25.01.2022 The following is an experience my brother shared that really touched my heart. "When I wanted a dog, I didn't want to support the puppy mills. I started looking at local shelters. I submitted an application to adopt and an interview and home inspection were scheduled. My application was rejected. Reason: not available to let dog out for walks within a reasonable amount of time. When I was at the shelter, looking at potential dogs, I noticed signs on all the kennels that eit...her said, "I have been walked one, two, three, or no times today." The majority of signs stated the dogs had not been walked that day and this was around 5pm. Most of the kennels also had feces in or near the water bowls or bedding. How ironic. I thought of protesting and filing complaints and getting under the skin of the people who I thought were being unjust. Instead, I volunteered my time. I spent 2 years cleaning poop, and walking dogs. I got to know the people that declined my application for a companion. But more importantly, they got to know me. We found common ground and eventually I took a dog home, then a cat and I was even helping other people find new 4 legged family members. Life lesson: Being involved and dedicating your time to improve a situation can yield a more desirable result for many rather than confuse, divide and piss people off."
