22.01.2022 Police say that two men who came to Nhulunbuy on Tuesday lied about visiting Sydney. Police found out and took those two to Darwin. Doctors tested them. Yolu don’t have to worry: their tests say they do not have coronavirus. This means these men did not bring coronavirus into Arnhem Land. ... The men will get a fine or might go to jail. They broke a new law by the NT Government. This law is: anyone who comes to the NT will tell police if they have been to Melbourne or Sydney in the past two weeks. If they have, police will take them to stay in quarantine in Darwin for two weeks, to stop them spreading coronavirus in case they are sick. The Government made this law because lots of people in Melbourne and Sydney are getting sick from coronavirus. Every day this week, two or more people in Melbourne died from coronavirus. People are getting sick in Sydney too and spreading it around. This story tells us that we need to be very careful, coronavirus is not finished and it might come to Darwin or Arnhem Land. To stay safe, Yolu need to put up our own barriers. We can do this by following a physical distancing pathway: We will stand or sit 1.5m from anyone we don’t live with We will not shake hands or touch hands with anyone we don’t live with. We will also wash our hands with soap often. And if you feel sick, like this: Fever, chills or sweating Sore throat Dry cough Runny nose Shortness of breath call up the clinic. Do not go there, because if you are sick, you might make the clinic workers sick. Just call them up first, and they will tell you what to do. Ma’ we will bring you more news when we hear it.

20.01.2022 Coronavirus News Update July 3: A person who travelled from Melbourne to Darwin has coronavirus. Doctors have not found anyone sick with coronavirus in the NT since Easter. This man is the first one with coronavirus in the NT for two months. ... The man came to Darwin from Melbourne on Monday. He was overseas before he was in Melbourne. He felt sick when he arrived in Darwin, and called doctors to get a coronavirus test. The test shows the man has coronavirus. He is now in quarantine at Royal Darwin Hospital, away from other people. Doctors are trying to find the people who were on the plane with the man. They will test those people for coronavirus too, maybe they got sick from this man. Lots of people in Melbourne are still getting sick from coronavirus. Yesterday, doctors found about 80 new people with coronavirus in Melbourne. There are some suburbs in Melbourne where some people are spreading coronavirus to other people. They call these places coronavirus ‘hotspots’. This man was visiting a hotspot before he flew to Darwin. The NT Government has a law about these hotspots. If a person who has been in a hotspot travels to Darwin, they will stay in quarantine for two weeks, away from other people. They will stay in a hotel in Darwin, Palmerston, Litchfield, Katherine, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek or Nhulunbuy. Police will be at the airports and on highways asking people where they are coming from. If they have been in a hotspot, police will make them quarantine. This story tells us that we need to be very careful, this coronavirus is not finished and it might come to Darwin or Arnhem Land. Someone in Melbourne or another city might be sick, fly to Darwin, and spread that virus to other people. Then one of those people might fly to Nhulunbuy, and bring the virus to Arnhem Land. If they get sick they can’t do their jobs, and they will worry about giving that sickness to other people. So just call them up first, and they will tell you what to do. Ma' - we will bring you more story (in language) soon.
