23.01.2022 I know I’m in prison but I feel so happy and peaceful in this moment ....Female prisoner feedback after our trauma informed yoga class this morning. This woman’s embodiment of her practice was able to make her feel so different at the end of the class, compared to how she was feeling when she walked in. I’m humbled beyond words at strength and resilience and perseverance these human beings can demonstrate in very uncertain circumstances....

18.01.2022 The shame that human beings carry with them for errors that they’ve made in life or circumstances that they’ve experienced is what keeps us going in circles. The way in which we truly see each other, as flawed individuals with basic needs and desires is what I feel is the main barrier to rehabilitation and healing. As I walk into a remand centre each week to practice with incarcerated people, I’m witness to the humanity that lies within each and everyone of us. Whilst walls and wires may physically separate us, it’s the closed minds that can sometimes cause the most damage.

15.01.2022 Thank you so much again to James Fox and Prison Yoga Project for sharing this testimonial/reflection from Kimini (formerly incarcerated person and yogi). It's such an important reminder of being aware that yoga facilitators in this space are doing more than 'teaching poses or a physical practice' but we are also in a privileged position of being in a "relational space with those that we are practicing with an that ability to hold a 'safe space' has the potential do impact pe...ople at a level beyond the asana. In this video, Kimini beautifully articulates what his practice meant to him inside prison, but how he uses it on a daily basis now to deal with the rollercoaster of life outside. If you have time, please read this article and take a look at the video. https://prisonyoga.org/inside-that-yoga-room/
