25.01.2022 One of my favourite parts of the class is the banter that goes on with the blokes. Its not just about the yoga. If you fancy joining a great community of guys and as an added bonus, getting fit at the same time! Then get yourself along to a class. New terms start next week. You can check out the times here..... www.yogajak.com.au

24.01.2022 Yoga... It's good for ya!. Hey fellas, if you live in or near Brighton then get yourself along to my Men's Yoga Taster Session on Monday 7pm. We're going to talk about the science of it all, just the facts, no airy fairy stuff. We'll go through quite a few poses, each with different levels of difficulty. Plus some breath work and you can hopefully, after all that, have a glimpse of what it's like to calm the mind down and let it be still, and that's good for you! Sound like fun? See you on the mat, mate.

24.01.2022 Yoga can put you in a good mood! Releasing those endorphins which give you a euphoric high. Come and try it for yourself. You dont need to be flexible, thats something you acquire! If you find it hard to quieten the mind, then yoga can help. You can try out a class by buying a single pass here....... https://www.joymamma.com.au///%2420_Single_Class_Pass.html You can check out the classes here.... https://www.yogajak.com.au/timetable.html See you on the mat, fella. Steve

23.01.2022 This is how my mind feels after a yoga practice with my eyes closed (minus the logo in the corner!) . Its like being sat in a blacked out room. I find it hard to think about something, which is good! thats the whole point! The mind is a busy thing, its good at it! But it needs to slow down sometimes. This is where yoga comes in. I cant just sit down and meditate. Im not wired that way, maybe more practice would sort that out?. But I find it easier after a physical worko...ut when Ive been linking my movements to the breath and focusing on the poses in the practice. In class we start off with this format in mind. Once weve gone through various poses and breathed properly we move onto meditation. If youre keen to give it a try theres spaces left in the classes as new terms are starting this week. Go to the website to check them out www.yogajak.com.au/timetable Youre body and mind will thank you for it. See more

23.01.2022 Aahhhh. The body! What an amazing thing! Keep it in good condition by coming to yoga! Happy Friday fellas.

22.01.2022 Using the wall is a great way to get the hips stacked in half moon pose.

22.01.2022 "Once your spine is out, you're out", I repeat this quote in class quite a lot. Spine health is so important. That's why we do twists, turns, back bends, forward folds, all good for keeping the back mobile. Who wants to be the old guy walking with a stoop? Not me. Yoga is good maintenance for the body. Come see for yourself mate

21.01.2022 So I post my timetable and then have technical issues so can do the Live sesh last night. and then this morning my Bluetooth ability on my laptop has just gone.. cant find it anywhere..normally in the Action Center quick access panel (yeah right...quick access my arse), so I restart the lappy and the button is back, but its not doing anything.... Isnt technology supposed to enhance our lives??!!

20.01.2022 Eh? A picture of a rusty twin pipe exhaust on a yoga page? Well, I bought a motorbike recently. We dont need two cars , said the wife, we need to start downsizing, she said. A bike was my answer to this! Ive never had one as a daily ride so Im looking forward to getting it ready for the road. Ive sanded down the exhaust, filled a couple of holes, sprayed it and wrapped it with exhaust wrap. On the left of the exhaust you might be able to make out a couple of piecees ...of bamboo. They are for a set of ethnic-y downlights that Im halfway through finishing. Ive just finished painting an old surfboard as well, which Im hanging up on a wall in the garden. I like projects, they keep the mind in the present. I suffer from stress sometimes and focusing on a task in hand is a great way for me to unwind. Yoga has this advantage as well. Focusing on the body and breath anchors the mind in the present. I always feel calm and focused after a class, its a great way to keep the stress levels in check and also its bloody good for the body! Ive got new terms starting in a week. If youre keen to have a crack you can either come along to a class at the studio or come along to a Virtual class online.. Check out the website for some more info. See you on the mat mate. www.yogajak.com.au See more

20.01.2022 There's big guys, small guys, tall guys short guys, some with injuries, some with a clean sheet, as I like to call it! Some can touch their toes, some can just look at them, and imagine touching them, one day! Different blokes, different bodies, different abilities. This is why I like to teach a yoga practice that starts off slow and steady. It builds up with harder layers added and you stop where you want to stop. I like to talk about alignment a lot, but if you can't do a p...ose, because your body doesn't allow it, then, sweet, stop where you need to. You're still going to get benifits and over time you will get better. Practice makes perfect as my dad always said. See you on the mat fellas. Steve Www.yogajak.com.au See more

17.01.2022 There are young fellas and old fellas come to Yogajak to practice Yoga. They are all shapes and sizes! Some flexible, some not. Some with injuries from sports. Some with work related niggles. Some come for the slowing down you can experience in the head. Lots of different blokes, all with the same goal of looking after the body and mind. There are classes in Maroochydore, Baringa and starting soon in Brighton. You can check them out here....... https://www.yogajak.com.au/timetable.html Come along, your body and your mind will thank you for it. See you on the mat, mate. Steve

17.01.2022 I often mention in class that the world record for the longest held Plank Pose is 8 hours and 15 minutes.. oh and 15 seconds!!.. AND it was set by a 62 Year old Fella... Theres hope for us all!!!! see you on the mat fellas...

17.01.2022 Just waiting around in Sumo Squat. Trying to focus on the breath and stop the voice in your head from complaining to you when your legs start getting weary. All through the class we focus on each pose and use the breath as an anchor for the mind. This is a great way to set yourself up for a bit of meditation at the end of the session. Meditation is keeping the mind still. Giving it a rest from its daily tasks, lists, thoughts, babble, whatever. Yoga is great for the body and the mind. Come see for yourself. Www.yogajak.com.au

17.01.2022 Got any Brissy mates who need to stretch out a bit?? I'm running a Beginners Yoga for Men taster session in Brighton in December.

15.01.2022 I find now that once I set foot on the yoga mat I can almost instantly settle the mind down. Ive had quite a few stressful months recently, much like other folks with all the uncertainty in the world at present. But yoga just clears my mind of all the chatter and lets me reset. If you fancy giving yoga a crack, then jump onto the website and check out the times. See you on the mat, mate. www.yogajak.com.au

15.01.2022 This half squat pose (skandasana) is great for opening up the hips, stretching out the hammies, good for knees, ankles feet, and you have to focus to stop yourself falling on your arse or your face. That focus brings the mind into the present, which stops you thinking about other stuff, which, after an hour or so of focusing on the poses and your breath makes it easier to sit or lie still and let the mind be still as well. And that's good for ya!

14.01.2022 In and out of the QLD dept of transport in under 10 minutes. Theres some advantages to this pandemic! In and out of the QLD dept of transport in under 10 minutes. Theres some advantages to this pandemic!

14.01.2022 Flexibility is something you gain by coming to class. It shouldn't be the reason stopping you from trying yoga. "I can't do yoga I'm not flexible enough!".. I hear it all the time. It's like saying you can't take a shower because you're too dirty! ... Come try for yourself and be like Gav! See you on the mat, mate

14.01.2022 I met a yoga teacher once who said that if you only practiced a sun salutation routine it would be enough. No need for fancy pretzel shapes Just a simple practice linked with the breath. So, this was the inspiration for saturdays class - only sun salutations. We started slow, held each pose for a few breaths, then gradually built up the pace. This was followed by more breath work. We then went out for a coffee @bleubeancafebar .. Why not?! . A great way to start the weekend!

14.01.2022 Yoga..... It just works! Too cheesy? Agghhh.... who cares, its Friday!... See more

13.01.2022 After class the other morning we went for our usual coffee @bleubeancafebar. I rank it No1 on the coast for coffee AND it has the added bonus of being 20 paces from the studio. I was sat talking to Greg, @brikmanyoga and we were discussing the way men in general first come to Yoga classes. In a lot of instances its because of an injury or tightness or both. So a reactive reason. Were not that good at maintenance, and being proactive about our health, we just put up with sh...it and get on with it until we REALLY need to seek help. I was definitly guilty of this myself but now make the time to keep the old cogs oiled, and to un-kink the pipes! Yoga has to be one of the best forms of exercise for this, physically and mentally. Im glad I found it when I did. If youre keen to give it a go you can check out the beginners videos on the website, theyll give you a good stretch, its nothing too fancy, it doesnt need to be. But your body and mind will thank you for it. https://www.yogajak.com.au/beginners-video-series.html See you on the mat, mate. See more

12.01.2022 My favourite part of the yoga class is the opportunity to sit down and chat to the other blokes. Theres a great coffee shop @bleubeancafebar just over from the studio where we go after the morning classes. I had one of the guys mention to me recently that he doesnt get many opportunities these days to sit down and chat to other blokes. Daily life can get a bit stale sometimes what with the usual routines so its good to break it up. So, we do yoga then we do coffee and have... a yarn. A great way to start the day! Check out the website for class times, and give me a call/email if youre interested. Www.yogajak.com.au Steve

04.01.2022 Yoga. Its maintenance for the body and mind.!

04.01.2022 A crisp 8 degrees on the beach!

04.01.2022 A yoga practice doesnt need to have you twisting and pulling yourself into some pretzel-like shapes. The poses we go through in class can certainly make you sweat sometimes and give you a workout though! But everyone is different and every body is different, so we all work to our own level and abilities. What might be easy for you could be hard for the next bloke. The added bonus of all this physical exercise is that you can create great focus and calm down the mind by using... the breath and being mindful of what youre doing in each pose. The brain likes to think, its what it does! But it needs moments of calm as well. Yoga it great for this. If you fancy giving it all a crack then jump on over to the website and check out the beginners videos, theyll give you an idea of whats instore. https://www.yogajak.com.au/beginners-video-series.html If youre keen to either come to a class at the studio in Mooloolaba or try out the virtual online classes then there are new terms starting from 20th July (next Monday) you can check the times etc out here- https://www.yogajak.com.au/timetable.html See you on the mat, mate. 01.01.2022 You cant argue with science! By reducing perceived stress and anxiety, yoga appears to modulate stress response systems. This, in turn, decreases physiological arousal for example, reducing the heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and easing respiration. There is also evidence that yoga practices help increase heart rate variability, an indicator of the bodys ability to respond to stress more flexibly.
