20.01.2022 Summer is the season of the fire element! . According to Ayurveda we contain a unique combination of each of the five great elements in varying balance. During our hot, dry, light summer we need to take care not to over-encourage ... Fire is needed for motivation and digestion so we can pursue creatively with strength and vigour. But here are some Ayurvedic tips to temper your fire so you don’t burn out: - moderate both pungent and sour foods (such as ginger, pepper, vinegar and lemon) - add cooling foods and spices (such as quality coconut products, cucumber, mint and coriander seeds) - replace lemon with limes - replace or compliment your Vinyasa practice with a gentle restorative or Yin practice Ayurveda recognises us as unique and constantly changing dependant upon: the seasons, the time of day, your stage of life and your life experiences. Understanding the balance of energies of the elements is the key to avoiding disease and being the greatest life force possible. Above all, Ayurveda encourages you to listen to your body. 19.01.2022 The moment I shat my pants... sung out of tune and played out of time in front of 20 students and esteemed colleagues... . But fuck it. I gave it a go. And eventually found a rhythm in the Kirtan dedicated to Shiva for our new yoga teachers that have had to dig so deep this year to complete their own transformation. . Shiva is known as the Yogi among the gods of Yogic and Hindu tradition.... . Often seen in meditation with his third eye open, his symbol offers us inspiration on the journey in connecting with divine and inner wisdom while embodying this material life. . The dance of Shiva is one that initiates chaos and destruction of order to wipe the slate clean to bring about change and re-birth. We can call on Shiva to inspire us to initiate change and rebirth: transforming our physical, mental and emotional patterns and attachments holding us back from new realms of possibilities. . Does chaos and destruction feel good? Um no. But know this - your re-birth requires these moments of uncertainty, pain and grief in order to transform. Albeit hard. Congratulations to the class of 2020! What a year. Well done for all of your effort in showing up to the dance graceful or otherwise!
