25.01.2022 What people think yoga / being a yogi is about: Becoming sahhh flexible. Owning 10 x Lulu lemon sets Practising Handstands 400 times a class cos #advanced.... Drinking kombucha, talking ONLY about your connection to the divine #pure and listening to Krishna Das as you sit surrounded by incense sticks and candles. What yoga/ being a yogi is actually about: Flexibility in the mind and the body. Giving zero fks about what you wear because you know you’re not defined by what you look like or the brands you wear. Attempting handstands cos fun and good lols. Knowing that JOY is #advanced. Never drinking that weird vinegar drink (guys, it’s not beer. C’mon now), expressing yourself in anyway you bloody well like (my preference is saying Fk alot) and being exactly who you are unapologetically whether your listening to Eminem, watching Netflix or dancing to good ol Krishna D. Well according to me and The Collab anyway Resonate? (You’re not a yogi without using this word 8000 times a day either, okay?) Sweet. Our 4 weeks ‘Empowered Practice’ beginners/ refinement course starts tomorrow (Thursday)at 7.45pm. See you there?

23.01.2022 We’re loving the buzz of energy Spring has brought into the studio it amazes me every year how influential the seasons truly are on us. That nature has so much to teach us when it comes to riding each phase, cycle and experience of life. Showing us that no matter what each one represents, it’s never final. Life will always naturally guide us along the path and into the next, whether we actively take part or not If you’re feeling the surge of Spring energy, and are ready to... use it. Join us in one of our many weekly Vinyasa practices. Our Vinyasa classes are flow based practices where each breath is linked with a movement. You can think of it like a moving meditation. Each class has a physical focus to strengthen and open your body, a breath focus to calm your mind and a spiritual focus to connect back to who you truly are underneath all your batshit crazy thoughts. Bookings via link in bio, we’d love to see you there

19.01.2022 Join Helen on Sunday October 25th, for an intimate Spring day retreat Swap your phone, life admin and responsiblities for a full day of deeply restoring yoga practices, delicious home cooked food (that you don’t have to cook!) and legendary company. Upon arriving at The Collab’s yogic bubble we will start the day in circle, discussing and soaking up the philosophical theme for your day. We will then move onto an energising Vinyasa practice, inspired by the theme of Spring. ...You can expect a cleansing flow that’ll clear out any stagnant winter energy, making space for this brand new uplifting season. Come lunchtime we will venture moments down the road for a home cooked spread on a private roof deck, overlooking the ocean. We’ll fill our bellies, catch some rays and maybe have a cheeky ocean dip. Returning to the studio for a blended practice of Yin & Restorative. Guiding you into a deeply restored state as you float into the final part of the day; Yoga Nidra. The space will be safe, held and supported. Allowing you to fully unwind and receive the healing benefits of the yoga practice, nature and being in community. Sigh. Dreamy. 17.01.2022 Not just a Yoga studio We Connect We Inspire We Heal

17.01.2022 MEET THE COLLABORATORS ~ next up is @siobhan_____ ( the last question) How long have you been a Collab member? I have been a member for two years (it has been my longest commitment to any membership) I usually have a 2-3 month stint and then it just doesn’t excite me anymore. ... What made you take the leap and start your membership? I was coming out the other side of a few toxic situations. Extremely anxious, lost, unsettled and just not excited about life or anything. I was walking past the studio one Saturday morning and saw a group of ladies just finished yoga chatting, laughing and they all looked like they had a glow about them. I just felt call to book a class and I did my first class that Sunday evening. (I never looked back) We all know the benefits of a regular yoga practice, but what is something unexpected that you've gotten out of being a member? The friendships, workshops and just being part of a beautiful likeminded community. It is such so special that not one other yoga studio I have been to has had that support. Each member/teacher is just as beautiful, approachable and special as the next. Describe The Collaborative in one word/sentence. Heaven on earth If you could give advice to someone thinking about joining the Collab, what would it be? Stop procrastinating, bite the bullet and just come !! You will never look back. You will be blown away how comfortable you will feel and how welcomed you are with open arms by everyone ! What has been your biggest achievement since joining The Collaborative? I don’t take sleeping medication anymore (thank you yoga nidra) or anti-anxiety medication. I have a new outlook on life, life doesn’t scare me it excites me. I am no longer scared of being alone with my own thoughts. That is now the most exciting part of my day! I have made new friends and am putting my health and well-being first! This is Siobhan or last weekends retreat find out more about becoming a member via link in bio #thecollaborativemaroubra

17.01.2022 On December 20th, 11am -3pm you’re invited to a very special 4 hour group immersion. Think: moving all the twenty twenny shiz outta your body. We will be preparing our bodies for the energetic upgrade of December 21 2020 (don’t know it? get to know it, it’s huge). Over 4 captivating hours Helen is going to take you on a journey out of your head, down into your body. You don’t need to think, plan or get into the mind stuff. No, no note books will be needed.... This is going to be a reunion with the insanely wise vessel called your human body. Where we get out of our own way and trust forces way bigger than us. (Hello universe) You will be invited to partake in practices such as Vinyasa yoga, breath work and other potent ancient practices to release pent up/ old energy from your body. (all will be revealed on the day.) Most excitingly, you’ll also experience Helen’s very first group Sound healing. Using the sounds of Crystal singing bowls, her melodic voice and the power of music your body will be exposed to deep, deep healing. As the vibration permeates your entire being. (oufff i’ve got gooseys writing this!!) The space will be safe, you will be supported, held and immersed in the incredible Collab community. It’ll include a delish lunch (that you don’t have to cook!) home brewed tea and lots of TLC. Some Yoga experience is essential ( you don’t need to be a pro, just have a practice of some sorts), come exactly as you are and let us take care of you. Seriously. This isn't for some other person for some other time. This is for you. The you that wants to leave 2020 feeling powerful, not powerless. Who is ready to uplevel, thrive and energetically raise their game. This is for you my friend, this is for you 4 spaces left. Full deets https://www.thecollaborativemaroubra.com//christmas-calm-d

16.01.2022 When practising at The Collab we like to remind you, often, that you are always in charge of your body and your whole experience in class. Whist we will encourage and invite you to stretch yourself, be challenged and see what you are capable of on all levels, it is just that: an invitation. You can opt in or out of any shapes, variations or practices at anytime. Choosing to rest, take a different pose or just try something totally different. ... There have been so many times that I as a teacher / studio owner (aka confident, knowing my body & practice) that I’ve walked into yoga classes and felt very much like I’m now under the teachers orders. Under pressure to move at their pace, not mine. Attempt poses that they tell me to, rather than encouraged to do what feels right and powerful for me. That my power feels like it suddenly rests in their hands, rather than where it belongs. In my own. So I wanted to drop in and remind you to only put yourself in environments that make you feel powerful af. You are always in charge. Always. It’s your body and therefore it is always your choice. Got it? Sweet

16.01.2022 Last week I received an email from someone telling me they were looking to build and be part of a community. If I had a $1 for every time I hear this, I would honestly be a multi trillion air. The longing to be ‘in’ community,(no not sat on instagram peaking in from the sidelines) is everywhere.... It comes from every kind of person, there is no type. There is no ‘oh she looks popular and has loads of mates, defo doesn’t want more community’. Everyone is seeking more in person connection. Everyone. Because lets be honest you can never be too supported, to connected and experience too much belonging. No, that’s no ones issue right now. But what I wanna know is, what are you doing about it? Are you putting yourself out there? Are showing upto those events, classes or gatherings? Are you asking that person for a coffee, sending the text or getting through the awkward first half of the convo? because nothing changes if nothing changes. So if you are waiting for your dream community to come round your house, knock on your door and become your instant BFF. You’re gonna be waiting a while. So here is your reminder to get out from behind your screen and CREATE connection. You don’t need to wait for anyone else, you are powerful AF and people want to meet you, hear from you and be part of your circle but it won’t happen whilst your sat by yourself on the gram. Seriously. Take it from a girl who moved and opened a business across the other side of the world, where she knew about 5 people. Whether you wanna extend your business network, have a mate on speed dial for a vino or simply walk down the street where you live and know people. It is all out there waiting for you to truly step up and show up

15.01.2022 True yoga is not about the shape of your body, but the shape of your life. Yoga is not to be performed; yoga is to be lived. Yoga doesn’t care about what you have been; yoga cares about the person you are becoming.... Yoga is designed for a vast and profound purpose, and for it to be truly called yoga, its essence must be embodied. ~ Aadil Palkhivala

13.01.2022 A note on self leadership & self liberation, aka the yoga practice I like to remind myself during times of change (heyooo 2020) regardless of what is happening on the outside. I get to decide what happens on the inside, with what I do. That whilst I can sit here and say that that person causes division, that thing causes suffering, that the world is destined for doom.... I always, and I mean always, get to decide what I am creating. Because whether I like it or not I am always creating something. That I can choose to wait for someone to be elected, a law to be passed or for people to value XY or Z or I can be that person. I can show up as the example of the things I say matter. I can choose to walk my talk. I can be the leader of my own life, that ultimately influences life itself. That If I’m concerned about division, I have to ask myself very honestly whether I am creating it myself? If I believe something should be valued or causes supported, am I truly valuing and supporting them with my actions, not just my words? Am I truly ‘being’ about what I am speaking about? (In the words of @stevie_and_tay) This what the yoga practice is all about. Self liberation, freedom and leadership. Focusing on what you can do, not waiting or delegating that power to anyone or anything else. Reclaiming that power within. So I extend this question to you in the midst of elections and NAIDOC week. Where can you lead? Where can you show up in your own life as the example? Where can you be about what you speak about? Because whilst we can debate the importance of having great leaders elected and great laws passed (of which I agree) there are billions of people walking this planet. What if we were the ones we were waiting for?

13.01.2022 Three spaces remain for our summer weekend retreat ~ 4 days, 3 nights in a blissful yogic bubble. Joy. Here's a sneak peak at the rooms available

11.01.2022 How I intend on leaving twenny twenny: Strutting to the sound of Hip Hop, champagne in hand and feeling like a boss Yup, I intend on leaving this transformational year having picked up and soaked in all of the inner evolution it’s had to offer. How about you?... Have you carved out space to reflect, digest and consciously decide what you’re taking into 2021? (Tip, it won’t happen unless you plan it.)I know there is a huge part of us that wants to sprint outta this year, shot of tequila in hand screaming GET ME OUTTA HERE. Lol, same. However a change of date ain’t gonna do much on its own (soz), it’s what we decide to bring into it that makes it matter or mean anything. We get to decide whether we’re gonna stroll into 2021 feeling empowered, transformed, with all of the juice from this wild fking year in tow. Or whether we’re dragging our feet, weighed down by a bunch of heavy unconscious sh*t, unsure of what the hell just happened and feeling like we’ve aged a 1000 and 50 years. It’s all on us baby. So what you gonna choose? I’m offering a Christmas calm day retreat on December 20th, its for everyone and anyone who wants to leave this year feeling fresh and forever changed. Giving you space to Indulge in 4 hours of slow flow, deeply relaxing restorative yoga, home cooked food and best of all time to reflect and digest the transformational year of twenny twenny Deets & bookings: https://www.thecollaborativemaroubra.com//christmas-calm-d

10.01.2022 Questions for conflict ~ I sent this note out to my daily(ish) email list last week. Since, I’ve received so many replies and forwarded it to even more people who are experiencing conflict big and small. So, as the end of year approaches and boundaries are tested. I wanted to share it with you ‘A student came to me for advice the other day. She had had a disagreement with someone at work and was unsure what to do about it. Her pattern, she told me, was to avoid conflict and ...just go along with the other person. However on this particular occasion the conflict was over something that was dear to her, and she wanted to question her pattern, seeking advice on what was the 'right' move. In her own words ' maybe it's not that big of a deal', 'maybe i'm being over the top', 'what do you think Helen'? I almost went to give my opinion, when i realized my opinion was irrelevant. It was hers that mattered. I remembered a few lines from a poem i love, it's really supported me in moments like this because lets be honest. Don't we all find ourselves in moments like this weekly, if not daily? Where we tune out of our own feelings, and tune into the approval of others. You know this spot, right? I thought so. So i wanna share with you, what i shared with her: Can you disappoint another to be true to yourself. Can you bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. The question isn't whether it is or isn't a big deal or whether you're right or wrong. The question is what is what does it mean to you, what feels in alignment with your own truth? and yes, sometimes that is a small as saying 'no i don't want to eat that', or 'yes, that thing that everyone else thinks is stupid, is really important to me'. We don't always need to explain why. Instead can we be okay with disappointing others in order to stay true to ourselves? Can we bear the accusation of betrayal, but never betray our own souls? Can we separate our truth from our ego? Can we look within, rather then seeking approval without? I'll leave that one in the trusted hands of your heart’ Hells xo. Wanna receive more of this? 09.01.2022 CREATING YOUR COMMUNITY ~ It’s no secret that over everything The Collab is a community. When you join us, you don’t just get transformational yoga, events and retreats. You gain a whole pack of cheerleaders who have got you back until forevs. We all want more of this. So, how do we do it?How do we build and find communities to thrive in? That celebrate us, see us and lift us higher.... Well, here are 4 key things that I’ve learnt from building my community in a brand new country, city and town: 1. SHOW UP. As much as you can build relationships online, it’s still behind a device. Social Media is sneaky like that, It can make us feel like we are fully connected when in reailty we are at home, often alone, sat behind a screen. So remember, nothing compares to in person connection. You soul needs to be with real people! So book the class, go on the retreat, join the event. Show up. Even when you want to cancel, even when you’re not sure what tf you’re gonna talk about, even when its so much easier to just stay home. Keep showing up. 2. MOVE THROUGH THE AWKWARDNESS. Yup, it’s awkward. Meeting new people, finding common interests, talking over each other by accident #nerves. This doesn’t change lol, everyone who met anyone had to go through this phase. So move through it, don’t let it put you off, make you believe that it means anything about you or them. The sweetness exists on the otherside of the #awks first few chats. 3. TRUST HOW YOU FEEL. There are so many communities I’ve thought I wanted to be part of. They looked so great online, they look so happy and well.Yet in reality their energy didn’t make me feel safe, celebrated or like I could really be myself. So trust how peoples energy makes you feel. Find the places that make you feel lit up 4. WE NEED YOU. There are times we all make ourselves believe that no one would miss our presence. Questioning what we have to offer, does anyone really care whether we’re around. And the answer is YES. There are rooms that deeply need your words, your energy, everything you have to share from your unique ‘only ever gonna be one you’ life experience. So don’t deprive us, we need you Your community awaits

09.01.2022 Friday mornings are for ocean dips, strong coffees and good chats

06.01.2022 I wrote this whilst sat next to Neils ICU bed in 2016. I’d heard ‘ just focus on the breath’ 7 million times up until then but it was at that point I finally got it. Amongst all of the chaos during that time, the breath = life to me, despite how dire the rest of the situation felt. When everyone else wanted to talk about the future, different eventualities, all I thought was. He’s breathing. Anything is possible and it’s right now, its all that matters. So I would just sit t...here in hospital watching him breathe and when I went home and missing him felt like my new occupation, I would close my eyes and breathe, thinking about him breathing at exactly the same time, it made me feel so close to him. I remember reading this out in class once, and months later a lady wrote to me about it. She told me that she had been experiencing depression, taking medication and feeling like her head was just above water. When she heard the poem a penny dropped, she rushed home after class and announced to her boyfriend. EVERY SINGLE TIME I BREATHE, I’M CHOOSING TO LIVE. IM COMMITTING TO BEING ALIVE!!! Something inside of her just clicked, and from then on her breath became her medicine so to speak. I remember thinking her BF must have thought she’d just been indoctrinated into some sort of breath cult lols. So, as I go through old photos today I wanted to re-share this for anyone who needs to hear it, feel it and remember it. Everytime you breathe, you are choosing life Xo
