19.01.2022 Chaos theory is probably something many of us rarely think about in our everyday lives, but have likely heard of. The metaphor of butterfly wings causing hurricanes is an example of this, how seemingly unrelated, random actions may have, in actuality, underlying patterns and interconnectedness. Our world is suffering, its people are suffering. News stories about freak weather phenomena and civil unrest are so commonplace that their individuality is almost meaningless, just a...nother horrific event happening somewhere. Even before this pandemic, our society has never felt more divided than it does in the present day, uncaring of the world and the people around it. It’s clear that the world needs to change and, fundamentally, I think change must come at the individual level first. We cannot expect systems of government or society to shift around us if we ourselves cannot be persuaded to alter our point of view. It is this initial change that gives the impetus for forward movement, and the drive to further action. I think platforms like YogaEcology are the next step in bridging the divide between the intent to see change and making change occur. Unlike reading motivational books or seeing motivational speakers, there is an element of closeness, of community. You are not separate from the motivator, you are able to connect with them and, in time, you can become a person who motivates others. This change will not necessarily happen immediately, maybe not even in your lifetime. While we cannot change the mind of every person that we meet, we can plant the seed. A seed that makes them stop and think or alters the actions that they perform so that, some time in the future, they too might start to see the world around them a bit differently. All it takes is for you to become those butterfly’s wings.
15.01.2022 WHAT IS YOUR SELF? Issues central to contemporary Western culture, such as identity, rights, liberties and even the pursuit of happiness all rest on the idea of the individual self. While many of these issues are current, the understanding of what a ‘self’ actually is, retains many unresolved and centuries old assumptions that continue to shape our era. The question then becomes: is there any possible movement from this position of pseudo modernity- empty, passionately confus...ed and inauthentic? The word 'Yoga' derives from the root Sanskrit verb yunj, which means 'to unify'. Simplistically, this can be interpreted as suggesting that yoga seeks to achieve a union between God and self. However, a more nuanced understanding suggests that yogic and meditative practices effect a unification of a duality that plays a core role in structuring the ordinary experience of selfhood. There is no proof or evidence that I know of that such an experience literally comes from outside of our own nervous system. Nevertheless, I do know that through spiritual practice it is possible to discover a quality of consciousness that genuinely transcends and goes beyond your own self-identity. This is the experience of surpassing the representational mode of experience and coming directly in contact with something real that is outside of your ‘self’, yet also essential to your existence. 14.01.2022 Move where the current takes you.
13.01.2022 There is no denying that we are all different, many cultures exist around the world. Even within a single culture there are many subcultures, each with many differences in opinion and personality. However, for all the differences we seem to have, if we were to make a list of all of them it would be finite, that is to say there are a limited number of things that you could find different between a group of people. In contrast, there is a near infinite list of things we can find that are similar, from our physical makeup at the cellular level to our basic human needs. Every person wants to feel safe, to feel like they belong and are respected as a human being. Everyone wants to feel joy and to enjoy their life to the fullest, to understand what it means to be human.
12.01.2022 As we come to learn more about each other and the world around us, so too will we come to realise that we are all connected.
05.01.2022 Extreme weather conditions, a global recession, trade wars, and a pandemic. Are we as a collective, compelled to change? It cannot be denied that the world will never be the same again post 2020. P. R. Sarkar said: " Our world needs a great change in order to move forward. A new wave will have to take place of the old, in order to remedy the ills of the world." I want to be part of that change!... I would like to see a different world. One that offers clean air, land and water as a result of a thriving global ecosystem. Governments that base their system of governing on benevolence and welfare for all instead of inequity and inequality. Everybody having access to proper healthcare (really important in times of COVID!), education, shelter, food and clothing. Society on an individual level, to feel love and an interconnectedness with each other and that the divisiveness of race, culture and caste are dissolved and in fact celebrated. YogaEcology offers a platform that addresses such issues. The mass mind often perceives social activism as being separate from spirituality. I believe if we search deep within ourselves we might be able to find a platform where they actually co-exist, like two sides of a coin. It seems convincing to me that when we go even deeper still, a desire for something greater is ignited. That awakening is what naturally arouses a love for all beings. Our responsibility for environmental stewardship is evoked. The compulsion to act against injustice and protect the vulnerable follows logically from this awakening
05.01.2022 We all have our part to play. No matter how big or small, all forms of life are pieces of this amazing puzzle we call Earth.
