12.01.2022 Feeling a huge amount of gratitude today..we have been able to travel to a country that has allowed us to enter and quarantine, find our own way and choose wher...e we wish to quarantine, how we wish to quarantine, which location and type of accommodation. 2 weeks in this green haven we have all we need, fresh air and stunning greenery as well as a big fat old gum tree in the back yard ! No complaints...just respect..there is even an abundance of red apples on the trees !! See more

11.01.2022 VALL DE LAGUAR ~ A BLOODY HISTORY We have now been in this valley for past 3 months and have learnt some interesting facts about the history of its inhabitants..apparently the Moors came back on 6 Century to settle in the mountains and lived peacefully here for over 1000 years..then were brutally murdered early 16 Century due to the beliefs. Vall de Laguar is a chain of three villages overlooking the Barranc del Infierno gorge. The valley ...obtains its name from the arabic Al-Agwar which means the caves. This area was the last stronghold of the descendents of the Moors who were forcibly expelled in 1609. There is a story, half legend, about the final stand of the moors on the Cavall Verd Ridge (Valenciano for Green Horse Caballo Verde in Castillian/Spanish), which runs above these villages on the south side of the valley. The story goes that in 1609 Ezzme de Laguart (1580-1609), a beautiful sorceress and healer from Laguar, incited people to rebel against the expulsion edict by spreading the prophecy of the green horse. At the order of their improvised leader, a farmer named Mellini, 1500 rebels converged around the Cavall Verd (the green horse), the crest that lies above the Vall de Laguar villages, ready to resist expulsion. Armed with just slingshots, stones and a crossbow, these peasant farmers and families faced five thousand well-armed and trained soldiers from Naples and Sicily. The result of that battle was inevitable: Felipe III Army massacred thousands of moors and the rest either leapt from the cliffs or took refuge in the caves of the Cavall Verd, whose name evokes precisely the legendary figure of a green horse that waited in vain to save them. The valley was repopulated by people from the island of Mallorca in 1611, and today you will still find some families with Mallorcan family names in these villages. 07.01.2022 Eeeee from 30 to 18 !! Today we drove just 300 km north..and ended up in a teeny tiny town called Albarracin.... in 2018 it was named Spains most beautiful ... village. Its known and visited for rock climbing!!! At the crest is 10th-century Andador Tower. The ruins of an alcázar, or Moorish castle, stand on a clifftop in the old town. The 16th-century Catedral del Salvador features a bell tower built on the remains of a Romanesque...we walked amongst the red stained homes that have been quarried from the adjacent mountains the local gypsum.. 300 Km can change the vibe, weather and culture...it's intriguing how many cities the Romans have had some influence over ...since we have travelled last year each country we have visited has had some sort of Roman settlement and or history...all pre dating 1000 AD...having travelled and settled pretty much all over the EU!!
