No matter what’s going on in your life right now, No matter how many thoughts are racing around your mind, No matter how the body’s feeling.... Take a moment to still. Take a big, deep breath in through your nose, And let it out your mouth As you breathe in fresh air, expand your lungs, As you breathe out see if you can feel into a sense of letting go, Any stress in the body, in the mind, Just let it go Feel the muscles of your body soften. Close down your eyes if you like, Take another breath deeply through your nose, And out through your mouth. Such a simple yet potent exercise, Come back to your breath when you next feel stress, overwhelm, anxious, scattered or when you feel anything other than your amazing self Mindful breathing also has the capacity to increase your levels of focus and lean more into happiness, where you deserve to be. 19.01.2022 s Stop for a minute. Sit or stand taller.... Slide your shoulders back and soften them down your back a smidge. Try drawing the back of your head and neck toward your back body, so your ears are more in line with your shoulders. How much better does that feel and look? Old eh! Headaches, stiff neck, shoulder and upper back pain, abnormal curvature of your spine. BUT, what interests/frightens me the most is the crimping or compression of the main artery in the front of your neck which supplies fresh blood and oxygen to your brain! Paying attention on the mat, being aware, being present and extending that awareness off the mat.... Yoga is not just posses and punching out a heap of Sun Sals. 10.01.2022 Yoga on Sunday’s - What to expect Showing up for the first time or even if you haven’t joined me in a while, it can be daunting, I get it, I feel you. Showing up is the hardest part, the rest is easy!... Arrive at Howrah Primary School, walk through the school to the Multi Purpose Hall (if you are unsure or confused, ring me, I am here for you) Allow yourself enough time to chat, settle in, we will start at 09:00. At 9am we will start in your most comfortable position, it’s ok, I’ll suggest a few options. These first few moments will allow us to arrive, feel into the space, your body, your mind, however you have shown up. We will then tap into observing and maybe expanding our breath, together with a little movement, some gentle shapes where we begin to explore and observe tightness, tension and red flag spaces that feel tender/off. And, honouring the spaces that feel open and strong. Throughout the next 20 or so minutes we will gently build up to a fancy shape where I will give you options to ‘try on’ different shapes if one doesn’t seem to ‘fit’ or feel great or I might have a few fancy shapes along the way that we try on. And by ‘fancy’, I mean poses/shapes/asanas. We then find some calming length within our muscles and mind, slowing down a touch. Now, for the most beneficial time in our practice, finding a comfortable position (I’ll suggest a few again) where you can find stillness within your body, an opportunity to feel into your new found length and strength, acknowledge your efforts and send a little gratitude to our body. And all of a sudden an hour has passed, we now have more length and strength within our body, space and clarity in our mind!
