22.01.2022 We all know the benefits of yoga - improving flexibility and posture, increasing strength and muscle tone, reducing anxiety and stress, improving sleep and immune function (due to a reduction in stress hormones which are produced by being in a chronic state of busyness ad overwhelm). I began as a student of Japanese Yoga around 10 years ago. This style of Yoga is based on the principles of Traditional Eastern Medicine/Five Element Theory. Aligned with the seasons, we work the... energy lines (meridians) in the body. Each meridian relates to a particular organ in the body so we create poses with a purpose - to bring awareness to and correct imbalances in the flow of energy along the meridians. The body is treated holistically, so there is a whole body view of physical, emotional and spiritual imbalances, as well as creating harmony with our external environment (the seasons). Class involves poses, breathing practices and meditation to bring your body back into balance and feel energised. Whether you are fit and flexible, stiff as anything, or somewhere in between, the classes are accessible for all levels of experience and flexibility. For me, Yoga is more than just the poses (asanas). I love how I feel after class. A calmer mind, more grounded physically, and a sense of space. A spaciousness to get more conscious of emotions, body sensations, behaviours and thoughts. This is where the healing happens.

16.01.2022 Autumn - Metal Element In Chinese Medicine, each season/element has its own gifts and challenges. Autumn is the season of the metal element and is governed by the Lungs and Large Intestine. More than any other season, Autumn sets us up for transformation and reflection. We see the falling away and decay in nature after the abundance of late summer. Things seem to come into a clearer and sharper focus, which can be confronting. It is a time of letting go and receiving of inspi...ration. When our metal element is in balance, we move naturally with the flow of life: allowing, exchanging, refining and accepting. There is a magical quality to Autumn, and the colours of white, silver and gold all relate to the metal element. Foods that are white support the metal element (think cauliflower, onions, garlic, leeks, parsnips) so try to add more of these to your diet at this time. Start noticing how your inner world mirrors the external world and see if you can notice the shifts and opportunities that Autumn brings. P.S I took this photo on a local bushwalk this week. 16.01.2022 It's really happening. I'd love to meet you in our first classes next week at Northbridge in the Dance Republic studio. Spring invites us to move, with inspired energy. We step out of the darkness and stillness of winter and into the light. We feel and see the movement and new beginnings in nature all around us. What are you looking to clear and cleanse? What are you ready for?
