24.01.2022 Mrs Timms 5/6 class have been using their comprehension strategies as part of their work on NAIDOC week.
24.01.2022 April and Jacynta came to show Ms Bester the work they have been doing in computer graphics with Mr Walsh. They have been working on Raster Graphics where they started with a background and then added to that using cropping techniques and blending to create their finished products.
23.01.2022 Our Grade 9-10 Fitness class visited Hellyer College yesterday to take on their Rock Wall. Thank you to Murray Ferguson for allowing us the opportunity.
23.01.2022 Mrs Bird read Cooee Mittigar to our 4/5 class today to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day. Students worked in pairs to make meaning from the text using their reading comprehension skills.
22.01.2022 Today in our Pre-Kinder session our children put on their gardening gloves to do some gardening. They put potting mix in a pot and added sunflower seeds. They spoke about how water and lights make the seeds grow. Children wondered if their seed would grow by next week?

22.01.2022 Last week the Grade 5-6 class were involved in a very successful cooking activity. They have been learning about the process of farming salmon in Tasmania. They were tasked with finding and cooking an easy, healthy and delicious meal including salmon as the star. What an awesome effort by a talented group of young chefs!
20.01.2022 Kinders singing their letter songs. We have been learning so much about the look and sound of our letters. Mr Mercer and Shine are very proud.

17.01.2022 Grade 7 Foods class made fried rice today. We had a focus on the transition and cooking processes of the ingredients we used. Success all round!
16.01.2022 The smell from the cooking room this afternoon wafting down the corridor took our nostrils on a journey to Japan. Year 9/10 foods were mixing marinades, searing chicken, cooking rice and looking tentatively at seaweed.
16.01.2022 Hellyer College Enrolment Sessions Kaye Mitchell from Hellyer College will be running a parent information/enrolment afternoon on Tuesday September 8 from 2:15pm 4:30pm at Yolla District School. Parents are invited to contact the school office to organise a time to speak with Kaye about their childs enrolment choices.
16.01.2022 Were in! The new space for our Vet students is ready. This space will be used for messy jobs, direct teaching, visiting schools and grooming. Many thanks to Paul M and Paul C for getting us there.
14.01.2022 In Prep we looked at the book Little Birds Day. We used lots of questioning and discussion through the book. Words such as roost, warble and dusk intrigued the Preps and prompted lots of discussion. The children drew a picture about the story and included an action word from the story. Beautiful pictures, colours and words were created.
11.01.2022 Our Tiny Taters children enjoyed both indoor and outdoor play this week. We welcomed our tiniest Tater Blossom to her first playgroup.
11.01.2022 Ms Bester went to visit Early Childhood STEM class this afternoon. The students were very busy with Mr Mercer creating their own movies; with Mrs Pinner designing and constructing roller coasters and with Ms Mack and Shine building and then battling their robots. Students were able to explain their designs and the process they were going through to complete their constructions.
10.01.2022 In Year 7 Science with Ms LKJ students made copper sulfate crystals. They were amazed by their results.
10.01.2022 School Satisfaction Survey Annual School Satisfaction Surveys for parents and staff are being conducted during August 2020 across Tasmanian government schools. The surveys provide an opportunity for parents and staff to give important feedback on what the school does well and where we can improve. Questions cover a range of topics about our school. 10.01.2022 What a fun time we had today on our excursion to the Rotary playground at Wynyard. Our Tiny Taters and Kinder children enjoyed spending time together exploring all of the playground equipment.
09.01.2022 In Mrs Hollands Year 9 MyEd class today students were given set ingredients and had to be entrepreneurial in designing biscuits that would win a challenge of covering the criteria of taste, texture and presentation. Ms Bester was very impressed to be invited in to taste test some of the products before voting.
09.01.2022 Tiny Taters children had a visit from our Year 11/12 animal studies girls who brought the 8 week old rabbits in for a pat.
08.01.2022 The kinder students were lucky enough to have a visit from the grade 7 class today. They assisted us in creating window Christmas decorations. The kinders had lots of fun working with our big people.

08.01.2022 Izzy, Starr, Dylan and Robert competed at the Twilight carnival in Penguin last night. They all demonstrated great courage and strength to complete their tough events. Izzy, Dylan and Robert set a beautiful pace and finished with a solid sprint in the tough 1500m distance. Starr found the strength to sprint to the end of the 400m race with style. Well done guys, an awesome effort and superb demonstration of sportsmanship and courage.

05.01.2022 Kinder-2 STEM class. Students are working on ball roller coasters, stop motion movies and battle bots.
05.01.2022 The Grade 9 and 10 My Ed classes were involved in a fantastic full day Forestry experience run by Arbre Forestry Industries. The session focused on forests, sustainability, ecosystems, food webs and careers in the forest industry. The field experience focused on exploring a diverse range of career pathways across the processing site. Students engaged in a logging simulator experience and made a handy tool box. Students demonstrated a high level of motivation, interest and passion for new knowledge. Special thanks To Darcy Vickers from Forest Education Foundation for allowing us to experience a new industry and links for future employment.

04.01.2022 In Kinder our children are working with Mr Mercer on the Zones of Regulation that focuses on self-regulation and emotional control. Children are putting feelings to emotions using the 4 zones.

04.01.2022 Our grade 9/10s had a unique experience with Guy Chalky Grey yesterday. Guy is an Indigenous educational leader in our area. He tells the story of the Aboriginal culture with ceremony, artefacts and stories.
04.01.2022 This morning at Tiny Taters we were fortunate to have Jenny Brooks our Early Years Network Leader visit us to help distribute our Bouncing Back into Learning Bags. Jane Bird our LIFT co-ordinator also joined us. Each child received a bag of educational activities including a book, puzzle, play dough and ideas on activities to do at home with your child.
04.01.2022 Kinders having their first art lesson with Miss LKJ today. They read the book Cat and the Bird , a childrens book inspired by the artist Paul Klee. They then did watercolour paintings of cats and birds.
03.01.2022 Today our Kinder children received their Bouncing Back into Learning - Talk, Play and Read bags. These bags were given to all kindergarten students to support learning at home. Each bag contained a variety of activities designed to engage children in conversation to enhance their oral communication skills. As part of our LIFT program we added additional materials to each bag.

01.01.2022 For NAIDOC week the students in Kinder explored the story of The Echidna and the Shade Tree. It told the story of how echidnas got their spikes. Students also explored how Indigenous people used symbols to communicate.
01.01.2022 Ms Bester visited Mr Mercers 5/6 Science class this afternoon who were working in the science lab. Students were working on individual inquiry projects where they were conducting various experiments to prove their hypothesis.
