25.01.2022 What happens when you bring bias on the mat ? "Our practice is powerful and transformative when we practice for ourselves. Imagine what it can change when we practice for us all." https://www.google.com//the-yoga-journal-cover-that-s/amp/

25.01.2022 This photo reminded of one of the rare times in the early years of motherhood when I showered, blow dried my hair, put on make up and a lovely dress in one day. I lived in my yoga clothes most days! Busy taking care of this little person and getting to know her and myself too. Sleep deprivation was real. Exhausted, joyful, gosh there could be so much emotions going on at the same time. Anticipating all those baby milestones. Well come to think of it nothing much has changed, leisure wear is still my go to. But I can now enjoy showering by lonesome and not getting spewed on. Seriously, the early days are challenging but experience teaches us so much. #tbt #10yearsago #motherdaughter #motherhood #memorylane

24.01.2022 Here's a study that outlines the "The effectiveness of prenatal yoga on delivery outcomes: A meta-analysis" Apart from stress relief various research points to a correlation between yoga practice and birth outcomes. Come join me Friday Yoganic Live Streaming Pregnancy Yoga 9:30 am EST Sydney time. "Results:... This meta-analysis identified that yoga improved vaginal delivery, decreased premature delivery and birth weight of newborns, shorten the labor duration. Conclusion Prenatal yoga is an effective complementary medicine to improve delivery outcomes and not to increase the risk of fetus, which is worth recommending to pregnant women. But studies involved in this meta-analysis were not all of high quality." The Registration Number in PROSPERO is CRD42019132490" Thanks Lauren Garrett for sharing!

23.01.2022 V I L L A G E | S U P P O R T "Like thousands of others, we survived the storm and the many dark days that followed because of the kindness of strangers who brought food, water, and comfort" . - Dr. Vivek Murthy . . Teaching mums and bubs can be challenging but it is one that I love because of it allows women to be with other women as motherhood can be isolating and lonely in as much as it brings joy and so much love. Pre covid I used to carry babies to give mums the opport...unity to move on their own but with social distancing and safety measures in place I have to teach from a distance. I end up chatting to the babies while teaching, rocking their bouncers, entertaining them while giving instructions and if that doesn't work mums can integrate baby as she moves. It is my way of showing support and understanding. Time to move can be a reprive from a rough night or day, and being with other mothers , moving, sharing stories, listening may bring a sense of comfort especially if one is feeling alone . . Post partum life isn't simple , we need connection to thrive, a village so to speak . My father sent me photos of my mother carrying me as a baby surrounded by her sisters and my cousins. As a young girl I spent time with them when my parents needed suppprt. They were my parents' lifeline .Covid has made it more challenging for many, especially for many pre and post natal women. I read an article recently around the rise of mental health issues during this time. Mums what can you do to cultivate a sense of connection?Come to class if you can (whether online or in person) to get those feel good hormones going for you, reach out to someone whether family or a friend, don't be afraid to seek out help from specialists, know and reach out to your community resources (mothers group, help line numbers, psychologists, breastfeeding support, physiotherapist, naturopath, doctor etc). Remember to be gentle with yourselves mamas. . . If you're a family member or a friend of a post natal mum, reach out to them, extend support in any way you can. Mothers are needing support more than ever. Let's look after each other. #motherhood #postnatallife #lonliness #community #yoga #mentalwellbeing See more

22.01.2022 We are taking it one day at a time just like most of you . Juggling family life, working from home , supporting our daughter as she studies online at home , sneaking out for a walk or to exercise and shop for essentials. If you ask us what we miss , it is the most simple thing - human connection/community - cuddles and playing with friends, not having to avoid the person you come across from you're going for a walk or shopping, collaborating with co-workers in person and teaching in the studio, preparing a meal for family and friends. There are other things like being outdoors, going for a swim or the park, traveling but there is nothing like human connection. What about you , what is it you miss the most ? Have a beautiful week ahead ! #connection #community

22.01.2022 Motherhood , the hardest job of all but so rewarding . My daughter is now 10 and things have changed and is constantly changing. I love recalling the early days and enjoy what we currently have . If you're going to watch the video have tissues nearby .

21.01.2022 The importance of breath, contemplative practice such as mediation and yoga, rest and our nervous system. So relevant during this these times. "Contemplative practices, such as meditation and yoga, are increasingly popular among the general public and as topics of research. Beneficial effects associated with these practices have been found on physical health, mental health and cognitive performance. However, studies and theories that clarify the underlying mechanisms are lac...king or scarce. This theoretical review aims to address and compensate this scarcity. We will show that various contemplative activities have in common that breathing is regulated or attentively guided. This respiratory discipline in turn could parsimoniously explain the physical and mental benefits of contemplative activities through changes in autonomic balance. We propose a neurophysiological model that explains how these specific respiration styles could operate, by phasically and tonically stimulating the vagal nerve: respiratory vagal nerve stimulation (rVNS). The vagal nerve, as a proponent of the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), is the prime candidate in explaining the effects of contemplative practices on health, mental health and cognition..." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6189422/

20.01.2022 I'm in awe of this growing lady . She inspires me to question and do the work needed to help create a world where all girls are seen and heard , no matter what heritatage, background , shape, interests they have. Our differences make us unique and beautiful human beings but sadly we see young girls around us wishing to be someone and somewhere else. If you're feeling drawn to celebrate all that we are , feel passionate about making a difference in our youth's wellbeing kee...p an eye out for the upcoming @inspiredgirls_australia program called The Breath Project. The goal is to teach 80 young girls in 2021 the power of breath and mindfulness practices in daily life. Many of our tween and teenage girls are feeling disconnected, confused , and overwhelmed. Helping them reconnect, decompress can be healing, a pathway for them to flourish in these times. I can't wait to share so much more of my vision for this project for our young girls and future @inspiredgirls_australia Educators. More to come very soon ! For now you can follow @inspiredgirls_australia and watch out for The Breath Project updates. #inspiredgirls #breath #thebreathproject #mindfulness #wellbeing #mentalhealth See more

20.01.2022 Prepare to Fly: Laddering towards Titibhasana (fire fly) In general vinyasa classes I teach a well rounded flow and other times I guide the class towards a peak posture. This specific video (this video is sped up) shows some of the postures I would include before moving towards an arm balance called Titibhasana , Fire Fly, an arm balance that requires engagement of the bandhas, arm strength, hip and hamstring ,shoulder support. I used to practice this posture almost everyda...y as it was part of my ashtanga practice. I tend to practice an ashtanga inspired flow in the last year or so. There are times when that framework is a bit much given where I am . Today I was inspired to flow towards it . Practiced a bit of laddering, adding postures, then repeating Here's a snippet of the preparation into firefly/ titibhasana. . . Join me Wednesday for livestream Flow Class @yoganic . Our flow is inspired by firefly posture. We might not be doing the arm balance but our flow will help prepare us for it. We always end with a mini restorative and yoga nidra to ease us to into relaxation . #titibhasana #firefly #yoga #flow #vinyasa #breath #armbalance #homepractice See more

19.01.2022 "Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity" - Pema Chodron . . 19.01.2022 @birthing_in_new_earth Gathering will begin in a few days! Here's what I'll be sharing with this wonderful community: . . Inspired Girls - @inspiredgirls_australia... "The practice of mindful awareness and self-compassion can be bring us closer to a deeper understanding and honouring of our powerful rhythms as women. Our journey through menarche and menopause leave many young girls and women confused and lost. The sometimes tumultuous journey for many impacts the way we interact with our inner and outer world. This does not have to be the way. Michelle will be sharing a talk on the power of turning inwards as we navigate our rhythms as women, from menarche to menopause and how mindful yoga, pranayama (breath) and meditation practice can gently lead us home. She believes in creating a community, a world, a new earth where young girls can thrive, where they can flourish into womanhood with awareness, knowledge, and the tools (practices) that will enable them to connect to their deep seated power, leading lives from an authentic space. Michelle will also be sharing a yoga, breath and meditation practice centered on equanimity and compassion together with her 10 year old daughter Cassy. You are welcome to practice solo or you can invite your tween/teen to join in the practice as well." #inspiredgirls #meditation #yoga #yogaforteens #teensyoga #wellbeing #youthwellbeing #birthinginnewearth See more

17.01.2022 A great read ... Teens and their brain , and the importance of connection and compassion

17.01.2022 Perimenopause... I am there! Hormonal shifts happening and some of us experience symptoms like night sweats, sleepless nights, and fatigue like no other, mood swings, skipping period, to name a few. I have personally experienced all of the above. As I write this I am feeling completely fatigued. Yes , I feel like could sleep the whole day, unable to do anything. This part of my cycle, my autumn (time before period arrives... not sure if it will this time around as ...I have been skipping periods since last year) is when extreme exhaustion hits me. I really try to be take it slow , move my body in nurturing ways (no intense yoga, or exercises) , eat kindly, slow down and rest as much. Resting lots has never been my strong point but since I have started this new phase in life when I hit 41 (turning 44 this year) I have learned to embrace a slower pace. What happens when I go against it? I end up feeling stressed, sick, at times angry. It all piles up. Creating space for rest has been my monthly practice, and one that is still challenging at times , but I'm open to it more than ever. A complimentary yoga practice during times of slow is a nurturing Restorative Yoga Practice. Yes perimenopause is real. If you'd like to read more about it , here is a link from Harvard University's women's health department. https://www.health.harvard.edu//perimenopause-rocky-road-t

17.01.2022 "Perhaps the biggest tragedy of our lives is that freedom is possible, yet we can pass our years trapped in the same old patterns...We may want to love other people without holding back, to feel authentic, to breathe in the beauty around us, to dance and sing. Yet each day we listen to inner voices that keep our life small." - Tara Brach, Radical Acceptance: @tarabrach . . I had a lovely break spent with family and I'm excited to be back teaching this Thursday @yoganic . O...ur theme for the week is freedom. We'll explore this in our movement and meditation practice. What does it feel like to move with ease, to own our practice, to connect deeply without being attached to the outcome of our efforts, to explore new ways of being and seeing? Aparigraha / non-atrachement is the special virtue we'll explore to get us free from whatever holds us back . 16.01.2022 And just like that everything has changed for all of us in different ways. . . Yoga schools have officially closed! From teaching yoga face, many have now shifted online . In person is quite different from online for sure, but many would benefit from yoga practice for over all well-being more than ever before.I will continue to teach a few online classes via @yoganic and @yoganicathome , whilst @jeanbyrnephd and I will continue to support our mums via @mindfulbirth_austr...alia through pre and post natal yoga classes, online training and birth education classes. . . A meditation on Be-friending Fear: Cultivating Courage will be available for all in the next coming days . A simple practice to help bring awareness, cultivate a courageous and compassionate heart during uncertain times . Meditation is a powerful practice that can help us come into contact with our inner world. This time of observation allows us to touch the deepest parts within ourselves with loving kindness. When we practice meditation we invited to practice non reactive awareness by adding self compassion we are able to gently lean into the discomfort ,whether physical or mental , that may arise during practice. That sense of groundedness , patience and compassion for all beings is what is needed in this very moment. I will try to release this within the next few days . . . Another big change is that we are preparing to home school our girl . It is added family pressure for sure as we have never done it before. I would love some tips, they are most welcome! There will be art, yoga, dance f and some running involved for sure . I've got all the fun stuff sorted out! . . It has been a heavy last few days with deep uncertainty for many . I always try to look at the bright side of life but for now it truly sucks. I've been thinking of all the health workers, pregnant mums, business owners, those who've lost their jobs. Ah!!! I'll give myself a minute to feel it then work towards what I can do and change to help the bigger community. I believe we will all get through this somehow , we are asked to be patient, kind and be courageous together. Much love!#change #meditation See more

16.01.2022 Don't forget to check on your little ones. This global change may affect our children in different ways. My daughter communicates her feelings openly, at times in tears as she shares her fears and concerns about the future. It isn't easy as parents to witness this but we can only do our best by being there for them, listening , hugging, and reassuring them that everyone is trying their best to keep safe. Schooling at home has added layers of complexity and pressures for fa...milies , missing friendships, exposure to conflict , neglect for some , all of which may add layers of stress and anxiety. Check in with your little ones. We do ours during our walks, and lately the meltdowns happen at night which means it may take while to transition to sleep but the sharing and listening allows her to release pent up emotions. This time has given us the space to connect in a deeper way, with more understanding and self-compassion. Take care everyone! Emerging Minds Australia shares a few tips on how we can help children cope with stress during Covid: Children may respond to stress in different ways such as being more clingy, anxious, withdrawing, angry or agitated, bedwetting etc. - Respond to your child’s reactions in a supportive way, listen to their concerns and give them extra love and attention. - Children need adults’ love and attention during difficult times. Give them extra time and attention. - Remember to listen to your children, speak kindly and reassure them. - If possible, make opportunities for the child to play and relax. - Keep to regular routines and schedules as much as possible, or help create new ones in a new environment, including school/learning as well as time for safely playing and relaxing. - Provide facts about what has happened, explain what is going on now and give them clear information about how to reduce their risk of being infected by the disease in words that they can understand depending on their age. 15.01.2022 We've been homebound together for many months. She studies and I've been working and studying from home. School is back to normal next week, and I have to admit that I will miss her. It has been so challenging and just like many mums craving for space but I have to admit that a huge part of me enjoyed her company. I got to know her a lot more in the midst of the changes she's experiencing and had many interesting conversations around first kiss, menstruation, death, mental health. She sure loves to talk and I've learned to listen. #motherdaughter

14.01.2022 The truth is we are juggling so much in our life and in our minds as mothers. Take time to pause even for a moment to simply breath, soak in the very moment you're in. As mothers we tend to second guess ourselves, I must admit i do. Are we doing enough, are we making the right decisions? Know that you are enough (even when it doesn't feel like it ) and that our kids aren't expecting us to be perfect (Cassy reminded me that recently. I apologised for something and she said mu...m it's ok. You aren't perfect and that is ok At times she makes more sense that I do ). They simply wish to be loved, like we do. The great thing about that is that love is expressed in many forms and most of the times it can be felt from the simplest things in life - a hug, when they feel heard, through play, laughter, sharing meals, and many more. Because life's demands can feel overwhelming, take time mamas to slow down. When I feel overwhelmed, over productive, frantic, it becomes difficult to come back to the basics of love and life. It is worth giving ourselves the time and space, even if it's only for a moment to replenish. For me a simple walk from home to my daughter's school and back helps me start my day. I then spend some time practicing yoga, moving and/or meditating then I start my work day. A simple morning ritual feels supportive for me . We've also started practicing breath work / pranayama and body scan every night for a few minutes and this has helped both of us prepare for sleep. When I'm out teaching on a Thursday, James would have to lead. A few months back Cass would teach her dad which was so cute and funny, and now James guides her. It has become a ritual that has been so helpful for our family especially now that she's going through changes and school has been overwhelming and so busy. This ritual has allowed her to feel much more settled as she eases into bed. What about you ? How do you create space to slow down especially during these times? Do you share your tools and practices with your children ? #slowdown #motherhood #yoga #family #love #meditation See more

13.01.2022 Our current global situation is challenging for many, some more than others. In times when I see myself complain about not seeing my friends, able to hug them, buy tissue paper any time I wish to (we are running out and there's no stock anywhere close to us) and the list goes on. I start to think about the people closest to me who suffer from mental illness and that being home in isolation triggers their social phobia, pregnant women who are anxious of what their birth and po...st birth would look like, or those in abusive relationships now stuck at home, our health professionals who are over worked and explosed, or those living in shanties in slum areas where social distancing isn't viable and those who earn below minimum wage driving tricycles (rickshaws) and can't provide food for family.I see this photo from last winter where we can roam free. It will happen one day.For now we can only control our actions and decisions. Practice social distancing , support local businesses as best we can, connect to our loved ones from afar as often as we can through technology that's available, explore activities we enjoy at home, if not try new activities, help others in need. Our family is returning to basics, enjoying lots of time together, figuring out a way to create space within our home as well. Connecting with friends remotely & taking lots of rest. I'm also engaged in work, focusing on supporting prenatal and post natal women & teachers as best I can through the classes I still teach at @yoganic (we will be streaming live soon) & programs at @mindfulbirth_australia. I will be going Live tomorrow via @mindfulbirth_australia Instagram and will be teaching a 20 minute gentle pregnancy yoga flow , meditation and breathing practice with a 10 minute short talk on pregnancy, birth and post natal life amidst covid pandemic. If you know anyone who's expecting please feel free to share. . . Keep well everyone! 12.01.2022 Update: Sydney Adventist Hospital updated their policy . Thanks @samanthagunndoula for sending me the link: https://www.sah.org.au//12th%20April%20Admission%20and%20T ......... When Covid 19 was starting to get serious I was deeply concerned for all expectant mummies . Pregnancy, birth and mothering comes with uncertainty , women doing the very best to manage stress and have a healthy, beautiful transition. Today's news and text discussion with my midwife friend based in... Sydney just highlighted how big of a change this year will be for mothers and babies- Sydney Adventist Hospital's updated Covid 19 policy must be heartbreaking for mothers and babies . Is it possible to consider RANZOG and WHO's recommendation not separating mothers and babies immediately and apply precautionary measures so babies have the opportunity to breastfeed and bond with mother ? According to RANZCOG's most recent statement if mummies are infected they shouldn't be automatically separated from babies . "9. Can I still breastfeed if I am diagnosed with COVID-19 infection? Women who wish to breastfeed their babies should be encouraged and supported to do so. At the moment there is no evidence that the virus is carried in breastmilk and, therefore, the well-recognised benefits of breastfeeding outweigh any potential risks of transmission of COVID-19 through breastmilk. If the mother has COVID-19 infection she should not be automatically separated from her baby, but should take enhanced precautions with general hygiene and consider a face mask when feeding." Thanks @karleengribble and @jeanbyrnephd for the share.

12.01.2022 We are excited !!!! Mindfulness for Women In 2 weeks @jeanbyrnephd and I will be launching a special course on mindfulness for women via @mindfulbirth_australia . We are so excited as this short course, created by women for women, highlights areas of women's life - understanding and embracing our bodies , women's cycle, touching on menarche to menopause, heart space practice which speaks of self compassion and that would include importance of cultivating boundaries,... and many more - mindfulness practices, reflection and journaling and integration into daily life. Our hope is that all women approach life with awareness, tenderness, be inspired to extend love towards oneself and others. . . Our quote was from an interview with @paperclipjenn . 12.01.2022 NSW Minister for Mental Health, Bronnie Taylor, has today announced the first public Mum and Baby Unit in NSW. She says: "Today we are announcing that for the f...irst time ever we are going to have a Mum and Babies Unit at RPA. It’s going to have eight beds. What it means is that a mother is able to bring her infant baby with her if she is experiencing an acute episode of her psychiatric illness. "We know that for women the time of pregnancy and that year after they’ve had their baby they’re more likely to experience a mental illness. This is the most at-risk time for them in terms of a mental illness. And what we also know is it’s so important that in those early moments and that first year of life particularly when a mother bonds with her baby. "So we know if you’re going through a really tough time in terms of your mental health and you require admission to a facility when we have this up and running by next year it means you can come here with your baby and you can be treated. You can access to the care you need. "This is the first one in NSW. This is about making sure that mothers and their families have access to the care they need. " We at COPE are thrilled to hear this news - it's something we've been advocating for for years!

09.01.2022 Santosha | Contentment Santosha, a Sanskrit word, which translates to contentment . The second Niyama (observances) of Patanjali's Eight Limbs of Yoga, one that is challenging to practice on and off the mat. When I look back at what yoga practice was like many years ago the grasping for postures, not wishing for things to change, was strong. Yoga mirrored so much of my internal struggles. I witnessed how hard I was on myself, so many thought pattern parallels on and o...ff of the mat. The state of discontent manifests in various ways- attachment to identify , what our bodies used to do , clinging to material things and relationship and list goes on. Our attachment to many things or ideas leave us feeling disconnected to the fullness of life, not content as we're always wanting more or something different. At times we end up missing the most precious people and moments in life as we are busy doing, thinking, acquiring more, doubting our enoughness . Our time on our mat allows us to explore moments of craving, observe times of attachment. It has for me . At this point in life practice has been supportive of where I am in life. My approach and understanding has shifted. If you're injured, post partum, tired, would you opt to push yourself beyond your limit for the fear of not being able to something, or losing the ability to do so? Maybe instead of pushing ourselves beyond what's nurturing for us we give ourselves permission to slow down , to meet us where we are because that in itself is enough, you are enough. Practicing being in the moment, opens us up to contentment. When we pause and breath and savour where we are in practice or life we become intimate with santosha and become closer to connecting to peace , liberation from our internal suffering. . . Join me this week as we explore Santosha/Contentment as we move, breath and meditate: Tue: Morning Flow 9:30 am / Mums & Bubs 11 am Wed: Centering Evening Flow 7:45pm Friday : Prenatal 9:30 am / Mums & Bubs 11 am At @yoganic #santosha #contentment #yoga #yogapractice #meditation #mindfulness #breath See more

08.01.2022 Menarche, pregnancy, birth, menopause aren't simply life stages , they're pivotal moments in a woman's life where we can experience significant transformation. How we approach and interact with life during these times can take us away or bring us closer to our true essence, one that goes beyond the value of external beauty, money, and status.Speak to a mother and she'll tell you how her birth and mothering has left an imprint, or a woman going through perimenopause, & she'll ...tell you about this anger she's never felt before and our young girls feeling all sorts of emotions during adolescence. If we pause and make room to observe we will find that life calls us to look deeper,to reflect, reevaluate. Seek to understand the changes that transpire during these times, make space to listen to your body, it has a way of communicating to us, always. Take time to cultivate awareness as it can support us as we navigate life's changes and challenges. In moments when it's especially more difficult , allowing ourselves to be present with it and not wishing it to go away paves a path to gentleness and understanding. Acknowledging these special life milestones as a rite of passage, a path to self knowing, can transform us deeply. We can learn how to honour ourselves, live a life that speaks our truth, one that is authentically ours.It is a gift which carries immense power. . . I'm in creation mode and feeling inspired. So much has changed in the last 6 months! @Jeanbyrnephd and I will be working together for @mindfulbirthaustralia creating workshops and mini courses around the sacred feminine. I'm also creating tweens / teens course for my baby @inspiredgirls_australia which will help change not only the lives of our teens but impact teen mothers living in underprivrlaged communities. 08.01.2022 Growth space... I recently wrote a paper for my Developmental Pyschology unit on Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory in relation to children's behaviour particularly around Zone of Proximal Development. It is concept that refers to the difference between a learner's ability to perform a task independently versus with guidance. ZPD has been integrated into school systems for learning but it can also be observed in many aspects of life. For example , when teaching your child h...Continue reading

07.01.2022 Leaning to say no is part of self care ... I'm currently preparing for an audio recording that will be part of our @mindfulbirth_australia Mindfulness Course for Women with @jeanbyrnephd and the topic revolves around learning to say no. Part of self care is having clear boundaries. Saying no or not today is integral in our wellbeing as women. I was raised at a time when obedience was equated to being good and having a strong opinion wasn't welcome , and connecting to ...what feels authentic to me whilst finding my voice was something that I had to figure out on my own together with the help of varied life experience , mindfulness practices and the mentors, psychologist, and friends that have guided me along the way. As we traverse the rhythms of our lives as women our needs , responsibilities, our hopes and dreams changes and at times we find that we need to say not for now , or a clear no to people ,situations or things that no longer serve us. It takes time, deep reflection , a gentle approach, and insight to the future we wish to create for ourselves and our families can help us shift from a yes I can do it all, to , maybe not today. This creates space for us to be present for the people, opportunities, work , things that we love . . . It seems simple yet complex as we live very textured lives . This is why the practice of awareness and self compassion go hand in hand as we explore mindful living for women . #learntosayno #healthyboundaries #mindfulness #wellbeing #mindfulbirth #sefcare @spoonie_village

06.01.2022 Oxytocin, and Trust I'm fascinated with anything to do with the hormone Oxytocin and its role in relationships, birth and post birth life. I came across this article from Google's reWork page on Trust and the role of Oxytocin, High Performance Culture in organisations . " Here’s the good news: trust can be measured. When we are trusted by others, our brains release a chemical called oxytocin. Oxytocin activates a brain network that says, "Let's work together to get this d...one." But, measuring oxytocin directly involves blood draws not something most businesses want to subject their employees to (though a number of brave businesses did let me do this). Organizations need an easier way to quantify trust, and after measuring activity of the brain's cooperation network multiple ways in my laboratory and conducting field experiments that took me from factory floors to the rainforest of Papua New Guinea, I developed a survey that measures the eight components of organizational trust that cause colleagues' brains to produce oxytocin. Conveniently, these eight building blocks of organizational trust can be remembered using the acronym OXYTOCIN... 06.01.2022 I just taught prenatal and post natal yoga live at @yoganic ! We focused on breath , softening , de-stressing and taught progressive muscle tension and release leading up to yoga nidra and relaxation . Rest is not overrated , it is needed. As we take a conscious break and pause from our doing, thought and stress cycle, we make room to receive and heal. #rest #yoganidra #relaxation #yoga #prenatalyoga #postnatalyoga

05.01.2022 Surviving this crisis will take a shift in mindset, and that’s tougher than we think - especially when we’re afraid. Fear and anxiety can drive us to become ve...ry self-focused. This global pandemic is a real case of getting sick together or staying well together. Our choices affect everyone around us. There is no such thing as individual risk or individual wellness. This is the ultimate reminder that we are inextricably connected to each other. Turning away from collective action right now - as tempting as it is - will only generate more pain. Owning and embracing our global interconnectedness (from a safe distance) and thinking about others as we make choices is, ironically, our only path to safety for ourselves and the people we love. We can all get really shitty really fast when we’re afraid. I get it. I’m using deep breaths along with my personal mantra: Try to be scared without being scary. Feel free to borrow both - they can help. It’s also really normal for everyone to be on our nerves: The people who aren’t following the rules, the 10-second hand washers, etc. I get that too. TRUST ME. But, like it or not, we just can’t give up on people. We’re all we have. Stay awkward, brave, and kind. Love each other. Spread calm. xo, BB

05.01.2022 When I found this list in 2016 I bought majority of these books because I wanted to educate my daughter about diversity at a very young age and I wanted her to see images of children that look like her. I must admit we found very little Asian looking story characters . As she grew up our stories came to life , some of her questions were challenging to answer at times . . . Children’s books can act like both mirrors and windows on the world. Mirrors in that they can reflect... on children’s own lives, and windows in that they can give children a chance to learn about someone else’s life. We also know that this type of self-reflection and opportunity to read or hear about different lives is essential for young people and their future. . . If you're looking for books @booksfordiversity is a lovely one I refer to. I also love @thetinyactivists. Here's the list I found many years ago : https://www.imagineforest.com//one-world-week-childrens-b/ #books #reading See more

04.01.2022 Steadiness... Do you know that steadiness may come from the cultivation of patience, calmness and gentle openness? 04.01.2022 "Listen to silence it has so much to say," Rumi . . When was the last time you took time to turn inward? Practice with me tonight (Wed) 745pm @yoganic for a balanced juicy flow, nadhi shodhana breathing exercise, mini restorative practice and meditation . #yogapractice #sydneyyoga #vinyasa #meditation #restorative #breath #yoga

04.01.2022 Stress relief for the young ones.... . I have been guiding my little lady through a body scan / yoga nidra every night as part of our bedtime routine . She loves it as it helps her relax. Prior to starting this ritual it would take her long time to settle. . . Our children's mind can get busy with many changes happening within and around them.... A few month back we were walking in the park watching ducks in the pond and she said that she could relate to the ducks. You know how they busily paddle , but looks calm on the outside . She says she feels like a duck calm on the outside , busy on the inside. So after a nice talk about what's keeping her mind busy we started this new ritual. I'd lay in bed with her and guide her through a practice that helps sooth the body and mind. I do it for my yoga students and practice myself , I'm more than happy to share it with her . Night time routine has been peaceful and relaxing for her. One that she can continue practicing all her life. . . Last Wednesday night while I was teaching my evening class she was the one who actually taught her dad a breathing exercise . So funny and heartwarming #yoganidra #motherhood #breath #stressrelief #motherdaugther #love #mentalhealth #wellbeing See more

03.01.2022 W H Y ? Such an important question to ask . When I fell pregnant yoga practice changed and it did post natally too. I had to make changes to accommodate the changes in my body. It was a way of honouring this wonderous shift which is the growth and birth of baby. The beautiful thing about yoga is that the postures can be approached in various ways, it accommodates change. I still see many practice"advanced postures" whilst in their 3rd trimester and I'm often asked what I t...hink about it. I always come back to basics by asking the question "Why". Why do we practice postures? Are we afraid that we may no longer be able to do it? Does it feel good or not but still pushing through it? Are we following someone else's instructions or advise? I know it is cliche, but everyone body's different, & what we see in someone elses' practice may not be right for us. I encourage women to reflect, educate and adapt practice so it nurtures you -both body and mind. There is not much space here to discuss the various physiological changes in women's bodies & psychological shifts during pre and post natal period but I will be posting talks and pactice videos on @mindfulbirth_australia in the next few days. 03.01.2022 Working from home? How are you all doing working from home ? I have great and not so great days just like many . I try my best to get dressed for the day and wear my comfy jumper as it is currently cold and wet over here. A routine has helped me balance work , studying , teaching and family life! Getting on my mat for yoga movement, breath and meditation keeps me grounded. I also needed to establish a clean break from work and take time for myself and family cause I can go on and on, and next thing you know it's 10 pm! I'm interested to know what has worked for you as you work for home ? What are your biggest distractions? #workingfromhome
