12.01.2022 Yoga Sadhana Teacher Tips Q. I find it is very easy to practice in the class but at home there are too many distractions. How can I maintain the same level of discipline and involvement at home? A. Distractions can take many forms, so it is important to identify exactly what is causing concern. Is it that you need to set aside a dedicated space or time in your schedule for yoga? Or is it that family members are disturbing you during your sadhana time, or even discouraging you... from it altogether? Making sure you set the right atmosphere for your practices is essential if you want to keep it up long term, whether it is in terms of the social atmosphere or physically setting aside a space to practise in. Having a dedicated space and setting a regular time for your practices is one way to help maintain a rhythm, not only for yourself, but others in your household as well, as they will know this is your 'me time'. It may take a while, but as your relatives see your focus and commitment, they will learn to leave you alone during this time. Making your space desirable for meditative practice is another important factor. Turning off your phone and blocking out background noise, lighting a lamp (preferably using sesame oil), decorating your space with artwork or fresh flowers, and above all keeping your yoga space clean and tidy - will help create a suitable ambience. Of course, you can always come and practise at Yoga Sadhana, where we run practice sessions every week. For more tips on how to create a committed space at home dedicated for your Sadhana, please read this article by Sadhguru, and let us know your thoughts in the comments below. https://isha.sadhguru.org//yoga-for-beginners/yoga-at-home/
