosophy, physical into asana, intellectual into anatomy, soften into yin. 200 hour yoga teacher training is the foundation; some people go out and share by teaching, others just use the wisdom to consolidate what yoga is for them. Everyone makes good friends, learns more about themselves, and gain abilities that go far beyond the yoga room. Starts 25th March 2021. See our website for more information.
18.01.2022 Our teacher trainers are so passionate about yoga, it generally makes up a rather large proportion of their every day conversations. They’ll happily sit down at the coffee shop after a class and devour questions, dive into inquiries, debate the controversies. The secret to their knowledge is in both the seeking but also in the skepticism. Question everything, of course, but be open to all. Teacher training is that opportunity to talk and to laugh, to explore and to challenge, to grow together from ancient wisdom to contemporary understanding. For more information, chat to any of our teachers or head to our website.
18.01.2022 An extremely effective way to open up your hips and twist your spine with one fell swoop. This variation on childs pose can often feel a little awkward, using a bolster under the front arm can alleviate some of this discomfort caused by shoulder tension. A pillow or blanket under your knees is a nice way to add longevity to a long childs twist too. Our advice is to go for 4 minutes on each side. Really drop into it. Rather than coming fully out in between, rest back in childs pose for a minute and then take the other side. Your hips can thank us later!
18.01.2022 Suitable for kids up to walking age, come along to this unheated practice for parents (not just mums!) and Bubs!
18.01.2022 Okay, so we haven’t started polar bear yoga yet but this is a post to let you know that when it’s really hot outside, we’ll be blasting the air con and cooling down our room appropriately.

16.01.2022 Whether seated in a simple cross-legged posture or balancing on your hands with one leg wrapped around the back of your head in eka pada sirsasana, this sutra is a reminder to tread the space between effort and effortlessness. Sthira teaches us to use muscular strength to hold the body upright (right side up or upside down). Sukha teaches us to avoid forcefulness, to move away from postures that cause pain, to seek to decrease patterns of tension in the body rather than reinforcing them. Simple to read, but you have to practice it to really understand it.

15.01.2022 What is it about the circumstances of life that makes us feel so small? What we mean by small is the belief that we are not good enough, strong enough, powerful enough to seek the things we want most. Some of us lack the most vital human necessity: Love. Yet we are too afraid to seek it or open our hearts to it because we feel small inside. Others sit in a job that makes their head hurt, their heart panic and their stomach ache, yet fear keeps them from finding a career tha...t is fluid, fulfilling and purposeful. Then there are people who fear mostly anything new or foreign because they lack the self-love, knowing and trust that is required to live a fulfilling life. Rumi points out that we are the universe in ecstatic motion. Each of us is comprised of the same atoms that make up this vast, powerful enigmatic universe we are the cosmos and we all hold the power in us to do so much more than we ever dreamed we could.
14.01.2022 Yoga - with constant practice, one can improve their physical body and mental attitude rapidly, thereby igniting the higher motives of making one’s self useful to himself and all mankind.
14.01.2022 Coming up this week with Gabby and Gerda - just a couple spots left - book through our website! 3 hour immersion with ceremonial grade cacao, breath work, sound healing and more. This will be a deeply nurturing, nourishing and transformative evening. Allowing you to connect to your inner child, your truth, receive guidance, release what has been holding you back, explore new ways of being, activate and fully step into your power. Ceremonial grade cacao is a gentle yet powerfu...l ancient plant medicine that (with intention) helps open the heart chakra allowing you to deeply connect to yourself. You will be guided though the power of the breath into altered states of consciousness. This will allow participants to access the subconscious mind and connect to parts of themselves that function outside of their daily awareness. Giving them the ability and see themselves and their patterns with a birdseye view, allowing new insights and clarity. Whilst simultaneously releasing suppressed energy and limiting beliefs. The healing sounds will help wash away layers of you that are carrying around that no longer serve you. The high vibrational, healing frequencies of the sounds will thaw and transmute negative thoughts, stagnant energy and heavy feelings. Anything that does not match this vibration will dissolve. These modalities combined will assist you to connect to your authentic self. Allowing you to begin experiencing well being on all levels; body mind and soul. Come back to the trueness of who you really are. Explore, connect, release, rise up.
14.01.2022 The human mind often tends towards that which is not working, or that which we do not have. This puts us in a rat race to be problem-solving or trying to get a better job, phone, partner, financial status or life-purpose. Life then becomes a pursuit of that which we do not have. And that which we do have, or that which we are already, gets hidden behind the curtains of the subconscious mind. This stra emphasizes the importance of practicing contentment, or gratitude. Yes, it... is a practice. For some people, this comes easily. For others, it takes constant practice to re-wire the mind to look at that which we already have, that who we already are, and more profoundly, gratitude for life itself. Being grateful does not mean that we don’t try to change our lives. It simply means that we pause every so often and remind ourselves of how wonderful life is. Gratitude, when practiced whole-heartedly (not just intellectually but emotionally as well), can connect people more closely and help us to see the ‘cup half full’ more often. It often leads us to see that what we have is enough, and who we already are is enough. We are worthy people just the way we are! Positive psychology, a modern branch of psychology which looks at creating a positive life, has conducted a lot of research on gratitude and lists this practice as one of the essential ingredients to a happy life. One beautiful practice that Tal Ben-Shahar suggests in his book titled ‘Happier’ is to write gratitude letters to people you love. Once written, visit the person and read them the letter out loud. There is no better gift that being told how much we are loved and appreciated!

12.01.2022 Akasha is the most subtle of the five elements in the Samkhya cosmology. And the sense associated with space is listening, which implies that it is the most subtle sense. There exist complete meditative practices that focus solely on listening as the technique; the anchor is sound. With practice, we can learn to discriminate minute details in all the sounds around us. We drop any judgments that this is a nice sound, or an annoying sound. Meditation centers are often very noisy places; there are lots of sounds to work with. Or we can go on retreat to a very quiet part of nature, but even here, there will be lots to hear.
11.01.2022 Surrender has a bad reputation. Just like attachment has been erroneously associated with inaction, surrender has been erroneously associated with being a doormat. Surrender is the ability to be completely where you are. Through surrender, we face what is directly in front of us. Eckhart Tolle says, hope is the enemy of the now. Surrender is seen as one of the easiest paths to freedom. Since nothing belongs to you, you are not building attachments or an I.
11.01.2022 This stra suggests that we re-think our values. Do we want to experience cheerfulness and peace? Then we need to stop and ask ourselves why we are searching for happiness and balance outside of ourselves. As we let go of that deeply-ingrained value, we begin the inner journey the drama-free one that takes us to our inner light.
10.01.2022 Please remember we are all going through these very challenging times together. Please remember we are a small business being supported by our lovely community. Please remember we are a Yoga studio providing the space for your practice. Please remember to be kind to yourself and others. And please please please be kind to our beautiful YBW Team. ... This too shall pass
09.01.2022 This reclined twist variation generally adds a little more leverage with the bottom leg acting like an anchor in the rotation. Shifting your knees further up or down should shift where in your spine you can feel this pose. The little caveat here is that if you are very mobile in spinal rotation, the bottom leg can actually act to hinder rotation, and you are better off either in a traditional twist or even with a bolster under your hips for a deep rinse.
08.01.2022 This one, late at night, when you’re just about to jump into bed, for 5-10 minutes. Keep your legs straight but relaxed and let gravity do the work. In the evening your fascia is more supple, your joints are lubricated and your muscles are warm, so this one should be perfect to calm things down.
08.01.2022 We’ve all experienced the benefit of hindsight, the experience of a challenging yoga class but reflecting with contentment in Savasana. The wisdom of time is that is allows healing and growth. Yoga stimulates and lights up this shift.
07.01.2022 This delicious thoracic spine release is seriously nourishing, so if you have a bolster or a block, that’s great! Otherwise anything else that is at a height and soft enough to be comfortable. Most of us do not do many backbends, so stop drop and supported bridge also works! Also Sphinx from your belly or even a supported fish pose, are all really nourishing to counter lots of time seated or hunched. Happy yinning!

06.01.2022 Coming up fast, and still a couple of spots left, this weekend join Truth Robinson, a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, on a bliss-filled two and a half day journey into the mysteries of the body's Chakra system. Over the 25 hours, we will delve into the Chakra anatomy and physiology, Chakra meditations, History of the Chakra system, many hours of delicious Yin Yoga practices and an aligning of your Chakra system. This program is open to dedicated yoga students who want... to explore Yin Yoga more or for Yoga teachers wanting to add Yin yoga in their teaching syllabus. 04.01.2022 As restrictions have eased and we can allow 40 people into our classes, we’ll be phasing out our online live yoga classes in 2021 to allow us to focus more on our incredible students in our classes. Our final live online class will be with Jenny on Thursday 10am! Stay tuned as we work on adding a permanent online platform in 2021. Thank you infinitely for supporting our yoga studio from afar in 2020.
03.01.2022 Whether you come from a background of no movement or intense exercise, we all have a different relationship to our physical and energetic body. Through yoga, we enhance that relationship, and for many of us create a new baseline of what ‘good’ feels like. For those that do a lot of exercise, yoga may teach us to calm, to hold and to notice the subtle pulsation of sensation; whereas those coming from stagnancy may relish in the full power of flow yoga. Whatever your passion, yoga can enhance the depth of connection to your physical self, your mental and emotional self, and that deeper, subtle energetic self. Come and try out our classes (both yin, yang and everything in between) for a whole month for just $30! Best bet is to sign up online.!
03.01.2022 We know this, it’s intuition, it’s the physical coolness when something feels wrong, or the lurch of the stomach, it’s the inner compass. Really, great teachers simply guide us to listen to ourselves.
02.01.2022 We are eagerly awaiting restrictions for yoga classes to ease in line with other indoor settings, but until then we’re on for 20 in each class. Weekend classes are our busiest, with many classes booked out a week in advance, however spots often open up as people make other plans. We still have a couple spots left in Saturday classes and Sunday yin. Have a great weekend everyone!
02.01.2022 Mindfulness isn’t about becoming a different person, a new person, or even a better person. It’s about training in awareness and understanding how and why you think and feel the way you do, and getting a healthy sense of perspective in the process.
02.01.2022 Self-reflection asks us to be continuously curious about ourselves, not our neighbors, partners or family members, but ourselves. It’s through being curious about who we are that we become more self-aware, and therefore are able to make appropriate changes to our lives. A lifetime commitment to curiosity is required on this path. There are many parts of ourselves that could use some shedding light on. The more light we shed on our ‘unknown’ places, the more we understand ourselves, and the closer we get to our source of light whatever you may call that. As we go on this exploration, we need honesty to find things that may not be so pleasant to feel, courage to feel them and acceptance to embrace them as part of who we are. Curiosity, honesty, courage and acceptance lead us gradually to experience our divine qualities.
01.01.2022 Huge! We have received confirmation that we can now have 40 in a class, abiding by the 2m2 rule! This is huge news for this humble studio and for the community as a whole as we have been struggling at times to get into certain classes! IMPORTANT: Online check in still required as we need to maintain an electronic register, and our cancellation policy still applies, as our numbers are still limited. It will mean a slow wind-down of our online classes - to be announced, but it ...will mean good vibes, great workshops and new masterclasses! Please remember to follow public health advice, i.e. if you feel unwell please stay home, and social distancing still applies!
