25.01.2022 A great overview of how our immune system works and the simple things that we are able to put in place to help support and enhance our immune system. You will find the information in this video by our teacher Dr. Ganesh Mohan so easy to understand and follow. Ganesh has a wonderful ability to keep everything so relevant and simple. He has a unique approach of bringing modern medicine, yoga and Ayurveda together in such a way that makes it accessible to all.

25.01.2022 A theme we have been exploring throughout our practice - exchanging the negative with the positive! Through consistent meaningful practice, non- attachment ( the ability to let go) , and most importantly mindful self- compassion, positive transformation is possible

25.01.2022 Fluro Friday is back thanks to the lovely ladies Cass and Ang. Join us on the green at Soldiers Beach Surf Club 6.30am this Friday the 27th for a short yoga mindfulness session, a chat and a swim. A great opportunity to connect with others in our community and a wonderful way to start the day. Don't forget to wear something bright and bring your mat!

22.01.2022 A phrase we often hear! I have been guilty many times of pushing my body to the point of injury. I am certain it has impacted my body long term in such a way that has recently forced me to stop and really pay attention! My injuries now seem to be prolonged and harder to recover from. And the more I understand how it is that our body works, the more I heavily stress in our classes that we need to honour our body with kindness. ‘No pain - no gain’ does not allow us to do this, hence it needs to be left at the door!

21.01.2022 I am currently presenting a detailed explanation of the seminal text on Samkhya called the Samkhya Karika on our online learning platform at YogaKnowledge.net. ...Here is a contemplation that arose from there. Life is a balance between control and acceptance. In one hand, you hold the power to control life circumstances, control your own mind and body, control other people. In your other hand, you hold the power to accept life circumstances, accept your mind and body, accept other people, just as they are. One is the capacity to influence. The other is the capacity to not be influenced. We navigate this balance throughout our lives to find stability. This fundamental theme is expressed in myriad ways in ancient philosophies. It reflects the inevitable pull between the opposing yet complementary forces: order and chaos. To bring order to life is to control it. To let go is to invite its inherent randomness, to acknowledge that we do not control it. You are not powerless in life, but you are limited in the degree of your influence on the world, and crucially, on your own body and mindno matter who you are. Often, the power that we think we have, that we may cherish, is uncertain, an illusion of sorts. Omnipotence is not the domain of humans. We try to control the world so much in modern times that we miss the value of the other power we have: the strength to not have to change life, the strength to accept life as it is. This is power too, of a complementary nature: it is power over yourself. It is the power to find peace and stability with reality as it is, instead of peace only in the reality that we wish for. You’re affected by the world situation now, unprecedented in living memory. No one has the power to determine the ultimate outcomes. Individually, you may worry about your job. You may struggle with being indoors or with child care. You may be anxious about your health. Ask yourself: What is worth working on controlling - directing, changing? What could you simply accept - be with or move on from? Do not undervalue the strength in letting go of the need to control. That is not a weakness if it is a conscious choice from inner wisdom. Dr. Ganesh Mohan (Btw, the ongoing course on the Samkhya Karika I mention is at https://yogaknowledge.net/p/samkhya-karika. Such an extraordinarily deep source text!)

18.01.2022 A beautiful way to start the day #centralcoastnsw

18.01.2022 The ocean! We are so blessed to have it at our doorstep, to be able to stop and immerse ourselves in the absolute beauty and energy it offers. Take the opportunity to stop and connect with our natural surroundings by joining us for an energising breath focused yoga class at Soldiers Beach. Classes will resume January 19th 2021 and are open to all levels of experience. (Please note that to kick things off again we will be practising on the green out the front of the Surf Club for the first three weeks before resuming upstairs in the Surf Club)

17.01.2022 Change is always occurring . Adapting our yoga practice appropriately can help support us to adapt during times of change, especially when unforeseen challenges are thrown into the mix. It is this kind of resilience that allows us to adapt and respond effectively, both physically and mentally.

17.01.2022 A very logical way to approach depression. Looking at all domains of well being and working with them kindly and patiently. We are not all the same so our needs vary, however our approach needs to be holistic so that we are exploring all aspects of well being in order to heal.

16.01.2022 One thing that I love most about my work is the people I meet. Like minded beings coming together to connect, and often I get to hear their beautiful stories. It is what inspires me to keep teaching. The story of https://www.mahikaproduce.com.au/ is one that I am thrilled to be sharing as this gorgeous couple had a vision and they have followed through with it. Kristy, being a therapist who whole heartedly believes in the power of food for healing, and Dish being a passionate... horticulturalist and foodie , it was a vision for them both to grow nutritious produce on their land that they could share with their community. We often would stay back after classes and discuss the importance of nutrition for healing the body and mind, and how it is paramount for optimal health. Their vision has come to fruition with the creation of Mahika Produce. "Our vision is to supply our community with the freshest seasonal organic produce to bring extraordinary flavour to your family table. We are committed to foraging the freshest and most delicious seasonal produce. Our collaborations with local farmers offers you a variety of ingredients conveniently delivered to your door. When you buy local you invest in strengthening communities and you are making a more responsible choice for our planet." We need not look any further, as we have another wonderful option for ethically sourcing our produce on the central coast. Using local farmers, organically grown produce, delivered straight to your door. Check out their website for more information.

12.01.2022 Every journey has times when we feel stuck. Yoga is no different. Holistic self-transformation requires great many skills. That is why the map of yoga is so bro...ad: breath, movement, ethics, lifestyle, relationship, meditation and mindfulness, and more. Here are three suggestions: 1. Have a clear and comprehensive map of the path and the skills therein. Even traditionally, it appears as if there are so many ways: karma, bhakti, jnana, hatha, laya, mantra etc. If you don’t know where you’re going and how to get there, you will be lost. 2. Keep the goal in mind always: decreasing dukha (suffering or ill-being) through all these practices. That’s what unifies the seemingly different yoga paths. 3. If you’re stuck in your practice you’re not seeing much growth over several months, feeling the same every time you practice make a change. Mostly, every style or tradition or path of yoga emphasizes some skills over others, and leads to imbalances or lack of progress after a while. That’s expected. Look to other skills and the areas of the map that you haven’t worked on yet, and you’ll find that you’re unlocking progress easily again. 11.01.2022 The word pra occurs in the upanishads, yoga texts, and in ayurveda. It doesn’t mean exactly the same in every context: it could be life force, breath, inhal...e, or a part of vta. (It is worthwhile to explore this; it would take a chapter in a book.) The connection between breathing and life force reflected in these meanings is unmistakable. Life force is, by definition, intangible. Life force animates the functions of the organism, of body and mind. It is in the function of every cell in your body. It is not a thing to be experienced; it is what makes experiences possible. How does one connect to such intangibility? Through the functions it manifests. The body function closest to intangible life force in humans is breathing. Without breath, life functions cease. Breath is the gateway to connect with the less manifest functions of your body, the involuntary mechanisms that keep life going: digestion, heartbeat, circulation, inner movements and more. When you do breathing exercises, you want to feel the inner experiences in your body, connect to the subtle functions that escape your attention at other times. Breath guides you to deepen these inner experiences, and even regulate and control them. This is among the keys that the ancient hatha yogis discovered: that breath control can help with inner body control. Conversely, if your breath is a mess, your other body functions are also impaired. Learning skillful pryma, therefore, is a foundation for good physiological functionfor the unimpeded flow of pra or life force. 10.01.2022 A clear explanation of the benefits of safely moving and loading the body at the end of our existing range of movement. For me personally I enjoy the option of exploring the breath when moving dynamically and also being static in the posture. There is a sense of freedom that comes with being able to explore the way the body moves without forcing the body, and then we have the option to be still. A wonderful opportunity to remain connected to the breath and mindful of how we move and feel throughout our practice.

07.01.2022 Movement on all levels. Something that many of us don't get the time to explore, whether what we are doing is nourishing us or moving us towards injury. During our yoga practice, we can take the time to notice how our body feels and explore how body and our mind responds, something that we can then take further into our daily lives.

07.01.2022 In modern life, we are mostly in our minds; our bodies are ignored and dysregulated. We are not designed to function this way: technology and socioeconomic cond...itions force this on us. Good breathing is a great way to rebalance ourselves. Steady, slow, easy, mindful breathing resets our stress response and activates integrative self-regulation in our body physiology. The mind and body come closer together, bringing us to a more natural state, how we are meant to be. Dr. Ganesh Mohan In-depth traditional yoga studies at www.YogaKnowledge.net. 05.01.2022 A point of reflection. How much stuff do we really need to consume? This has been a common topic of discussion recently amongst my friends and I. Perhaps this time has been a blessing on some levels. For many of us it has forced us to reflect on the chaos of our daily lives, whether it be the time that we don't get to spend with our family, or the chance to stop and connect with nature regularly. Some of us have been forced to think very carefully about what we are consuming as we no longer have the same financial resources. What ever it may be, amongst all that has been placed in our paths, and all that we may have lost, we could potentially gain so much! What we take from it is completely up to us!
