23.01.2022 #Pratyahara or the 'withdrawal of the senses' is the fifth element among the Eight stages of Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga. I’ve just allowed myself to focus inward, withdrawing my senses and finding that deep, floating, vibrating, detachment of meditation. I like the notion of pratyahara as it is something you can practice at anywhere, anytime. If you’re working a desk job, sitting back in your chair for 1-2mins, close your eyes, focus on the feeling of your breath, perhaps listening to the air conditioner or something gently constant that has no real meaning to you. And quite quickly you will feel this withdrawal from the outside world. And by giving yourself this space, a rejuvenating experience, a rise in your vibration can occur and you can feel so much improved so quickly. Have a play

21.01.2022 #Yoga means ‘union’ or ‘connection’. In Sanskrit, the word ‘yoga’ is used to signify any form of connection. With #asana (posture) practice, we unite breath and movement

17.01.2022 Sthira is a Sanskrit word that may be translated as steadiness or strength. In terms of etymology, it comes from the root word, stha, which means to stand or to be firm. As such, it also has connotations of resolution, courage and firmness. For me, I know that any ease and lightness I feel comes from a deep, steady foundation built. The two go hand in hand. Stay tuned for sthira’s other half, sukha
17.01.2022 With each new week comes opportunity to reset or re-establish habits that serve you. 15.01.2022 Pranayama is the conscious awareness of breath: the lifeforce that both energizes and relaxes the body. The term is derived from the Sanskrit, prana, meaning "life force," and ayama, meaning "extension." We all breathe....and it is totally natural that we go in and out of awareness around how absolutely incredible it is that our bodies just know what to do! To tap into the observation of what is happening and even direct breath in certain ways using techniques is highly engaging and brings and presence and ENERGY, (vital energy, life force) to our entire beings!

12.01.2022 Sukha is a Sanskrit word which can be translated as happiness, ease or bliss. Its literal translation is often given as good space, coming from the Sanskrit words, su (good) and kha (space). In yoga practice, the balance of sthira (see previous post) with sukha is the aim. You need the steadiness and support of sthira to feel and enjoy the lightness and flow of sukha! Think of your warrior poses....strong foundation, steady, supportive and yet the upper body allows an airiness and fluidity to be felt but only when the base is solid. The lessons of sthira and sukha can be felt and observed alllll the time in day to day life. One requires groundedness in order to feel freedom! Strength in ones self to not care what people think...a sense of deep security to let go of outcomes! The perfect balance

06.01.2022 Hello there! For those who are new to Yoku Yoga and are just joining our yoga family, I thought I’d share a little about me...Your teacher and creator of Yoku Yoga ~ I’m Alex I started my yoga practice with great hesitation at the end of 2013. I was very nervous about it all and not confident I could even do it as I had been suffering with a chronic back problem for 14 years. I had no flexibility, couldn’t touch my knees when standing up.
