25.01.2022 A 2020 study published in the Medical Journal, Neurology, has shown that yoga as a complementary remedy to traditional medical interventions is an effective form of migraine treatment. We are SO excited to welcome Alicia to the Yoga Centred family and introduce this exciting new class to our weekly offerings. "My path along movement began when I moved to Vancouver at nineteen years old. It was here that a new friend I had made took me to my very first yoga class. From that point onwards my passion for movement was slowly ignited and I became immersed in trying every possible exercise, class and movement style out there. Through this I found the desire to have something more It wasnt enough to just do an exercise for the sake of it. It needed to have a heart, soul and sense of experience which I was able to discover through both yoga and Pilates. Whether that is through connected music or asana I am deeply committed to making moving the body a beautiful dance with the heart. I am also a deep believer in coming back to the basics as it is through the fundamentals I feel we can experience the core of both our Pilates and yoga practice. Through all of these elements it is my hope to bring classes that everybody can perform along with creating space for expression and love. Outside of movement my passions are spirituality, a great cappuccino and being out in nature."

15.01.2022 Breathing is something we do constantly, consciously or unconsciously, and it is one of the most vital functions of the body. In Yoga, Pranayama is conscious breathing and teaches us to use our lungs to their full capacity, while guiding us through our yoga and meditation practice. Prana: life force or energy source.... Yama: control or restraint. OR Ayama: To regulate. A regular practice of Pranayama not only energises our whole body, but prepares our mind for deep meditation. In his book Samadhi of Completion: Secret Tibetan Yoga Illuminations for the Quing Court, Fransoise Wang- Toutain states that Prana is the driving force of all the functions of the body, and that the various functions of the body such as swallowing, digestion, and physical movement were all reliant of the efficient functioning of the prana within the body. Pranayama can quiet the mind, making it a useful practice during times of stress, anxiety and intense emotions. Anyone can benefit practicing pranayama, and it is available to us at any place, at any time.
